Never Mo who was introduced to Mormonism through the Shaytards. Another thing I find crazy is the amount of subliminal messaging I absorbed around what being a good wife/mother takes (following your husband's dreams no matter what, having more kids despite having no money, complete self sacrifice at the expense of loosing yourself, being beautiful and tiny etc.). The thing I find interesting is that Collette from the Shaytards has now clearly gone on a journey and found more self worth etc. which is great, but no connection is drawn to how Mormon teachings influenced this dynamic to begin with.

I’ve been out of the church but living in Utah for the past 10 years. I’ve gradually gained lots of new understandings of different common Mormon personas. You really start to see right through it all.
Being LDS growing up can divorce you so extremely from your intuition. I have a strong sense now that most of the men in my small town ward growing up were very abusive to their families, despite their friendly personas. Lots of creepy Kubric stares as well-you can tell you are being objectified a lot of the time. Visiting back to my parents ward makes me sick to my stomach, but it feels familiar and I remember feeling that way as a teen. I just didn’t know to listen to it. 80% of Mormon adults in my old ward have disturbing vibes. The idea that all “worthy” active Mormons are safe people to be around is absolutely a lie and very very dangerous to believe. This is a group of people who have lived for generations in deep delusion and cannot tell good from bad anymore.

I read a comment once from this person who had dinner with their family and some relatives and they kept commenting on how spiritual they seemed and how well they were doing and then when they revealed that they had left the church, the family was like "I noticed your countenance had changed the second we walked in."

I remember getting a Patriarchal blessing, and for all the things I was doing, I would have been considered a heretic. I was actually scared to go because I thought he would be able to sense my “unworthiness”. But when the Patriarch was done giving me my blessing, he asked me if I had been “fasting and praying” because he said the feeling of the spirit was “so strong.”

About 5 or so years ago, my cat got really sick (having yarn impacted in his stomach) and I asked my dad to give him a blessing. He did and the next day all of the yarn came out. I saw (and still really...) it as a miracle! Later I learned that my dad was doing some very bad things and was preparing to leave the church anyhow. I was really confused because how was it that my cat got better through the power of the priesthood but my dad was definitely NOT worthy to hold the priesthood at that time. 🧐 ???

    • @JessieBanana

Well if it helps, my cat swallowed yarn and coughed it up. I bought a yarn ball toy, that I assumed what cat safe because it came from the pet store, and it hand unraveled and my cat had eaten a ton a yarn. I didn't notice when the ball disappeared, many of her balls disappear under furniture, and figured out what happened when I came across a gross pile of vomited up yarn. I was so happy she was safe, so I do think the same reflexes that make them cough up hair balls can save them from yarn. No miracle required, just luck.

I’m a never-mo who used to watch the Shaytards religiously as a teenager. Didn’t know much about Mormonism back then so the alcoholism of it all didn’t strike me as contrary to being LDS until years later. But I do remember the whole “happiness is a choice” mantra Shay was peddling which I connected with deeply at the time (angsty teenager, hello!) but in hindsight and with more knowledge of the church find disconcerting.

I'm gonna be honest, I personally feel like certain parts of mormonism definitely tend to lead toward better home lives in a way. My grandpa was raised in a home where there was lots of alcohol and tobacco, his mom ended up "renting" herself out in order to pay for her alcohol addiction, his family screamed and argued all the time, etc. If you asked him about what made his home life so bad, he would easily tell you that it was because of alcohol and the lack of moral conviction. The whole reason he was drawn to mormonism was because of how it helped give him motivation to stop drinking and focus his life on his family rather than on himself or his career or the "pleasures of life." However, before anybody thinks I'm gonna let Mormonism off the hook, the church then decides to counteract the good things it does and replaces a lot of the bad habits I mentioned with ones that are psychologically damaging. Mormonism causes children and teens to have waaaaaay more stress than they should due to the perfectionism and insane standards.
The other thing I wanted to say was that Carah is absolutely right that there are good families and bad families anywhere. Being a member of the church is not at all going to help you have a better family. Choosing to have morals and ethics, as well as keeping a safe distance (or to live in moderation) from substances that are addictive and alter your consciousness is going to significantly better your home life. Also, the one thing that Mormons typically have going for them is that they make oaths and they keep those oaths. I think that's a wonderful and powerful thing they do, it's just that they don't choose oaths to love others and to be compassionate, they swear oaths to never reveal secret handshakes and to go to church every week and give all their money to an institution. Those oaths are pretty much useless.
My point is that there are good things in the church but you have to cherry pick the hell out of it in order to hit the golden spot. Too often do I see people leave the church and throw out a lot of the good things with the bad. Jonathan Streeter talks about this and I agree with him. But it's definitely funny to me how this family (the one carah talks about in this video) is able to touch people's hearts with the spirit when the dad literally wouldn't have been able to house the spirit within him due to his actions. The irony is insane and it points out a major flaw in mormon doctrine and it's another example of the crazy standards that mormonism puts on people. Just imagine how torn this guy had to be inside as he was essentially living a lie. Either that or he was an absolute sociopath

I can see how people with /actually/ broken, confused lives can be so drawn to Mormonism or high demand religion. It gives them something to hold on to. It offers structure, answers, and guarantees, in this world without answers and guarantees. It’s just a step on the journey towards making peace with the fact that there AREN’T answers or guarantees. Even Mormonism was supposed to based on faith to begin with, ya know, that thing where you don’t actually know (!!) you just believe? Unfortunately even faith has fallen by the wayside and been long replaced by everybody bearing their testimonies and saying “they know” it’s true.

Also for biz alcohol yet there were martyrs who drank alcohol etc.. and you meet one family that appears to walk on water and then you meet other parts of the family and you're like wow way too much sweatpants... And then the no politics part and you find out that the son of the prophet address Congress, etc... Pretty soon you start to revel in the irony. For example, after I left my home and I was totally penniless in the small town of Eatonville, the most well known tweaker there helpe me find the food banks and was an enrolled Bahai...!! Oh the irony.. Yes, that's the same town where I was baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints on Eastern no less.. God be with you!! And then well when covid came around, and they're out of hand sanitizer, well looks like Jack Daniels Tennessee Bible belt whiskey worked just fine...

Here is my thinking, when polygamy becomes legal after the U.S. Supreme Court rules that that will so (which is going to happen in about 2 months from now) AND the LDS Church allows polygamist marriage for the first time in more than 150 years, I will invite the Shaytard Mom and her two daughters (when they are sufficiently grown up) to marry me AND also the female narrating this UA-cam video will be afforded that same opportunity. However I warn you don't wash my socks very often, and when I do I don't like a lot of soap in the washer because it gives me a rash... so there is that. Oh and another thing, I am over weight, not wealthy, I'm a bit of a tyrant and I slurp my soup like pretty much all of the time... slurp, slurp, slurp (yes I know that is going to get old really fast).
But I know a lot (and do mean a lot) of women in the LDS Church are going to want to get polygamist marriages because that means that Lesbbianism (only inside of marriage of course) is going to be allowed for the first time!!!
Yeah, polygamist wives can go on dates or do whatever together and of course do that (and we all know what THAT is) with each other as much as they want which is no longer going to be categorized as adultery anymore. So it really doesn't matter that I refuse to clip my toe nails as much as I should and I make strange noises when I use dental floss, women with women romantic relations is going to allowed on a massive scale so any woman that is into that, they can do that as long as they are married to a Mormon man, any Mormon man.
So what if I pick my nose in public and rub it in random people walking by including doing that at church services when I think no one is looking??? The wives can almost completely ignore the husband and spend their intensely romantic and physical relations time with each other. As long as I stay in my room and don't bite any of you (which might happen if I go on a chocolate bender... it can happen from time to time, I am human after all) there is a significant number of LDS women who will consider this arraignment with almost any Mormon man satisfactory to them.
Because they will get exactly what they want, which is a lot of fun fun fun. Certainly this kind of arraignment is not for the faint hearted or for those who are NOT females that are same gender attracted, but for those females that are [more frisky when it comes to wanting to be with their own gender in a physical way] the Mormon Church is going to become a whole lot more cool than it was before, for sure.
A lot of the same women that avoided the Latter Day Saint Church like a plague are going to come running from all around the world wherever they might happen to be. And I promise to stay in my room and not interfere with anything my future wives want to do... as long as they don't steal my clicker (T.V. channel changer) they can do whatever they want as long as it is inside the marriage covenant.
Plus they need to pay their own way because I'm sure not going to pay for their living expenses, no way that is happening. As long as they understand the ground rules then to quote the the song by the Beatles... we can work it out.
Don't believe that Polygamy is going to become legal??? Stay tuned because, yes it is, the Supreme Court is gearing up to do that very very soon (everything is being set in motion for that to happen). People should begin open their minds to future opportunities. Like the Stock Market it's best to be ahead of the curve, not constantly playing catch_up.
