Thanks so much, Luke. This was an excellent review, and you have a charming British accent. I am a long-time Catholic and look forward to seeing "Conclave." later this month. Ralph Fiennes certainly deserves an Oscar nomination if he is good in this movie. His talents have been overlooked for far too long. Thanks again!
I like the movie, especially Fiennes performance. I can see Fiennes winning, but not the movie. I also like that it admitted that popes have been flawed people in the past.I like the intent of being inclusive, but the ending no spoilers went a little far. The other negative was mainly that it took me awhile to figure out who was who and it was not as funny as I was expecting. I would not root for this to win, but I enjoyed it more than Dune 2 and Sing Sing.
It is absolutely possible that Isabella Rosellini will earn a best supporting actress nomination for "Conclave". Both Beatrice Straight and Dame Judi Dench won an Oscar for their indelible performances in "Network" and "Shakespeare in Love", which only lasted about 5 and 8 minutes.
@@user-CatherineDodd excellent point. Best supporting actress is also weirdly very open at this point so if conclave gains momentum I could defo see her making it in. X
Intriguing is a good way to describe it. It was a good story, but not over the top Oscar baiting material which I appreciated. I would love for Ralph Fiennes and Tucci to win for this, but if the Brutalist is over the top like the Academy loves, I can see Conclave being overlooked.
Everyone already knows who's gonna win in the categories in Oscars. Other awards shows need to stop being Oscar prediction awards.. Otherwise how can we feel excitement for Oscars? We need surprises like Olivia Colman win.. ❤❤
It's a very entertaining movie: a heavy-handed potboiler of a mystery, and there's a wonderful cast in campy gothic garb gliding around Vatican set pieces adorned like a bordello. As far as the Oscars go, these days the awards are just fodder for amateurish media speculation and UA-cam gossip.
Whenever anyone says ‘is it enough for a Supporting Actress nomination?’ it always makes me think of Anne Hathaway and Les Miserables. I’m a huge fan of Hathaway’s work, but she basically won a ton of awards that season for singing one song. Les Miserables is also far from her best work 😳
@@LukeHearfield true, but I’m not yet in a position to judge as there are a lot of expected awards player films I have yet to see. I follow your good self, Brian (The Awards Contender), The Oscar Expert and Ryan Casselman to gauge what these films are so I can make sure I don’t miss them when they come on general release. Keep up the good work 👍
@@LukeHearfield Makes sense, still do not think a lack of those things makes a movie boring though. Sometimes too much of any of those things makes a movie boring! Keep up the good work :)
This film is truly a godsend because its a breath of fresh air from the endless torrid of superhero movies. Conclave is what cinema should be.
It was FANTASTIC. I wanna see it again!
@@crowsandravens8998 yay! Glad you enjoyed it so much. I’m keen to see it again x
From the trailer alone you can tell that Isabella is commanding the screen.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Just saw it last night! Agreed noms across the board 🔥🔥

You had me at ‘long-time Catholic.’
I am so glad I watched this review…this movie sounds totally up my alley…will be seeing for sure!
Does John Lithgow have a chance of a Best Supporting Actor nomination?

Feinnes is on a certain island visitor list! So his chances of winning may be jeopardised!
If they don't play "Sadeness Part 1" by Enigma, we riot!
@@GareBare90 I’m gonna have to Spotify that one. Hahaha
@@LukeHearfield Wait, no! That makes me feel old! Hahaha!
the entire MCMXC a.D. album should be the soundtrack. 😁

This looks so good. I didn’t realise John Lithgow was in it as well.

Thank you for addressing the lulls
I don't know. I thought it was riveting through and through.
I feel like Brody , Finn’s are gonna split the season
I absolutely cannot wait to see this movie!!!

I was shocked that in the states this is rated pg so anyone can see it I’m like conclave has the same rating as wicked part 1
@@gabrielcastaneda9700 woah! It’s a pg in the states? That’s kinda crazy but also makes sense I guess x

What do you think it should be rated
Why does it take nudity, violence or language to engage people? That is sad!
