So... this is done for the amazing group I'm in DarkStarStudios challenge where we were supposed to vid one (or all) of the offered themes in 24 hours and I.... miserably failed. I was going to go with the Friday theme, but you know. Time management who, computer lagging, tiredness... So here I am, almost full 48 hours late. On the bright side, I changed a lot of things I originally did in the Friday draft and I Actually Like this video, as opposed to probably would have hated it by now if I did finish it on Friday. But I am still tagging this video as #viddingdangerously because... I liked the challenge and editing it?
Anyway, the theme is family & friendship.

Plot:
Basically, post Shire!AU and LotR fussion.
Thorin doesn't die in Botfa, instead coming back with Bilbo to the Shire. It's established Bagginshield. Over the years Bilbo takes in Frodo, who becomes Thorin's basically favourite nephew. It's fine, what King Fili and Crown Prince Kili don't know can't hurt them.
But the years go on, and you know how it goes. The Ring lengthening Bilbo's age, him becoming obssessive with it, all that.... When Gandalf suggests Bilbo leaves the Shire and Ring behind, Thorin cannot help but support this decision. And he initially planned going with Bilbo, but in the end couldn't just leave Frodo alone.
So he doesn't leave him. Nor when Frodo has to leave Shire and flee from Ring Wraithes, nor when he has to go to Mordor. The video ends with the end of FotR, but Thorin goes with Frodo Sam all the way to Mordor and back.
The Ring cannot touch him, because I headcanon that when he freed himself from the hold of dragonsickness, no malicious mind could have a hold on him anymore. It's like... Like having a shot against evil mind, if you will.
Also going through Khazad-Dum is very, very upsetting for him. He cannot help but think that this is where Azog, murderer of his grandfather and brother, lived. Lived in Durin halls, under dwarven glory. It's unfair that he, Thorin, only got to see empty ruins, ransaken by orcs. In his heart he knew Balin was dead long before they even made decision to go in there, but it still hurts to see his dear friend's tomb, and corpses of his friends.
And a big monster living in a dwarven kingdom? Colour my surprised if it reminds him heavily of Smaug. And finally, Azanulbizar. Last time he was in the Valley, it was covered in the bodies of his people.
Originally I was going to vid whole... Story, but I just couldn't. It'd have been too long, probably repetetive, and all that. But I am happy with the outcome, and I'm happy I spent extra time on this video.
Lastly, the reason why Bilbo looks old and Thorin doesn't? Footage, my friends.

I absolutely love the extra layer of “Dad who is supporting/protecting his son” to the wholesomeness that is Tolkien masculinity. Like, there would be friction as to how much Frodo can/should take on, and letting go while still watching his back, and everyone having just one more dependable badass there who knows what they are doing. Oooh, it is lovely!

If Thorin lived The time of Frodo and the battle for middle earth would have been different. He would of given everything for Frodo
THIS IS WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED, YOU CAN'T CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE. THORIN AND BILBO RAISED FRODO, KILI AND TAURIEL ARE OFF BEING BADASS, FILI IS LIVING HIS BEST LIFE.

LOVE IT! I haven't ever even thought about Thorin being a part of the fellowship, this is amazing. And I especially love this new quest makes him remember the previous one, like the in scene with balrog he remembers Smaug.

@@sigyn27 I'm as well working and studying from home. It's such an uncertain situation, made worth that you can carry the virus for weeks and not know about it. I just hope we don't have many victims of it.

@@Wintersmith. I know. Fortunately, when your job is the one you can do at home, you can feel slightly more secure about keeping it for now, but later on the situation is bound to be tough for all of us.
Yes I’m 3 years late but this is beautiful. Even his his older age, Thorin can’t just leave his nephew (or rather adoptive son as he sees it) Frodo to go off on his own. And I love the idea that he’d go for Bilbo, not just for Frodo. He has to be there for his family. ❤

I really love the idea of the Shire AU because despite having such a dark continuation as LotR itself, it means Thorin and Bilbo have several years together

Thank you so much, dear!! This whole idea just stemmed from the thought 'Well Thorin just wouldn't let his favourite nephew down, would he?" Plus hey, he's a dwarf. If Balin (arguably the oldest in the Company) went on the quest, then why can't Thorin go to Mordor?
I want to see Gimli and Glooins reaction of the moment they meet Thorin but I can't so I just imagine

I SWEAR just literally yesterday I was re-watching all your Hobbit vids and feeling sad that good old times of this great fandom were left in the past. AND TODAY I SEE THIS! This was beautiful but what got me crying in the club was when i yet again received the slap in the face about the fact that Ori and Balin died in Moria....i dunno i just have an unhealthy attachment to Balin bc like he's the exact type of person i can see myself telling about all my issues and just having him kindly smile and give me a hug and tell me he'll help me sort out my head no matter how long or slow that process may be

Just rewatched the whole trilogy and my Bagginshield feeling came back with such an explosion that I feel like they never left, and so I'm scavenging YT for some videos and I'm so happy to have found yours! Also, I add my voice to the choir of (hashtag) nobodydieseveryonelives and that in this universe Bilbo and Thorin raise together Frodo. Lovely video and concept!

Oh definitely. This whole trip down to Khazad Dum is one huge triggering and traumatic event for him. Gimli is young, he knows of Khazad Dum only from stories, but Thorin lost so much within and before its walls, and now seeing Balin and Ori dead there as well? There's only so much his poor old heart can take.
This was perfection! I enjoyed every second of this video. I freaked put when you showed child!Frodo. So damn cute. I used to wrote a Bagginshield fanfic with a friend in which Thorib lived in the shire with Bilbo and they adopted Frodo as a child. This video reminds me so much of it. 💞
This is amazing! I love how the scenes fit with the song's lyrics and the rhythm as well as the audio you used for this video.
All of this is well put together and it actually seems like Thorin is actually there with Frodo and the fellowship.

What the FUCK, this is so well made?? This is an entire epic story told in two minutes fifty seconds, and I was astounded the entire way through.
