Wow..... what a stand off. A perfect time to get aggressive and force a move..... watched it twice and probably again. Thanks for sharing! Elk101 ROCKS!
100% agree with this tip, raking has doubled our hunting success in the past. It definitely helps in bringing in a bull that is holding up and decoys also help too. : )
These are the best videos. enjoy the breakdowns of how they got it done. great for learning, I hope they go through this year's season and make these types of videos again.
Learned about raking in a bull by accident in the early 1980s. Was chasing a bull with cows, on a rainy evening, for nearly an hour. Had to run to keep up and every time I'd bugle ( on a corrugated metal "whistle") he'd move off. Finally decided NOT to call and just get in as close as I could. Was jogging in and jumped on a wet downed tree. My feet went out from under me and I crashed down thru the branches. The bull came running in and viciously raked a tree 20 yards from me. Unfortunately, it was too thick for a shot but what an adrenaline rush!
Got my 101 Contender call and have been practicing ever since. First ever call. The guys here in the plant are sick of me practicing out in the unit. Haha! Love the vids, tactics, and techniques. Can't wait to call in my first bull!✌
I called in 7 hunters last year with the Contender..... The call is a champ - It is STILL going strong & i rip on it almost daily...!!! IDK what it is but the (3) 101 calls have outlasted all the other calls i bought for last year.....
Wow love the show or video with all the legendary elk calling larry Jones will premos deweight shoe and the greatest caller I have ever heard Corey Jacobsen wow you guys rock and giving more education on elk and calling tactics love it thank you so very much God bless you and your family's your friend and fan Randy Larkin and family
Corey these are absolutely amazing videos, I have watched all the destination elk series and they are fantastic also but this in the zone series is very good for learning tactics. Thank you for all you do for elk hunting and sharing all your knowledge.
I really appreciate the sharing of education. Many times hunters want to hold on to their secrets but don't realize the importance of passing it on. Keep up the good work!
Since I moved to "Elk" country, I can't get enough of all the you tube videos and elk instruction. Question for you: when you are calling as in this video, did you purposely use a very specific cow call? It sounds like the "come to me" cow call which I learned from another instructor. Thanks
Thank you for the video going to add that technique to the memory bank as me and a buddy had a identical situation recently, couldn't get the elk to budge out of a thicket I will definitely be trying this next time.
Love this video. One of my favorites from the destination elk episodes. I am about to buy my first brand new bow and accessories. I was wondering what brand sights you guys run?
I enjoyed this hunt the first time. It was even better the 2nd time 👍 as a new Bugler and elk hunter I love watching your stuff. Your chuckles are rad , I need to get up to speed on those 👌
Really enjoy learning the tricks of the trade with your videos. Excellent documentation and explanation! Curious, do you ever split up and use 2-way radios for communications? I'm looking to get some radios but can't decide which to get. I've been looking at Motorola, Cobra, and Midland (all FRS/GMRS with range of about 35mi). I'll be using them in CO, WY, ID. Thank you in advance for your input!
Ok Cory, what's an old man gotta do, to just get one day of archery hunting in Idaho? An over the counter elk hunt with you. One day, just one, master teacher? My body is running out of time! Was just disabled, I can still hunt. Just harder an move slower n the pack out of an elk could take days. Several compression fractures in my spine , doc told me to quit working 20 yrs ago, well now that it started effecting how often I can shoot my bow and how much it has slowed me down.
An excellent presentation guys ..A 5 star ⭐️ video both hunting and photography sequences as they go hand 🖐 in hand 🖐..You are one special elk caller Corey ..Keep it up ..We all have your backs..I got the h20 ..LOL
Thanks for putting these vids out there. I need to be more patient in the woods. I was this way when I was younger and it continues to be my achilleas heal. Thanks for the reminder and keep up the good work
Would bugling on top of his bugle work in a situation like this? I have heard that when you cut a bull off with a bugle it can piss him off. It's like saying "shut up and listen to me". No male of any kind would take that. They would come to fight. IMO. Thanks. Great lessons and video.
Melvin Dunn in 2016 I was archery hunting elk for the first time and I did just that, cut him off, after about 5-6 times he ran up hill at us. It does work... good luck!
Awesome! Lots more of this! If you guys want to add viewers, teach people technique. Entertainment is great...but most of us are here to capitalize on the education of UA-cam-University!!!
I like the teaching format with the first one being one that didn't work out in you and the guys' favor and spoke on what you should have done or would do if presented with a similar scenario and then this one where there was success and what went right for Donnie to put an arrow in that bull. I liked Donnie's jumping up and down reaction I know I would be feeling the same, especially since I have never been elk hunting. Looking forward to episode 3 of In the Zone.
Thanks, Cory! I have been struggling to learn how to chuckle for the last 8 years, watching you chuckle in this video, I don't why, but it finally came together for me. Now I can't figure out why I couldn't do it before now. ha haa!
Convincing that bull the cow at the beginning was coming into heat maybe would've pulled him in quicker With raking add glunking and panting with more winey cow mews There's always several different ways to get a bull down Great bull and great video!!!
Wow..... what a stand off. A perfect time to get aggressive and force a move..... watched it twice and probably again. Thanks for sharing! Elk101 ROCKS!

Cory, excellent illustration on this topic. The voice over and animations are very impactful.
Priceless! I don’t think elk hunting could be taught any better than that.
These are the best videos. enjoy the breakdowns of how they got it done. great for learning, I hope they go through this year's season and make these types of videos again.
I watched the original episode of Destination 101. I really enjoyed watching it again and the detail breakdown of the setup and calling. Awesome!

I Love Donnie!!
Thanks for breaking it down.
Very impressive, a very important detail was the cow call to stop the bull in the shooting window.
Corey these are absolutely amazing videos, I have watched all the destination elk series and they are fantastic also but this in the zone series is very good for learning tactics. Thank you for all you do for elk hunting and sharing all your knowledge.
That was just as intense the 2nd time. Sharing this one.

Great Video!
Awesome
Another great video.
Thank you for the video going to add that technique to the memory bank as me and a buddy had a identical situation recently, couldn't get the elk to budge out of a thicket I will definitely be trying this next time.
Corey and Donnie, tell us about the shots! What yardage, how was the bull oriented and where was he hit, how far did the bull travel after impact etc.
Patience....... yep that sure illustrates that
Omg it’s was hard work but it payed of
Still waiting for the "Donny got an elk" compilation
Love this video. One of my favorites from the destination elk episodes. I am about to buy my first brand new bow and accessories. I was wondering what brand sights you guys run?
Hi Austin! Thank you for the kind words! I run HHA sights and rests on my bow :)
UN-Real!
Cory what bow do you recommend for a beginner?
Hi Jerrod! We are a huge fan of Prime bows. Thanks!
Hey Corey, I'm interested in the reed you are using?
Dan
Star, ID
Hey Dan, it is the elk 101 champ diaphragm and the bully bull extreme tube from RMHC.
Awesome video, but i think you may want to run a wet wipe of that keyboard real quick haha
Is that a deer or an elk?
Laura Reyes elk
😁💪💪🇺🇸🇺🇸
Donnie’s personal celebration is priceless! Thanks for the continued situational advice! Congrats Donnie and well done Corey and John!!
Great video. Glad that you are able to work together as a team. Great tactic when you are hunting with a partner.
Keep these "in the Zone" vids coming
I enjoyed this hunt the first time. It was even better the 2nd time 👍 as a new Bugler and elk hunter I love watching your stuff. Your chuckles are rad , I need to get up to speed on those 👌
That was INcredible. Such great patience. What a great combination of calling and raking. Thanks for sharing!!!
I miss watching your guy's videos, thx for the tip and for bringing them back.
This was textbook perfect!

Radio communication is illegal to use when hunting in most states. And game wardens will sit and scan for people using them.
The kid like Shrills with Donnie & the his call umping up & down realizing he almost tipped over backwards - CLASSIC !!!! hahaha
I've been re-watching Destination Elk, this is the episode I watched last night. I always love Donnie 's reaction when he shoots a bull.
You're not only a great caller you're an excellent educator as well! And Donnie's reaction is priceless !
Well I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight. That was intense. Cant wait for September!

That giddy jump and squeal after taking the shot! That's the best.
Awesome video! You guys are wizards in the elk woods!
Would bugling on top of his bugle work in a situation like this? I have heard that when you cut a bull off with a bugle it can piss him off. It's like saying "shut up and listen to me". No male of any kind would take that. They would come to fight. IMO. Thanks. Great lessons and video.

Jacob, did you feel this video was not educational???
Elk101com It is a perfect way to provide education ! Very well done!

Convincing that bull the cow at the beginning was coming into heat maybe would've pulled him in quicker
With raking add glunking and panting with more winey cow mews
There's always several different ways to get a bull down
Great bull and great video!!!
Question. After the shot there are a few cow calls. I can't tell where they are coming from. Is there a reason for that?
