      No-one will buy it. Excrutiating depreciation, thirsty engines, a confused image, €50,000 on a Hyundai. All had pills to swallow. I think they have sold only 150 cars to date in UK.

    • @etbadaboum
      @etbadaboum 3 роки тому +5

      @@MaximilianvonPinneberg It's just the beginning. They have to install a new brand, luxurious with that. It takes time and they are committed. Depreciation is a result of being not well-known of course. And I don't see a confused image, I see a well designed car with fantastic luxurious interior and powerful engines. Marketing, sales (with separate showrooms) and hopefully after services follow suite. A range of electric cars coming. All good. Sales are on a tear in the US. Go Genesis.

    • @MaximilianvonPinneberg
      @MaximilianvonPinneberg 3 роки тому

      @@etbadaboum Lexus has been in Europe since 1990 and still have tiny sales compared to the Germans. In 2021, it hopes to increase sales in Europe to 100,000. BMW sold that figure just in 5 series in 2019 alone. Genesis have the wrong engines, developed for the American markets. By confused image, I mean are they a luxury Hyundai? A car in their own right but just happen to use lots of Hyundai parts? Their styling is still confused. A hybrid of lots of other manufacturers. Audi grille, Volvo headlights, Audi and Mercedes styling. This GV80 dash is part JLR (The lower half is a direct copy) and part Mazda. I think they will still be serviced in Hyundai dealerships which is a bit of an issue on a £60k car. Still, 50% 1st year depreciation would make them a tempting buy for anyone wanting gizmos and some reliability and don't care about badge or image.

    • @etbadaboum
      @etbadaboum 3 роки тому +6

      @@MaximilianvonPinneberg Genesis have independent dealerships and their cars are developed on independent platforms which share little parts with Hyundai (which has progresses tremendously over the years). The quality of materials is excellent and the fit and finish perfect. As for the design inspired from other brands, I don't see it at all, actually he looks like globally something akin to a Bentley indeed. I think you associate this car with cheap but you should try a car at least. As for Lexus, they never really tried to be a European brand. Genesis will launch an estate specifically for Europe.

    Bentley is not just practical tool to do the job its also the statement that I have F. you money, I drive a Bentley. Or in other words its a Verblens good, the more expensive - the more desirable. So I wouldn't compare it to this Hyundai, the buyers for them are polar opposite people, its not like someone who considers buying a Bentley is gonna look at this and say 'hm, I was gonna buy a Bentley but this Hyundai is 1/4 of the price so I'll buy that instead, I really need to save every money I can'. Better comparison for this genesis would be Toyota highlander or Acura whatever its called

    The price vs. quality has my attention.
    Eventually I need to replace my Audi allroad wagon which I love. I would like to go EV...
    But - the Audi EVs cost too much and don't yet have range on par with the better EVs.
    This car though a little larger than my needs is very sleek to be so large and the price (less than I'd pay for a newer allroad) to purchase and operate make this car a thought option.
    The suspension and that dull steering wheel need to be fixed -- but those camera views on turn signal activation caught my eye.
    Audi needs to get with the program or at least feature>>up if they want me sign up again..
    This car easily passes the "Can my Road Bike Fit without removing the front wheel?" question.
    There are more than 67 inches with the rear seats down.
    One other thing Thomas - if the radio knob was the same as the gear change knob - that could be a safety hazard. Cars with dials for "gear selectors" seem neutered to me even though we use paddles/DC motors etc. these days.
    Genesis you may be seein' a brother soon..

    Hi Thomas. I`ve noticed the same 'vacuum' sensation when flying onboard Dash 8 airliners which have noise cancelling - the Q300 series aircraft. I had always assumed it was a cabin pressurisation thing but perhaps it`s an auditory phenomenon. Certainly I`ve never felt it on any other airliner. I`ve not experienced a car with noise cancelling yet - I`ll have to get a test drive in a GV80! Great review as always.

    Here in Australia, Genesis has fixed pricing, whereas the Euros discount, and that makes a big difference. The GV80 I'd be interested in would be the 2.5T with second row climate, which means I'd need to option the Luxury Pack, and the price is $110K. I would cross-shop the base Audi Q7 @ $115K, but I'd be very surprised if I'd have to pay more than $95K for the Q7. The Q7 is simply more car, too - a more efficient 3L turbo diesel, AWD, it is larger in every respect, has adjustable height air suspension, and for me as a chauffeur, better warranty. Genesis are delusional with their pricing here, IMHO.

    Infinity who are more established and more popular than Genesis in the US, tried and failed in Europe. They’ve packed up their showrooms and left.
    I’ve seen some reports that Genesis marketing haven’t got off to a good start and made some bad offers to UA-camrs and they’ve all turned their backs on them.
    Germans aren’t going to buy one over their own beloved Audi, BMW or Mercedes. British are badge snobs won’t move away from the German brands either. The French only like their own Peugeot and Citroen too. Italians tend to stick to their own brands too. Seeing a trend here??

    Thomas love your reviews but what’s your issue with saying the word leather ?

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. As a start, please tune in to what the animal leather industry tried to do here with our channel: ua-cam.com/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/v-deo.html
      In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat would be the reason no.1 in other cases, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you accept it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and destroys the environment, you make them more profitable. Also, if you turn the argument around "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize how biased the argument is. After all, would you care for which body part you would murdered? Or imagine someone robs you on the street and beats you to death - would it matter to you if it was for your Smartphone or for your purse?
      The animal agriculture industry occupies 2/3 of all farm land on this planet which cannot be used for direct human nutrition then. That is extremely inefficient. The no.1 cause for deforestation is the animal industry. It is also one of the biggest contributor to climate change. The amount of land, resources, energy and water being used is beyond imagination. If you are interested in how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: ua-cam.com/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/v-deo.html
      Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally.
      For the alternative, you can either use artificial fabrics which can be made from recyclables (we have already shown a lot of vehicles that use great fabric seats from PET-bottles etc.) or more and more also from plant-based materials (like Pinatex). And even if you would create a seat completely with petroleum without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is nothing in comparing just to once fueling up your car.
      In practical reasons, fabric or microfibre seats are just more useful. You do not sweat in summer and it is not cold in winter. And there are also new leatherette materials available which are superior in every aspect: ua-cam.com/video/u94YXJ72UTA/v-deo.html
      Not using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all just of common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.

Technology and manufacturing development has leveled the playing field. I laugh when people turn up their nose at an Infiniti,Genesis, and similar vehicles as if they're living the poverty life.
