Prince had something to prove here. He was ticked off that he wasn't on Rolling Stone's List of Greatest Guitarists of All Time. Needless-to-say, he was after this performance
I call it the two birds one stone😂🎸🎸🎸
I'm a 53yrs old metal head and I've always thought Prince was one of the best electric guitar players. Not just guitar either. He literally can play ever instrument. Just a pure artist!! He did show everyone he deserved to be on that list but he had nothing to prove.
@shawnsford7071 total virtuoso. there are a very few people this supernaturally talented, in every aspect of music production. John Paul Jones is the only other dude I can think of who is an exceptional musician and plays about 14 different instruments at master level. I know what Prince was capable of, so when I first saw this show when it originally debuted, I lost my MIND when I figured out that they were probably gonna give him the closing solo. I'm SO glad they did. All legends on the stage, but he's clearly the one who would have done it proper justice. um...yeah. nailed it. LOL 🤘🏼🤩
I'll tell you some stories about this piece of art:
- The song was in The Beatles (AKA The White Album) by The Beatles, George Harrison wrote it (his son Danny is playing an acoustic guitar)
- The bearded one is Jeff Lynne from ELO = The Electric Light Orchestra
- The man with the white hair is Tom Petty, he was friends with Prince
Other musicians I recognise are Steve Winwood in the keyboards and Steve Ferrone on drums.
Edit: I made a search and the first guitar solos are by Marc Mann (ex ELO, ex Oingo Boingo).
- Prince made a sound check but not a single rehearsal. Danny was shaking legs like dancing and Petty told him to relax "He's Prince doing a solo, he never fail".
- Rolling Stone magazine did another of its famous stupid lists: "100 best guitarists ever" or something like that. They let Prince out of the list.
- Prince thought "OK...".
- Then this happened.
Thank you for identifying the first guitar soloist. It’s been bothering me because I thought I should know him.
It's also worth noting that Marc Mann's solo was originally Eric Clapton’s solo from the original song.
It's also worth noting no one on that stage knew what Prince was going to do. Marc Mann kept "hogging" the solo during rehearsal. Prince let it slide. But you can see half way through Prince's solo Tom is grinning at him and encouraging him to just let it all go. I think that is what made it all the better.
Side side note.. Prince was inducted that night as well.
@@tamiosburn3389yes, I knew all that. The White Album was at home since I was 7 or 8 y.o. Now I'm 56. While My Guitar, Julia, Back in USSR, Obladi were among of my favs as a child. As a teenager, others took place like Helter Skelter or Dear Prudence. I've came to hate While My Guitar until the day Prince turn it upside down sayin' "hey Slow Hand, look at this.
Of course Petty was happy and enjoying what was happening, probably him the most.
Another trivia. Ferrone said Prince was a last minute addition to the band and at one moment "he materialised there during the sound check". Windwood said to Ferrone "is that him, is that Prince?" and Ferrone wanted to say hi to himand encourage Windwood to get there and just shaking hands. Only Ferrone got to Prince and when he said "hello I'm Steve Ferrone" Prince answerd I know you wich surprises him for real. Minutes later Ferrone heard something familiar coming from stage and it was Prince smiling playing a riff from a Ferrone's own songs: well, little lie, "Schoolboy Crush" by Average White Band where he played drums before The Heartbreakers.

@@tamiosburn3389 yes, Prince was on that stage because he was also inducted. Petty was easy, he could roll with things, share the stage.
Bravo for that amazing description
Greatest guitar solo ever filmed. None better. No one could do what he did there.
I suggest you watch Dazed and Confused or Comfortably Numb live..
Agreed

No one.
💯❤️🔥
Prince was the finest musician/multi-instrumentalist and visionary of our time. Cannot even begin to imagine what he'd create today. Undisputed GENIuS!!
I loved Prince! No one like him. I've watched this video hundreds of times. He mastered the guitar!
AT FUCKING ALLLLL!!!! He was music and music he was!!! 🎸 🏆 🫶🏽
"...He stands off to the side for 3 minutes and 20 seconds, lets the other guys do their thing, then comes in and owns everything. This is the musical equivalent of dunking on someone. The best part is that, while at first perturbed, you can tell by the end that Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne aren't even upset about being upstaged. The story goes that Prince was late, and they didn't even want him to perform, but at the last second they relented. They all look ticked at him when he starts playing, but the best part of the video isn't just the solo, which good lord, but the fact that they can't stay mad at him. Prince is too irresistible. When he leans back, and the bodyguard catches him, you see Petty just break. He can t stay mad at him. Prince then stands up, still wailing, and looks at Petty like 'I got you, huh?' And Petty can t even fight it. He starts laughing. How could you stay mad at Prince?"
The solo was totally improvised, Prince had rehearsed with the group but simply played the same solo Lynne was playing, the original solo, right after Lynne. So they had no idea what Prince was going to do.
He was supposed to join them but didn't feel like going to rehearsal & basically said if I feel like joining I'll just slip in. You don't have to worry about me I know how step in. They weren't real sure he could just walk in mid-song, they were after this! Prince waited because he wanted the other guitarist to get his riff in before he stepped on stage so he wouldn't steal the spotlight away from him. & Prince didn't throw his guitar to the crowd, he threw it straight up. (someone caught it)
I'm so glad you did this one! Prince SHOWED OUT. Like his music or not, he was one of the most talented musicians on the planet, and he played every instrument himself on his early albums. 💜💜
One of the most epic Prince performances ever. And that's really saying something!
This is the night Prince was inducted into the RRHF and George Harrison was posthumously inducted. Prince is like a one man army. He checks every box!!
Prince stole the show!!!
You give a good positive reaction to Prince’a most bad-assed performance ever. Thank you!!!
RIP Tom Petty. I've loved his music from my early childhood to adult years (even to this day). Hearing of his passing shocked me. 😨😢 - He is one of my all time favs. ☺🥰
Him and I both are from Florida and I visited the town where he grew up a couple of times. Awesome feeling. I've also been a MAJOR Alice in Wonderland fan my whole life, and I've always loved his video for "Don't Come Around Here No More" , in which he played the role of the Mad Hatter. I love that video. 🤣
Prince forgot more about the guitar and music than most artists actually learn. Please go down this rabbit whole. Hes BRILLIANT!❤
As someone who has forever adored Prince, I always love the anticipation of the reaction when Prince steps up in this performance. Great reaction, Shon!
You need Tom Petty in your life ♡ so many amazing songs from him. Last Dance with Mary Jane, there's so many to name.
Prince was an incredible guitarist, one of the best! The man had too much talent lol
Young fella. You just made my day. . #PrinceIsMyReligion
We have such sights to show you.
Prince is music
Music is prince
One more thing,
When his vault at Paisley Park was opened, after he passed, there was enough finished recorded unreleased songs to release a record every year until the end of the century...around 80 albums of new music. He was a work a holic
Plus he didn't want us to run out of new music

The beautiful voice you are talking is
"Jeff Lynne " from the band
🎸Electric Light Orchestra 🎸(E,L,O)
Your gonna adore this song
🎵Last Train to LONDON 🎵
Keep the good work my friend ✌️ 👍🏻 👏
A lot of people think that Prince threw his guitar straight up and that someone up high caught it but he actually tossed it to that same guy who was holding him when he leaned back.
Ohhhh!! Can't wait til you get to the Prince solo! He literally takes over the stage.
Prince threw his guitar to God to hold for him til he got to heaven 💜💜💜
I highly recommend listening to the original Beatles recording! They remixed the whole album in 2018 and it sounds amazing with headphones.
Tom Petty (Heartbreakers, The Traveling Wilburys) - lead vocals, guitar
Jeff Lynne (ELO, The Traveling Wilburys) - co-lead vocals, guitar
Steve Winwood (Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, Blind Faith)- organ
Dhani Harrison - guitar, backing vocals
Jeff Young (Jackson Browne) - piano
Marc Mann (ELO, Oingo Boingo) - lead guitar
Scott Thurston (The Motels, The Heartbreakers) - bass
Steve Ferrone (AWB, Duran Duran, The Heartbreakers) - drums
Jim Capaldi (Traffic) - persussion, tambourine
Prince (aka "that handsome little guy with the red hat") - soul, swagger, heat, sexiness
George Harrison - spiritual guidance
Eric Clapton - blues inspiration
Jimi Hendrix - cosmic influence
On a stage full of legendary rockstars...
Prince stole the show!
R.I.P. Prince.
I love his sly smile, he wasn't supposed to play that solo, I read that he took over the stage because he wasn't in the hall of fame
Not true. Prince was inducted the same night as George Harrison in 2004. Rolling Stone magazine had put out a list of the 100 greatest guitar players in history and Prince was not included on the list. Prince didn't make the rehersals for the song and George's son Dhani was nervous but Tom Petty told him to relax and said "its Prince he'll do fine" and this performance was what we got.
Every person you mentioned are top in the guitar world Prince is in the company of his peers and he showed out
This is definitely not a bad introduction to these artists for you, this is what they can do live. Live. Sheesh. I clicked on this so fast when it showed up in my feed. Prince! What a talent, and what a showman! He yeeted that guitar up to heaven because he killed it. Killed it dead. And then peaced out because he was done, exit stage right, bye bitches. And for another tasty treat, since you do probably know Jeff Lynne, look up "Everytime Mr. Blue Sky Shows Up in a Movie Montage", a video compiled by Jovi Prata, and I know you will enjoy that. Jeff Lynne is in the band Electric Light Orchestra. I'm gonna watch that next, because I love it. And I don't know how many times I've watched this particular Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame video, because I could literally watch it on repeat for a day and a half it's so good, but I would hate to wear it out so I won't do that.
This song is so good!
This was a Beatles song that was written by George.
Prince the e 😂❤ yeeees
I think prince was annoyed he wasnt added to the hall of fame to begin with, he wanted to orove himseldlf, so it was agreed and arranged for him to come in to rhis song and play to prove himself... he was added soon after. Lol xxx ❤
I'm glad he got the recognition. Ppl 4got he was an amazing musician
They are all amazing musicians here obviously.
Ps the fall and throw must have been arranged 😂😂😂
But yeah, prince was very adamant he could prove himself, and he did. Xx
👏👏👏👏 that was 🔥
Jeff Lynne, one of my top 10 male singers for an obvious reason 🎶🎵
Be sure to check out Prince…Motherless child…best live Prince you’ve never seen…Prince is a top 5 guitarist…

Have you seen Prince's Superbowl Halftime set yet? If not, you must!
Please delve into some Tom Petty! 🙏 Literally pick any song from his catalog. Also, you HAVE to listen to “Fade Into You” by Mazzi Star. It’s very haunting and melancholic sounding! It’s beautiful!!
Prince - Dianonds and Pearls
Welcome to the family. Treat yoself do a reaction to prince america live.
Peter Frampton midnight special do you feel like we do.
tom petty> prince, and prince > MJ, prince domain but tom is a killer in the art
Nice reaction, Clapton was ask in the 90's, "Whats it like to be the greatest guitar player alive", his response was, "I dont know you will have to ask Prince"
That's false, he never said that. He said he was a true genius.
@@kevinminne1460 That's false, sorry.
Hilarious, you have listened to every interview? What was the question when he said he's a true genius. Obviously not the same question I heard asked.
One big ego tripping solo of Prince......
Pretty sure Prince's guitar lit a cigarette after that performance
Prince was an OG. Not only did he throw the guitar, but afterwards he strutted offstage. He was Style. You should check out more Prince! He has a ton of personality that shines on stage.
On a stage with legends Prince still managed to stand out, WTF.
@@ernestsmothers8355 100 % agree. He shined above all others whenever he was on a stage. IMHO he is the GOAT.
Prince and Tom Petty both passed away within a few months of each other. Both legendary performers. Taken before their time.
I've been a Prince fan since the very early '80s. Seen him in concert a dozen times (and not nearly enough!). But THIS was one of his most incredible moments. Yes, he could play every instrument on that stage as good as, or better, than those playing. So he shows off with the guitar. It's like that guitar is a part of his body - he's so comfortable with it, with jazzing it up, keeping the rest of the band informed (note his looks and grins at some points - he's giving notice to the band that he's got more coming). And of course, the guitar toss at the end - where did it go? Heaven? Belongs there with him. RIP Prince. And RIP Tom Petty. Both taken way too soon, much like the person they were celebrating, George Harrison (may he also RIP).
Prince is my favorite guitar player of all time.
Prince is THE most under-rated guitar player.
"When Prince finished playing, the guitar needed a cigarette."
A stage full of guitar Masters!!! Perfect collaboration!!!💜💜🎵🎼🎶🎤🎸🎙🥁🎹🔥🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘
Well if you don't know who Tom Petty is, you have plenty of new material to react to. Tom Petty has great music.
This was when George Harrison was inducted into the 2004 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Great tribute to George & this is one of his best songs that he wrote. Dhani Harrison (George's son) was playing guitar with all the other mega stars that night. Sadly we have lost Tom Petty & Prince now.
PRINCE was inducted. this night as well.
This was an amazing production & I’m sure George is smiling from above! George Harrison has always been my favorite Beatle, have loved him since the British Invasion 1963.🎹🥁🎸🎤. Dhani Harrison is playing guitar & is the spitting image of his Dad. This induction to Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for George Harrison was 🎉fantastic & overdue, the artists truly honoured George💜☮️👏
Love sent from 🇨🇦
George was my man, too! thanks, Suzie!
I have been posting suggestions on these UA-cam comments for two years now.
And now Shon was the first one who ever listened. Thank you, Dude.
Prince was the brightest Star on any stage he ever stood on. Maybe the best Performer Ever!
Written by George Harrison, vocals on this by Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne. All 3 were part of the super group "The Traveling Wilburys" with Roy Orbison and Bob Dylan. You would do well to listen to their material, 5 absolute legends. You'll never have that much star power in a group at one time ever again.
One of the best songs from George Harrison
Surprisingly, many people outside of Minnesota were surprised how well Prince played. Clearly they had not been to see him live.
Yep! He was doing this stuff in concerts for decades. Also in the movie Purple Rain!
"surprisingly"??? I'm from Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain/France and I know where's Minnesota* basically thanks to Prince, I attended 3 gigs and watched him in an after party too.
* The truth is that I can point in the USA map more places than USA's citizens pointing countries or even continents. ;) Probably I know more, and more about North American bands and musicians, than a regular guy of New York.
Maybe one of the advantages of not living in an ultra-capitalist country is access to education and knowledge. And I can pay for a concert ticket but never did it in a hospital.
If you want to get to know Jeff Lynn, you should check out the opening song from Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2, Mr Blue Sky. It's one of the best from Jeff's band "Electric Lights Orchestra". Tom Petty was with Jeff in the supergroup "Traveling Wilburys" (Tom, Jeff, Roy Orbison, George Harrison, Bob Dylan) but is most well known for his hits in "Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers." Check out "Into the great wide open" for a superstar cameo in the video. Great reaction man. Always a lot of fun.
Yes, Mr Blue Sky is incredible. It's considered by scientists to be one of the happiest songs ever made!
Prince is the GOAT. He IS the guitar. They are one and the same. He is a musician's musician. No question. I hope I can visit the planet that Prince hailed from some day.
Aaaewwwww 😢❤
So glad to see someone react to this amazing tribute to George Harrison of the Beatles. He wrote this song, & it was originally recorded by the Beatles. Tom Petty of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers is the one with the long hair. George's son Dhani is playing acoustic guitar over Tom's left shoulder. Jeff Lynne of the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) is the smooth voice singing the verses. Stevie Winwood plays the keyboard. And then we have Prince, playing one of the greatest guitar solos ever. Thanks for your reaction.
The firsts solos are played by Marc Mann, from Oingo Bongo and ELO. Winwood chose the keyboards.
Stevie was playing his beloved keyboards which he is often overlooked or overshadowed, he is an amazing musician 🎹🎸☮️ as are all who paid tribute to George Harrison 💜💥
@@oskarobit My bad, thanks!
@@suzie4417 My bad, thanks!
EXCELLENT music here!! Written by The Beatles originally. Some of the best guitar pickers right here!
Oh wow I didn’t know the Beatles originally wrote this! Never heard a Beatles song
@@shon1303 The White album is The best of Beatles music! Absolutely listen to Imagine by John Lennon!!
@@shon1303 this was a tribute to George Harrison who wrote the song. The kid who's just strumming the guitar is his son.
@@shon1303Please please start checking out some Beatles.. they owned the 60's ,like Zeppelin owned the 70's
I get goosebumps from that guitar work there, Prince was so smooth and fluid. Love this video. The song is one of my all time favorites and I could write a paper on just the guitar used in the original recording, 'Lucy'. A '63 Les Paul Std Goldtop that John Sebastian gave to Rick Derringer who had it painted red, decided he didn't like it a sold it to a shop where Eric Clapton bought it and later gave it to George Harrison. Wow! It was stolen when George was in LA recording All Things Must Pass I think and he tracked it down and got it back. So cool. Love you reactions.. Cheers.
Fire by all. What more can be said? Nothing so we just crank the volume and listen. Thank You Prince for the music, Tom Petty, Dhani , Winwood, etc.
You already reacted to Jeff Lynn when you reacted to Jeff Lynn singing the song Telephone Line with ELO. Jeff Lynn was the lead singer. It was live in Wembley Stadium. You loved it.
It's widely known what Prince's capabilities are. On multiple instruments, in the studio, as a live performer, producer, writer, composer etc etc. That alone is extremely remarkable and only matched by a few. The flair and ease he does this with sets him above the rest.
I really like to watch people react ti this video, knowing exactly what will happen when this hurricane of a guy starts playing.
Seriously I love the part where he looks at Tom Petty, like " Can I?", while Petty " Sure you can !"
As an amateur musician, those silent interactions mean a lot to me, they're professionnal guitarists of the highest level, and have so much fun playing together.
Besides the solo, the vocal duo between Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty sounds absolutely great. Their voices blend perfectly together.
I think that if you check what they did individually, you won't get disappointed.👍 Have a nice musical travel through their music !
First things first, Prince tossed the guitar in the air. It doesn't come down. Watch it again.
Legend has it th as t the guitar ascended to heaven.
That solo was possibly the most amazing solo ever...ever. 😊
Tom 😊Petty with the white hair is a stonecold legend as well. Both taken from the world too soon.
Back to Prince, thats a rabbit hole like no other, for its is vast and deep and it consumes you. But its a rabbit hole id love to show you.
Prince is music
Music is Prince
There isnt anyone who comes close to Princes tslent, creativity. Genre defiant, work ethnic. He rarely slept or ate according to his entourage. A genius. A master percussionist. A guitar virtuoso. Played 27 instruments. 15 by the time he was 15
Self tsught. Enigma. Im not sure hes of this world.
So much more
Prince stole the show!
The two reasons Prince did this was because he had a huge respect for Tom Petty and wanted to work with him, and Rolling Stone put out its top 100 guitar players of all time list and snubbed him, he wanted to show them they fucked up.
And he did.
"Cream" by Prince, ya gotta do it!!
Threw the guitar and walked off the stage!!!!!! Prince was different man!!!!!
my ABSOLUTE favorite. they killed it. stone dead. 🤘🏼🤯😍🤩
Prince was such an artist!
Prince played all sorts of music, but that performance was all Rockstar
When Eric Clapton was asked “What’s it like to be the greatest guitarist who ever lived?”, his response was “ I dunno, ask Prince.”
He most certainly did.
Check out Stevie Ray Vaughan - Voodoo Child (from Live at the El Mocambo) Thanks for the continued daily content.
I LOVE Prince (R.I.P). There is also an INCREDIBLE cover by Carlos Santana and India Arie. Look for it!....Also, the reason for Jeff Lynn and Tom Petty is because of The Travelling Wilburys (a band put together by George that also included Roy Orbison before his passing R.I.P.). Prince tears it UP!!! It is one of the best guitar solos I have ever heard (and, I'm 62).
Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty were in a group with Roy Orbison., George Harrison his son Dhani and Bob Dylan the group was called the travelling wilburys
Dig your realness my friend!! Soooooo pure bro! you're the best!!!
Prince brought that " don't forget i am black vibe" thats how we do!
Prince throwing up his guitar was like dropping the mic and walking off. lol
Yo youngblood you get it bruh!!!! Prince made that guitar scream and cry at the same time! Peace n chickengrease
IMO you pause the songs to much. You miss the flow of the music by pausing so often.
if you had been looking instead of talking... you would have seen that he didn't throw the guitar into the crowd... he threw it into the air... and it didn't come back down... lol
A Beatles song being performed by some all-time greats. Leave it to Prince to steal the spotlight on a song loaded with hall of famers.
Prince and Peter Frampton are the 2 most underrated guitarist.
prince is a great guitarhero, maybe top 50
Prince gave the guitar to Oprah, who was sitting in the front row.
Rule #1 don’t pause on a solo until it finishes
I always imagine that Prince tossed his guitar 🎸 up to heaven at the end so it will be there when he gets there❤
You should definitely check out the music by all of them .
Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers , Jeff Lynn (ELO) , Steve Winwood both solo and with Traffic .
Also Tom and Jeff were both in The Taveling Wilberries as well. And of coarse anything by Prince
Some of the greatest guitarists on that stage
Prince had the swag, the fashion sense and was one of the G.O.A.T guitarists of this era. Truly a legend and sorely missed. RIP: Prince 💔🔥🎸U R Missed
Here's another one of his most successful hit songs; this is a music video "Prince & The Revolution - Raspberry Beret (Official Music Video)" and you are right all of these artists that are performing alongside Prince are legends in their own right... this is beautiful stuff, bro. This type of music is a lost art (IMO) which is really sad if you think about it. 😥
Prince stole the show ❤🎉
If you like Jeffs voice you should check out ELO they're a great band
The young guy on guitar is Dhani Harrison, son of George Harrison, who was in The Beatles, and also wrote this song.
Steve Winwwod was playing the keyboard. I highly recommend his song 'Higher Love' followed by his daughter's version
of the same song. Love and peace!
I wish Steve Winwood had a verse to sing. He has one of the greatest voices of all time.
