Beta failed due to poor forecasting and marketing by Sony. Fun fact, sony was one of the developers of VHS as well. Sony, matsushita and victor company of japan were all working on a low cost home video system. Sony did not feel that the VHS design with its smaller head drum delivered a good enough picture and with all the moving parts considered it mechanically inferrior. They scaled down a umatic design to the original betamax design. Meanwhile jvc took the designs that they had all been working on and made some minor changes and launched VHS. They then licensed anyone that wanted to make their own decks. Sony on the other hand was holding picture quality above all where as the VHS camp didn't care, they wanted longer recirding times and traded off picture quality for recording time. It was apparent that the public didn't really care about the picture. Those with good TVs generally did buy beta. When I worked we were a big sony dealer and sold tons of beta to people that cared about picture quality. We also rented movies on beta and as long as those were available beta sold well. The market into the late 80s was still about 40% for beta but that changed quick as soon as sony admit defeat and brought out their own vhs, the slv555 which was based on Sony's original mechanical concept for the VHS design and they made it known when they launched it that they were one of the developers of the format.
Gee, what's it to that guy who complains how many videos you upload in one day? He surely can watch your videos at his own pace and it's none of his business what you do in your own time.
Dave ignore these idiots complaining that you upload to many videos, he could just unsubscribe how hard could it be? Just keep uploading these videos we all love them, pretty pathetic of this person to cause you all these problems... upload 10 a day we do not mind but that wanker will hate it HAHAHA What are happening to the head drums? Are the bearing seizing up like the lubricant are drying up?
No I believe the glue that holds the ferrite wafers on the rotary transformer is failing and the rotary transformer touches and pieces chip and get ground up inside it. As to this goof ball, maybe he will get so upset he will blow a gasket and stroke out.
Why on EARTH would anyone think to complain about how many videos you upload?!? That's THE most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. Do we know what the actual basis of his annoyance is?
I have many trolls here that whine and complain. Obviously people with nothing better to do. They whine and complain yet they are still here. To quote from howard stern autobiography "people that like him listen to him for an average of 1.6 hours a day, top reason given to hear what he was going to say next. And for those that hate him, they listened for an average of 3.1 hours a day. Top reason given, to hear what he was going to say next. I leave the trolls be, but when they start making trouble I am pretty quick to mute them permanently.
Actually it was named after the Greek symbol beta. The second letter in the Greek alphabet and was so named as it was the second cassette format that Sony developed, umatic being the first. All cassettes have the beta logo. It is pronounced with the short e sound, not long e such as some have suggested. Those same people constantly argue that solder is pronounced sodder. They probably think aint and yall is a real word too.
Are you serious about someone getting angry if you upload more than one video a day? That is really fucked up... Oh no more stuff to watch and knowledge to learn? How terrible!

The question is how many people will be dumb enough to ask that question.

If Beta was better than vhs why did they replace the beta with vhs
@@12voltvids Thanks wish we could still get them I would like to have one like yours
Please help me out sir
Gee, what's it to that guy who complains how many videos you upload in one day? He surely can watch your videos at his own pace and it's none of his business what you do in your own time.
Well he makes harassing phone calls to my home and work phones, and plays recordings. A total just job.
@@12voltvids Whoa, he's going way too far there. Are there any legal remedies you could pursue?
Upload 5 please!!!!
wau! Thx.
Dave ignore these idiots complaining that you upload to many videos, he could just unsubscribe how hard could it be? Just keep uploading these videos we all love them, pretty pathetic of this person to cause you all these problems... upload 10 a day we do not mind but that wanker will hate it HAHAHA
What are happening to the head drums? Are the bearing seizing up like the lubricant are drying up?
No I believe the glue that holds the ferrite wafers on the rotary transformer is failing and the rotary transformer touches and pieces chip and get ground up inside it. As to this goof ball, maybe he will get so upset he will blow a gasket and stroke out.
haha,we need 10 vid`s a day , so let`s start doing some repairs ,lol haha
I have very little to repair right now. I have a few project units but the parts stores are closed and I am not about to order online.
Publish away more amplifier and subwoofer avr & speaker vids please.......5 a day!!!!
Why on EARTH would anyone think to complain about how many videos you upload?!? That's THE most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. Do we know what the actual basis of his annoyance is?
In his simple mind he says it is spam. The guy has no clue what spam is. He gets upset with the notifications he selects to receive.
@@12voltvids Hahaha! That's like sitting too close to an electric heater and then calling the manufacturer to complain you're getting burned.
More, more,more video's 12voltvids
yes it is difficult to repair this problem>> i think you can send original video head drum to (misterbetamax.com ) if you need
Beta was better
No thumbs down yet - he gave up :-)
You tex to early , now look
Odd how you Americans pronounce "Betamax" as "Baytamax", instead of the correct pronunciation "Beatamax"!
Because that's how the Japanese roughly pronounce it, and they invented the format.
Beh-ta-ma-ku-su
Actually it was named after the Greek symbol beta. The second letter in the Greek alphabet and was so named as it was the second cassette format that Sony developed, umatic being the first. All cassettes have the beta logo. It is pronounced with the short e sound, not long e such as some have suggested. Those same people constantly argue that solder is pronounced sodder. They probably think aint and yall is a real word too.
@@12voltvids Wonder why Sony didn't call their U-Matic format "Alpha." /jk
I see Nothing, Nothing LOL..... If's it's free at one time then I think it outta be free all the time .......
He’s jealous of you and wishes he could fix a video or camera. Now how about Panasonic hs 1000 or ag series
Are you serious about someone getting angry if you upload more than one video a day? That is really fucked up... Oh no more stuff to watch and knowledge to learn? How terrible!
Yup. Not saying his name but if you go back to will see his comments on old videos. He is banned now.
That's crazy. Well, people are stupid... Not much can be done about that unfortunately.
Lol who cares if u upload lots of videos i think that complainer just wants attention on utube or publicly
Interesting antiquated technology.
