WHY WHY WHY do car reviewers continue to say this is a cheaper version of a Bentayga? No it isn't. No person shopping for a Bentayga is going to say, "Oh my gosh, I xan get a GV80 for $65,000, why pay $200,000 for a Bentayga?" Good grief. It's just a decently built, terrible looking vehicle. Period. Not even close to a Bentayga copy.
So, Hyundai decided to build a car that has an exploding engine inside instead of building a modern electric car that the world would actually want? Snorefest!
I want to like these. But seeing them in person, the rear looks very droopy. Like a dog itching themselves on the carpet. Jus can’t get past the rear 3/4 view. Unresolved.
Makes you wonder if VW/Bentley would of allowed him design The Car He wanted instead of what Bentley ended up looking like ….as is clear you could see some the ideas he had but Bentley said NO F off with that modern crap lol
@@f1b1777 yes I think that probably was the case. When you look at Kia and Hyundai and where the designers worked befor you can definitely see thwarted design finally realised. Apparently, Hyundai, sorry Genesis offered twice the salary to move to them from Bentley.
Really nicely done. Fully agree with your points. Interestingly, with the Genesis GV70 listened to you and raised its main selector wheel inside to match the transmission gear selector knob so hopefully they update the GV80 with it. As far as the GV80 goes, it is so gorgeous inside and out. Bespoke and elegant. I would buy this over the bland Germans even if it doesn't have the ride quality sophistication. The interior is refreshing with warm, inviting materials and colors. No piano black plastic inside or a million LCD displays is refreshing. I want one.
Of course they do as the European brands make some of the best cars in the world, but any true motorhead should appreciate a great car regardless of where it comes from.
@@autogefuehl to clarify my comment. The tax to be paid each year is much less (per 1 hp) if the car has 249 horsepower compared to the same car which has 251 horsepower.
Hi Thomas, was this the diesel? I couldn't hear you mention in this video what engine you drove. It sounds like a really nice 30/35D engine from BMW so I think it's a diesel :D
Finally you got your hands on this suv! ❤️ As expected, you nailed the review of this suv! Genesis kinda scrimp on the suspension and handling compared to European luxury brands. Thank you and stay safe
Those who seriously doubt whether Genesis can succeed in Europe have no idea that its parent company Hyundai already outsells every other brand in Europe short of VAG and Stellantis. The performance of a luxury brand is closely tied to how well their parent company performs. Toyota, Honda, and Nissan sales in Europe are pathetic compared to Hyundai, which is why their luxury brands either flop there like Lexus and Infiniti or don't even exist like Acura.
Europe sales 2020: Toyota 642,000 units vs. Hyundai 419,000 units. In 2019: Toyota 730,000 units vs. Hyundai 547,000 units. Find the wrong point in your comment (about Toyota sales in Europe).
@@milanbujna2957 Wrong. Hyundai sales include Hyundai and Kia- both are under the Hyundai Motor Group. Should have been obvious when I mentioned VAG and Stellantis. HMG sold over a million units in Europe in 2020 and 2019. Toyota doesn't even come close.
@@gasstation405 Aaaaah, now it's Hyundai Motor Group. So, so. I hope, now you see your mistake. Never say just Hyundai. Because Hyundai is Hyundai, HMG is Hyundai + Kia + Genesis. And Toyota is Toyota.
@@milanbujna2957 I made no mistake- it should have been obvious when I mentioned Stellantis and VAG that I was referring to Hyundai Motor Group. Even a child could figure that out. By the way, Toyota is Toyota + Lexus, not that that helps them with sales compared to Hyundai in Europe lol.
@@louisbeerreviews8964 I’ve seen that there are better sales of the BMW 5er in Europe than the G80. The same case could be said for the X5 over the GV80.
The price vs. quality has my attention. Eventually I need to replace my Audi allroad wagon which I love. I would like to go EV... But - the Audi EVs cost too much and don't yet have range on par with the better EVs. This car though a little larger than my needs is very sleek to be so large and the price (less than I'd pay for a newer allroad) to purchase and operate make this car a thought option. The suspension and that dull steering wheel need to be fixed -- but those camera views on turn signal activation caught my eye. Audi needs to get with the program or at least feature>>up if they want me sign up again.. This car easily passes the "Can my Road Bike Fit without removing the front wheel?" question. There are more than 67 inches with the rear seats down. One other thing Thomas - if the radio knob was the same as the gear change knob - that could be a safety hazard. Cars with dials for "gear selectors" seem neutered to me even though we use paddles/DC motors etc. these days. Genesis you may be seein' a brother soon..
Hi Thomas. I`ve noticed the same 'vacuum' sensation when flying onboard Dash 8 airliners which have noise cancelling - the Q300 series aircraft. I had always assumed it was a cabin pressurisation thing but perhaps it`s an auditory phenomenon. Certainly I`ve never felt it on any other airliner. I`ve not experienced a car with noise cancelling yet - I`ll have to get a test drive in a GV80! Great review as always.
I have the 2023 GV80 3.5 Prestige in the same color but with Dune interior. In the US however they come with dual exhaust pipes, must be a European thing that they exclude them.
Here in Australia, Genesis has fixed pricing, whereas the Euros discount, and that makes a big difference. The GV80 I'd be interested in would be the 2.5T with second row climate, which means I'd need to option the Luxury Pack, and the price is $110K. I would cross-shop the base Audi Q7 @ $115K, but I'd be very surprised if I'd have to pay more than $95K for the Q7. The Q7 is simply more car, too - a more efficient 3L turbo diesel, AWD, it is larger in every respect, has adjustable height air suspension, and for me as a chauffeur, better warranty. Genesis are delusional with their pricing here, IMHO.
Infinity who are more established and more popular than Genesis in the US, tried and failed in Europe. They’ve packed up their showrooms and left. I’ve seen some reports that Genesis marketing haven’t got off to a good start and made some bad offers to UA-camrs and they’ve all turned their backs on them. Germans aren’t going to buy one over their own beloved Audi, BMW or Mercedes. British are badge snobs won’t move away from the German brands either. The French only like their own Peugeot and Citroen too. Italians tend to stick to their own brands too. Seeing a trend here?? 10 years time we’ll look back and say remember when Genesis tried to sell in Europe.
@@SomeGuyCalledDosser I have to wonder if Hyundai puts themselves in the European market knowing that they likely will not become much of a player there, but what they learn and become in that market makes them a better competitor in North America. We like a European feel but won't splash out for the German 3 so much. However, leasing solves many a problem. In my escapes from the dank air of the warehouse of the hospital I work at, I walk the parking lot where the upper end medical staff park their vehicles. Palisades, Tellurides, and various Genisii are present, but there are more S5s and GLEs.
Great review. The car seems decent. I doubt it is on the level of the Bentayga, though. Interesting that both cars are designed by the same person. The cars looking similar (according to other people) is not a good thing to me. Feels like I bought a rip-off. Thankfully, I don't think "Bentayga" when I see this thing.
I think the simple fact that someone is wondering whether or not it's truly on par with the Bentayga is an incredible testimony to what they achieved with the GV80, considering that the Bentayga costs 4 or 5 times as much as Thomas kept repeating ;)
A very minor thing, in terms of disappointment, they didn’t equip the tailgate with a closing sensor to stop the movement when it “bumps” into something. Minor I know, but SUV’s that cost less have that feature… btw, I agree on the steering wheel… it’s the most unimpressive feature on the GV80…
Those fold out cup holders in the back? Red flag for easy damage…VW did something very similar a while ago and couldn’t handle American style to go cups back in the day. Kids water bottles will be just as challenging, if not more so. Adaptive cup holders would have been a better call for the family demographic
In my opinion this Genesis looks like something out of GTA. Too many design ideas that do not correspond with each other. The C pillar and the tail lights, the shape of the rear boot, the fog lights, the vents on the wheel arches. Too much going on.
Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. As a start, please tune in to what the animal leather industry tried to do here with our channel: ua-cam.com/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/v-deo.html In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat would be the reason no.1 in other cases, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you accept it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and destroys the environment, you make them more profitable. Also, if you turn the argument around "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize how biased the argument is. After all, would you care for which body part you would murdered? Or imagine someone robs you on the street and beats you to death - would it matter to you if it was for your Smartphone or for your purse? The animal agriculture industry occupies 2/3 of all farm land on this planet which cannot be used for direct human nutrition then. That is extremely inefficient. The no.1 cause for deforestation is the animal industry. It is also one of the biggest contributor to climate change. The amount of land, resources, energy and water being used is beyond imagination. If you are interested in how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: ua-cam.com/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/v-deo.html Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally. For the alternative, you can either use artificial fabrics which can be made from recyclables (we have already shown a lot of vehicles that use great fabric seats from PET-bottles etc.) or more and more also from plant-based materials (like Pinatex). And even if you would create a seat completely with petroleum without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is nothing in comparing just to once fueling up your car. In practical reasons, fabric or microfibre seats are just more useful. You do not sweat in summer and it is not cold in winter. And there are also new leatherette materials available which are superior in every aspect: ua-cam.com/video/u94YXJ72UTA/v-deo.html Not using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all just of common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.
I start following this car in November "20". I put in a preorder online in February. Interior color I want must be in demand. I research then find one but already sold. I'm still patiently waiting.

I got crap in the G80 review for saying that Genesis is a legitimate luxury alternative compared to the Europeans/Japanese brands. I still stand by that statement, come at me...
Honestly, people are just stupid. You used to get a Mercedes/BMW/Audi because they they had things or character other cars didn't have. It's not like that now. Technology and manufacturing development has leveled the playing field. I laugh when people turn up their nose at an Infiniti,Genesis, and similar vehicles as if they're living the poverty life. Sure the legacy luxury brands are better vehicles but owners of vehicles like the Genesis aren't really missing out. For the average person they are very nice vehicles especially for how much they cost.

Of course it isn’t. That imaginary comparison is just for fun
Please, please, please, don't take light jokes this way seriously. You pathetic man.
@@laurentan4020 You're a name-caller i see 🤔. So I'm "pathetic" because you disagree with my comment 😒. Whatever. My comment stands.
So, Hyundai decided to build a car that has an exploding engine inside instead of building a modern electric car that the world would actually want? Snorefest!
It's unfortunate it still has the Hyundai, sorry Genesis logo on the grill.
Funnily enough, the bentayga is more VW than the genesis is to hyundai
Great good, finally a true aryan review of the brand, much respect
I want to like these. But seeing them in person, the rear looks very droopy. Like a dog itching themselves on the carpet. Jus can’t get past the rear 3/4 view. Unresolved.
It's such a mish mash of other cars, kinda reminds me of a giant QashQai from the side. BUT Hyundai are certainly learning.
the head of design at Genesis worked for Bentley
Makes you wonder if VW/Bentley would of allowed him design The Car He wanted instead of what Bentley ended up looking like ….as is clear you could see some the ideas he had but Bentley said NO F off with that modern crap lol
@@f1b1777 yes I think that probably was the case. When you look at Kia and Hyundai and where the designers worked befor you can definitely see thwarted design finally realised. Apparently, Hyundai, sorry Genesis offered twice the salary to move to them from Bentley.
Sangyup Lee!
It was worth the investment, Genesis has definitely upped their game dramatically.
Looking very smart today Thomas!!
Thanks m8!
I want one.
Cool! G70 and GV70 review next month
Superb Luxury SUV for a superb price👍
Looking forward to g70 shooting brake.
250 in Russia is actually 249 because of property tax which doubles if you own 250+ HP engine car
Thanks
My family has been considering getting this car, and I'm rather looking forward to getting in one. You just can't beat that value
Did you guys get one? How has it been, if you have?
Obviously, Europeans pride themselves on their cars.
Of course they do as the European brands make some of the best cars in the world, but any true motorhead should appreciate a great car regardless of where it comes from.
I enjoyed watching the Video Review. A very nice 👍 Luxury SUV
👍👍
Amazing .. Genesis GV80 is amazing and so beautiful, I’m in love with GENESIS ♥️😭
I’m in love with the Genesis GV70! It’s the absolute sweet spot!! Well done Genesis.
Put it side by side the bentayga it looks nothing alike
That said, it looks miles better than the bug eyed bentley
250 hp limit in Russia is due to the tax law. It is cheaper to have car with
💡
Why do you always compare this unique car with boring bentayga
@@gasstation405 You made a mistake. I'm a fan of Koreans (drive one) and I always differentiate between Hyundai and HMG.
Most Europeans prefer the German SUVs.
No
@@louisbeerreviews8964 I’ve seen that there are better sales of the BMW 5er in Europe than the G80. The same case could be said for the X5 over the GV80.
Genesis don’t need to beat the Germans. They only need to take up a portion of the European market that is profitable enough for them.
@@kenchan530 I’m not saying they need to beat the Germans.
@@DaveDVideoMaker Genesis is a new brand for Europe and seems like they are doing fine in Europe
Incredible car looks incredible inside and out
Thanks a lot for a really nice reviuw. There is coming an E version of this car, looking gorgeous. Hope you can reviuw that one!
For the GV80? Thought just for the G80
I can't unsee the Bentayga now 🤣 Do you think the gen 2 Euro cars will be on a par with the best in class German cars?
Comprehensive review. Great video work!
highly appreciated !
Thanks for the feedback!
Simplicity, reliability, value for money !!! 👌🏆👍
Interesting! At least u can turn it off
I have the 2023 GV80 3.5 Prestige in the same color but with Dune interior.
True, That sounds too expensive in your market
Already opinionated comments within 25 minutes 😂
As usual. This always happens. Nothing new.
Italian luxury cars are weak and overrated compared to other luxury european brands. Alfa and Maserati have a terrible resale value
@@wassupbro But Italians buy them, in bucket loads
@@SomeGuyCalledDosser I have to wonder if Hyundai puts themselves in the European market knowing that they likely will not become much of a player there, but what they learn and become in that market makes them a better competitor in North America. We like a European feel but won't splash out for the German 3 so much. However, leasing solves many a problem. In my escapes from the dank air of the warehouse of the hospital I work at, I walk the parking lot where the upper end medical staff park their vehicles. Palisades, Tellurides, and various Genisii are present, but there are more S5s and GLEs.
True, haven't seen many Asian cars (Japanese nor Korean) in EU
@@ckcl78 You’ve seen lots of premium £50k+ Japanese and Korean cars in EU and UK. There’s Lexus and ……………
Great review.
Thanks 🙏
Thanks 😊
I think the simple fact that someone is wondering whether or not it's truly on par with the Bentayga is an incredible testimony to what they achieved with the GV80, considering that the Bentayga costs 4 or 5 times as much as Thomas kept repeating ;)
I love how densely green german autobahns are
Steering wheel may look oldschool, but still better than the one in the new s-class
Amen to that. With no doubt at all.
No
Agree
A very minor thing, in terms of disappointment, they didn’t equip the tailgate with a closing sensor to stop the movement when it “bumps” into something. Minor I know, but SUV’s that cost less have that feature… btw, I agree on the steering wheel… it’s the most unimpressive feature on the GV80…
That is one ugly ass car
I saw this going down the road yesterday. I thought it was a brand new Bentley until I got up close
Thomas love your reviews but what’s your issue with saying the word leather ?
Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. As a start, please tune in to what the animal leather industry tried to do here with our channel: ua-cam.com/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/v-deo.html
In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter.
If you are interested in how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: ua-cam.com/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/v-deo.html
Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally.
And there are also new leatherette materials available which are superior in every aspect: ua-cam.com/video/u94YXJ72UTA/v-deo.html
Not using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all just of common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer.
Is there any way to find out when will this be available in Romania?
Excellent review Thomas, thank you. This car seems to offer remarkable quality for its price and it looks very nice on the inside and the exterior styling works too. This company also make a very stylish shooting brake model, it would interesting to see a review of that car. 👏👍
Currently Hyundai, Kia and Genesis built very competitive cars, if not the best. Design and quality are very impressive.
If you want people to think you have the money go with the mercs. If you want to appeal your intelligence definitely the genesis.
Very impressive design and technology, the only thing I don’t really like is the rotary gear selector but everything else is on point
Love all the cargo room in the boot.
I like your suitcase, what brand is it?
Somebody please tell me why cars are so much more expensive in Europe
i saw this on the road and did a double take. thought it was a bentayga
A 1/4 of the price and 1/4 of the looks, good riddance!
where conclusion
UA-cam Algorithm doesn’t like conclusion so we have to skip it :/
no one is going to change the driving wheel design because you do not like it, sorry...You really can not see and do not understand what is difference between this car ana Bentley, really?
It’s a review.
I got crap in the G80 review for saying that Genesis is a legitimate luxury alternative compared to the Europeans/Japanese brands.
I still stand by that statement, come at me...
It’s just about history and legacy with other Germans, I mean latest Mercedes (my own experience w167) lack in quality by far
Yeah, the fans of Japanese vehicles especially will not easily budge to a new competitor. They'll still pick the Lexus, Infiniti, or Acura over this.
@@pherron7471 I agree. I own a Bmw and am starting to like Korean and Japanese cars! This Genesis is nice in my opinion. Would like to test drive one and see how well it is built.
