I'm perfectly fine with reprints. They end up going up later anyway, especially with the more desirable sets. We've seen this happen with many sets up until now. Plus, it gives newcomers more opportunity to enjoy a set at a good price before they're gone.
I was talking to my buddy about this as well. I don't think 151 will ever really be stoppable. Whatever the product is in February it will get swallowed at retail as fast as it hits the shelves. If the price is closer to the market price like 6-8$ a pack then it will hardly affect the market value of the set anyways. It's almost a win-win.
I couldn’t believe how much my sealed investment went up when I checked it on Shiny, it gained $5k in one month. Evolving Skies BB’s keep rising, 3-pack blisters up, ironically ES sleeved booster packs were down a little??? Top video Michael 🤙
Hey Michael - I’ve been a bit quiet lately but I’m still a fan of your content - keep up the great work! 👊🏻 Related to your topic today - it’s really a simple investment strategy for me - buy sealed ETB PC cases and BB cases at each release and let the amazing Pokemon brand do its thing. With most investments, realizing a strong ROI takes time. What would be interesting is to see is an aggregate analysis on ROI timeline for Pokémon. What is the typical return on BB one year after release, two years? Five years? Perhaps slice it by banger sets vs. average vs duds. The struggle I have is when to buy MORE of one set vs just one case. Make sense? Perhaps a future topic? 🤙🏻
I have one booster box of obf and sv base. It's a start but I like your idea of two booster boxes to start. I also have a 151 booster bundle display sealed for the long time like the two single booster boxes I have
Fusion was not loved at all. I believe we just have more money sloshing around here. All the wallmarts, targets, best buys are wiped clean on all pokemon cards
Brilliant Stars still available too - those sets are a no brainer at £143 at this point. It can be hard to judge the UK market sometimes because everyone uses the US/TCG player for their data, and there's some big differences in prices of certain sets, but once they sell out it's only a matter of time before they are around the 200 mark. They seem to be clinging on forever though 😂
@@robertromero8094 yeah and yet that's the set thats sold out here - it's so odd. It's not seen a massive rise or boom out of nowhere but it's steadily gone from about 100 to 150 a box over the last 6 months. All quite healthy/natural I guess. I know what you mean with PC, we have the same problem with the shipping. It's why I've not been buying them up from there anyway. It's genuinely better to buy off a trusted eBay seller for an extra £5-10 to make sure you get a minty box.
I love JP 151 but consider the lower liquidity, english cards are in far greater demand I snap up japanese singles all the time, sealed product I'm less bullish on but dig around for a good price if you're gonna go that route. MSRP in japan is like 38 USD a box. Smoke and Mirrors hobby often has them for 40-60 106 shipped gets you SV4 and SV7 english boxes on tcgplayer right now
I think surging sparks is going to be one of the top sets in SV. I have seen openings, and the pull rates look tougher than twilight masquerade and temporal forces. Also there are easily 5 very popular SIr chases and 1 very popular trainer (unlike twilight). This set will definitely be fun to watch.
Hey @PokeOz. Do you buy up raw cards and grade to sell like your example with Scizor? Do you buy product to flip in the short term or do you simply buy and hold? Do you keep track of profits, reinvest profits etc or do you still have all your assets in stock? Cheers for your insight!
it will crash at some point, and then recover all commodities/equities do this, and it's awesome cuz if you don't get scared and sell off you can just keep doubling down on your positions while driving your overall cost basis down they've been cranking these out since 1996, I think it's evergreen
SV will always have a better set value on Average they perfected the mid to high range value with the rarity structure through the good spread of SARs and ARs.
Stop coping the biggest buyers and sellers of 151 are gen x and boomers. They prop it up because they want to sell it, now it’s hard to get product so they speil their reprint narrative to get prices to go down so they can get more.
What's the price you planned to take profit on Pokemon cards at? For 151 investors, are you also investing in Unlimited Base? As of a few days ago the Unlimited trio was the same price as 151. That seems really bearish doesn't it? 😅
Just my two cents but I feel that your videos have become overly bold in a way. Here you mention that people should hold for long term, which is fine, but there’s also nothing wrong with making a quick buck and moving on. Also directly telling people “buy surging sparks” just doesn’t feel right to me. These are just a couple examples from this video but it’s a trend I’ve noticed over time. While I don’t necessarily disagree with your advice I think it’s important to remember that no one has a crystal ball.
While there is nothing wrong with trying to flip things quickly, it seems far more bold suggest a flipping strategy than to suggest a conservative long and hold strategy so I don't really think your first point holds water. Crystal Ball or not the safer strategy is to buy and hold sealed for the long term. And reprints or st volatility aside, suggesting we buy surging sparks and hold for the long term is no more unusual than saying the same for the last set, yet surging sparks has more hype and popularity, likely making it more attractive than some prior sets.
@@benjaminkappler2255 it’s not about which strategy is “better” since both are viable, it’s about directly telling people how they should be investing. And again, its not about the specific set, it’s about directly telling people to go out and buy something.

There is literally not a single pokemon booster box ever that has not gone above its MSRP price excluding the ones currently in rotation. So at what point do we call it a crystal ball 😂

The market is definitely going crazy for this set! 🔥
Do we think 151 singles should cost a lot more than Unlimited Base Set? They're basically at parity raw. How much more should 151 cost?
Do you think when surging sparks is released
The bb will come back down to $96
Or should I just buy the case at $659
Not coming back down to 96 without a big reprint.

Do you think too many people are investing these days? So in 5-10 years time there will be more product available than say we have now with XY.
There'll be natural attrition but yeah, I think overall more people are holding for sure.
