The first time I see someone non spanish speaker saying Vallejo correctly. THANK YOU. Literally years watching painting videos and not a single one not butchering my lenguage. Valeio, Valejou, Valeiouuu lol Very good video by the way
I use it on a bunch of tanks for my Reaper CAV models and it really pops when a bunch of them are finished like this. Saves a ton of time too on those models you just want to get on the table.
I must wholeheartedly agree with you. I am a bit tired of freehanding and highlighting every detail so a fun little contrast side project with some Tau Stealth suits should be fun.
Thanks for this video. Using these contrast colors made it simple to get a 3 color pattern. With strategic placement you get light brown, dark brown, and green.
Well this was it icing enough I went for it! I tried a zenithol prime but a touch heavier on the white. I also used Skeleton horde for my first color cause that’s what I have. They look great! It was quick with good results. I’ll have to try some with a basic prime to see how much the zenithol made a difference. Thanks for the video and the inspiration to paint!
Thanks for all the awesome videos, as novice painter they are so helpful, just today I've been painting some Cloud Cobras with a lot of tips from this vid. Looking to trying out the more advanced techniques for cockpits and weapons as I get to that stage.
@@ChromeDrakeGaming Nearly all of my decals come from www.fightingpirannhagraphics.com I do print my own mech names and minor things like black checkers but much less frequently.
Great tutorial! You are really getting some amazing results with those contrast paints. I was planning on trying to do something similar to this, but with gray tones to paint up a lance of Gray Death Legion. Nice to see it in practice. Thanks!
Great tutorial; I wonder now if the black contrast could be used in the same way as the green for doing the stripes over an army green/forest green base for a sort of BAOR camo
Thanks. I don't have one specifically covering that color and process but that cockpit was done very similar to my laser jeweling tutorial. Depending on if you are doing a smaller cockpit, here's another method I've used on very small cockpits: ua-cam.com/video/hM21En1JV0U/v-deo.html
I would use the same colors here but also add a medium brown either by painting it before the contrast colors, or using a darker brown contrast color like snakebite or gore-grunta.
@@CamoSpecsOnline Actually, I just have had some interesting results with cotton sticks and Vallejo paints. Over the primed model (Vallejo’s Gray was my primer 74.641) I used German Fieldgray (70.830) to cover overall of the model (except some weapon parts/gunmuzzles). Then with 50:50 mix of Khaki (72.061) and bonewhite (72.034) I dry tapped with a cotton stick to make pattern. Over these patterns I gently dry tapped with another cotton stick colored with cayman green (72.067) to fade the edges between the khaki mix and base greenish-gray. I am still need to test out finishing touch of camogreen (72.031) with a sponge to make ”pixel pattern”.
I'm not usually a fan of GW contrast paints but they seem to work really well for 'mechs, especially this Aggaros Dunes + Militarum Green. Really nice work! I'm sort of rediscovering BattleTech - played it in the 80s as a kid and still have the original 2750/3025/3050 tech manuals! My only concern is that I missed the Clan Invasion Kickstarter and it's not clear how many of the mechs will be released to retail. Great channel btw!
Welcome back to Battletech. The kickstarter mechs will all eventually make it to retail. You should start to see box sets hitting the shelves of distributors by Q2. Thanks for the reply!
Bro. can you do a video on the tools you use? Like brushes, knives and such and are you open to try new tools? For example I use a makeup brush for drybrushing. Just a thought
I show the specific brushes, tools, materials I use in each video that pertains to each subject. Look back at some of the older content if you haven't already for mini prep, sculpting and the like. And funny you should mention the makeup brush as my next video recommends it as a much better option as a drybrush and stipple brush.
@@CamoSpecsOnline Awesome! I didn't mean to step on any toes. I have watched a lot of your videos but you never mention the names of the brushes or knives or clippers.
@@70rayvn Not a problem to ask. I don't know that mentioning the brands and such will be a good thing as buying a $20 windsor & newton brush doesn't make you a better painter. I get what you're saying though and I'll keep it in mind and maybe I'll come up with a creative video answer.
@@CamoSpecsOnline Windsor & Newton can suck an egg. $20+ for a brush... who does that? Pfft, I use Back 2 Base IX brushes as my workhorse($40 for 6 brushes) and BrokenToad for detail.

Great question. It's an excellent color primer to use for this. The only reason I show painting on the ivory/bone color is to demonstrate that you don't need the GW primer if you don't have access or don't want to spend the money on it.
Absolutely. With contrast paints it seems to be best to do the lighter color first as I did with the brown before adding green. If you're not using a lighter blue, I'd suggest a very dark blue for the stripes so you can make out the pattern color difference when it's done.
Could you do a tutorial similar to this but for a white/medium grey/charcoal urban camo style some day? Anyway great channel for those of us who dont own an airbrush.
I've only thinned it using Contrast Medium which was demonstrated in the Easy Purple video. If I were going to try it out, that's literally where I would personally look for ideas if I were to make a video on it.

Hey Camospecs. Just wanted to check. If I were to airbrush the Vallejo bone white on after priming whats the ratio of thinner to pain i should be using...
I don't use airbrush thinner, I use Vallejo Flow Improver and some water to thin. I can't speak to more than that as paint consistency can vary but I've never had speckling or flash drying issues with flow improver as my thinner.
I'm kinda confused, I used the exact same colours, but my aggaros dunes came out far darker, yours has a nice green hue to it, like forest mud. But the colour of mine literally looks like fecal matter : (
That's the first time I've heard of that situation from the several that have tried this scheme. It might be the paint wasn't agitated enough, or you could possibly have a mislabled bottle.
