War Thunder players when their favorite tank armed with what would be an average-caliber naval gun doesn't destroy a warship in one shot: "no... That's not true... That's impossible!"
Gaijin, the heavy cruiser, and anyone who's really thought about it for more than a few seconds: "search your feelings, you know it to be true."
HESH in war thunder is pretty much a joke, even though it is (irl) capable of shattering the internal/the other side of an armor plate through, it's literally just a reskinned HE round and acts just like standard HE would.

@ Nothing to do with ricochet, the explosives flatten out against the armour surface to increase the area. This transmits maximum energy through the plate to create greater spalling in the cabin.

Upon impacting the inert material followed by plastic explosive is "squashed" against the surface of the target and SPREADS OUT to form a disc or "pat" of explosive.The inert material helps to prevent premature detonation of the plastic explosive and to sustain the impact pressure and temperature.[3] [2]
The base fuze then detonates the explosive milliseconds later, creating a shock wave that, owing to its LARGE SURFACE AREA and direct contact with the target, is transmitted through the material."

That said, HESH probably wouldn't do too much to a big warship - critical areas on those have internal armor that would not be defeated by spalling created by a HESH shell detonating on the hull.

Fun fact: The RN Pola is named after the Croatian city Pula, where it was built (and where I am from).
Fv4005 has only 183mm gun that's really small for ships it's fine for boats or destroyers . Normally ships have 200mm to 350mm guns on them those gun do alot of damage.
So you're saying a gun that's not far from a heavy cruiser gun should be closer to something between battle cruisuer and battleship size?
183mm gun is like small for a heavy cruisers it's very shot barrel gun , It's a tank killer . On battle ships they have long barrel large caliber guns like 200mm to 350mm those are made to sink ships
@@Geniusinventor only similar in shell diameter, most ship guns are 45/50 calibres in length so but fv4005 gun is only 22.4 which is less than half even 113mm British destroyer gun is 45 calibres

It's not small at all. Huge (10K-12K tons displacement) light cruisers of WW2 had 6in (150-155 mm) main guns. Destroyers were 1/5 to 1/4 size of the light cruisers, and only a few German ones had 6in guns, as it was considered too huge for destroyers. 183mm is definitely deadly even to the light cruisers, and should be problematic even for the heavy ones like Prinz Eugen. Barrel length is irrelevant at the distance used in this test.
Fun fact: that hit on Pola from the Aerial torpedo is quite similar to her irl fate. She ate a torpedo from a swordfish whilst practically stationary to avoid colliding with her sistership Zara. Both were sunk at the Battle of Cape Matapan

I HAVE A SUGGESTION: use a custom battles map with infinite reload so you dont need to wait for the gun to reload.

Also yamato technically Exists in the game, but it is ai controlled. You can find it in a single mission called the last sail of the Yamato. You can also see it in Japanese naval test flight map

If you can penetrate the armor you can kill it given enough time and ammo. In custom matches with instant reload you can try this out with everything from WWII solid AP all the way to APFSDS

Feel like that first Torpedo could be considered a kill shot, given the eugens was flooding, her engineering spaces were flooded and burnt out, and she wasn't moving anymore.
Also,given that in the Falklands War a bunch of british marines managed to make a Argentinean Warship retreat with major damage from just Car Gustav fire, pretty sure modern ATGMs should be able to knock out the bridge, main turret rotation mechanism, or her engineering spaces and rudder, any of which is a mission kill as now the ship can't do her job.
Yeah, but in WT that Pola would be good to go if given time to recover. Just flick on the pumps and wait for damage control. You can actually kill heavier ships in one torpedo if you manage to slip it into the ammo stowage at some angles. Steel Guru keeps aiming for where the belt armor is thickest, near the center of the ship.
