0:00 Defining sequence.
1:36 Example 1: The circle-of-fifths progression
5:03 Example 2: Down 4th, Up 2nd
7:23 Example 3
I fired my other youtube music teacher, I like you better. your time is forever appreciated. I really like the way you explain things, really straight forward without too much talking and the examples with the actual music makes the lesson delighful. THANK U VERY MUCH!!!
you are the best music theory teacher I have ever come across, i've gone through countless books and videos only to be left more confused
thank you David!
a 6 chord moving to a 3 chord is not rare at all outside sequences. it is not however, "resoloving" either
Thank you very much, very helpful!
i was studying grade 6 trinity music theory sylabus at d end of d book i have this topic i searched on youtube i got ur wonderful explaning so nicely..... tq so much.....
Merci.
The first example went counter clockwise about the circle for the first five chords but the second example F major didn’t play along.
Wait but is the down a four and and up a 2 called?
I'm wondering how come the C is sharp on the viidim and V chord, but not on the F, the III chord?
good question! my usage here reflects the most common usage in common practice music. it is very typicaly to see the raised seventh on V and viio chords in music out in the wild, so I show that here. on the other hand, a III+ chord that uses that pitch is very rare, and so i don't show it here.
So harmonic sequence also should have the same note value as the previous patter or chord????
Or they dint have to do with note value..(for example crotchet A followed by Crotchet D then Quaver or minim G followed by Quaver or crotchet or minum C ).just to move in a particular following pattern like down to 5th in 1st example .To get the next chord of a pattern.
In your "Down fourth up second" you move from V to vi but you dont double the 3rd of the vi. Is this because you are using a sequence?
i don't find the doubling you describe to be mandatory; i think this one is ok in major. Hope that helps!
can you please post the book that accompanies the videos. Can I purchase it via amazon?
Hi! These videos go along with Tonal Harmony by Kostka & Payne, a common collegiate music theory textbook.
@@DavidEFarrell I was wondering why the order of subjects looked similar and I guess I've found my answer haha
3:47 But IV-viio will have A4.This is the bad interval
Le Jun Wong You are right, there is an augmented fourth in the bass. It shows up sometimes!
