R&R had a different theme tune for the better part of its run, and the phrase cues were all variations of it, as opposed to the ones used here, the instrumental version of the Amboy Dukes' Journey to the Center of the Mind, the opening notes of the Savers and the same piece heard as the contestants were writing down their rhymes. And the match win piece was the Newlywed Game's Grand Prize winner cue as well. Hopefully we'll see an R&R reboot at a future NATPE convention.
Indeed! It wasn't even from the game show packagers that normally ripped off other shows, Barry & Enright, although word has it that "W. T. Naud" was a pseudonym for Dan Enright, half of B&E. This series was ABC's answer to CBS's blockbuster "Match Game." Naturally, Mr Goodson wouldn't like it! 😂
I wonder if the celebs were given rhymes. I'd think it would be hard for them to come up w/ good, witty rhymes, and it would be ok as long as the contestants didn't know what the rhymes were.
J.p.Morgan like on the "Gong show" is still her old dirty self. She was eventually fired from The Gong Show because she said a great deal of words and gestures that couldn't be aired.
@@witherblazeAnd Mark Goodson wanted abc to cancel this show in order for them to even get Family Feud (which replaced this show) on the air in the 1st place.
@@witherblaze Nope. When abc cancelled this show, on July 12, 1976 Family Feud replaced this show. Even Bob Eubanks commented about how Feud did 9 times better than his show Rhyme and Reason and also touched on how Mark Goodson hated Rhyme and Reason.
I been thinking about this show for 45 Years. I knew I wasn’t dreaming.
I’d never seen or even heard of this show! Thanks for posting.
Didn’t know there was an episode of this that survived. Great to have the chance to see this!
I hope somebody might find a full video of the final episode of "Rhyme And Reason", Where they destroy the set at the end of the show.
Rhyme and Reason was a super 1975 game show!!
That was fun - some of the responses were a little bawdy for daytime television though!!

"Come along if you care,
Come along if you dare..."
I sure wish this show would be on Buzzr's Lost And Found
Would be to have an updated version of Rhyme and Reason.
when rhyme and reason first aired on abc nippsy russell was the host
Mark Goodson hated this show. It's match game with a rhyme.

Jack has a pair of specs to do CNR proud.
It's obvious some of these were pre written by the producers
You can see the celebrity's look down at the pre written answer.
The Rhyme and Reason logo is almost similar to Oscar Mayer logo. Don’t you think 🤔?

I heard of the story of how she got fired from the Gong Show...she just flashed the audience, and Standards and Practices weren't having it.
she even told chuck barris "kiss my dariaire."
When, where & what network? I don’t recall this show at all.
1975 on ABC in the afternoons
@@markschildberg1667 July 7, 1975 to July 9, 1976. Replaced "The Big Showdown", and was replaced by "Family Feud".
They stole Richard Dawson from the Match Game
Ironic considering this show was panned by Mark Goodson because it was similar to Match Game

@@megamanj2004X I thought they were both on the air at the same time
