totally agree. i hope he doesn't have any regrets. just from personal experience loyalty doesn't always pay the bills. and sometimes it's not reciprocated. but he was a top player facts
Larsson was on £40k a week at Celtic on the early 2000s. That's what Roy Keane was getting at United at the same time. If he had left, he wouldn't have got much more, if not taking a pay cut.
@@kb5509 Bang right. The OF was paying top dollar during this time. HL would have gone if he could have got more elsewhere. People forget just how much players got at the OF before the Sky money really kicked in. Rangers tried to sign Ronaldo when he left PSV. And, apparently, his advisers took the offer seriously. The OF were paying 40-50k a week at that time. Footballers always follow the money, whatever else anyone tries to tell you.

That bit at the end about Henrik Larsson playing for Man Utd in the twilight of his career is the reason Larsson is absolutely adored by Celtic fans.
Larsson signed for Celtic when he was 25 and left when he was 32.
He spent his peak years at Celtic and then later played for Barcelona & Man Utd. Since Celtic sold Dalglish to Liverpool in 1977, we've just got used to our top drawer players leaving after 1 or 2 good seasons.
Football is a short career and so I don't really begrudge guys who want to earn more money or play in a stronger league etc... as one bad tackle and it could all be over tomorrow for them BUT Larsson didn't choose that path and that is why he is held in such high esteem amongst Celtic fans. Well that and 242 goals!

It was Celtic 6-2 Rangers, followed by a return match that ended Rangers 5-1 Celtic only a few weeks later; I remember those games as a kid! ⚽

Larsson went on to score 38 goals in 84 games for Helsingborgs, finishing up at 38. As a Celtic fanatic, he was the best player ever to play in the PL imho. Brian Laudrup would be a very close second but Henrik was top of the shop. Saw him get the worst injury I ever saw live against Lyon for Celtic. One of those where the leg makes shapes that make you nauseous. Says alot about him that he came back and was still world class.

Hai hail. Martin O'Neil built the foundations for celtic today. Took over a team with 20 point deficit to rangers and won the the treble, showed dermot Desmond how to recruit properly from the EPL. And broke us onto the European scene. Oh and forced rangers to go down the EBT Route.

There is a long list of players, whom while at celtic and then move to the prem, the celtic support know who is top class and can make it. Be it di canio, viduka, VVD, Larsson. There is more i'm sure. But if we say a player can hack it at the top level, we mean it.
The Old Firm Derby WAS the biggest club game in world football. WAS. There hasn’t been one since 2012. Now it’s just the Glasgow derby.

Explain to me how if they moved to the Premier League in 2023, how both Old Firm clubs would magically be competing at the top of the league after a handful of years. That same old story has been trotted out every time it's been brought for the last 30 years, and stopped making any sense about 20 years ago.
