I've subscribed. Hope you will clarify my doubt!!
In the first place why are we talking about "Ms word connected to internet" at all as the product is supposed to be a offline product right. Let's say my laptop's internet connectivity is lost and I won't be able to connect to internet until I get it fixed from a technician, so in this case I won't be able to use ms word until I get this fixed. Which should not be the case as I have purchased word with offline usage in mind.

What I learnt: the way he attempted to understand the question, he was able to bring in personas for a software problem, he used his personal experience.. These I wasnt able to do in my exercise... What I felt good about my approach is, dividing the scenarios into problem and solution space, listed down the devices, users, external factors in the problem space, in the solution space I first had a feature for devices to validate the license(hash code with mac address, email registered, license key) and send information on connection with internet, then a Saas application to track the responses from all devices.. I would request someone to tell me if at least the initial approach sounds reasonable

Hi Rajath, sounds like you have a good point, but I kinda want to know 1 thing.

Just an example to illustrate scenario.

@@abhirb12 Hello Abhi, the question is about detecting fraudulent methods, so whether u get connected or not, ms word will work, but whenever connected to the internet, ms word will send all the necessary data to detect fraud, it will not stop working!

@@rajathslr : well my point is not that it will stop working. My question is why I have to connect to internet to get to use ms word for the first time, maybe to authenticate or whatever. What I am saying is since word is offline product, you can not wait until the user connects to internet to authenticate it or to check fraudulent activity. There has to some mechanism inbuilt or embedded within the product itself which authenticates assuming worst case scenario that the user is never going to connect to internet and yet the fraudulent activity has to be detected

@@abhirb12to collect usage data, basically ms wants to keep a track of how many users are actually using ms word, what features are used the most, it might happen that u but the software and u have not installed, but ms will be assuming u are a user, also someone might have stolen ur password, how do u track that? also it helps ms to keep track of the users in different geographical locations, it's all about user data which it can use to improve its product

Thanks for the feedback. You're right about the edge case. There are always ways to address edge cases with further building. Example would be adding a logic that keeps track of how long you've been disconnected from the internet and executing the codes and logic accordingly. Hope it helps.
