I immediately associate this song with my childhood and in my mind I see how we all run in from the yard into the house to see PF on TV. RIP David Cassidy
My favorite line has always been 'Danny got Rueben to sell our song'. That was Danny and Rueben's relationship in a nutshell-the smart aleck kid somehow always managing to manipulate the grown up Rueben LOL!
When I first watched this show in 1970 and then saw what they did to it in the 2nd season with a new Chris, new theme song and direction of the show (being that they had gone from a show where the group was always on the road to at home) all I could say was "What the heck happened"? Still some good tunes in the next couple of seasons but nowhere as psychedelic as the first season! That seems really strange doesn't it calling them a psychedelic band but listen to their 1st couple albums compared to the ones afterwards! I mean overall the 3rd album ("Songbook" is their best one) but the 1st 2 are the most psyched out!!
@@marshall8408 I'm sure all of those musicians were high on pot. On the show it was a bunch of kids but the actual musicians were a bunch of jaded session players who knew their way around a bong.
Me, I was only a baby when The Partridge Family premiered, but I did see reruns of it when I was a little kid and growing up(although I was more familiar with “Come on get happy”). So when I saw THIS rendition(from first season only), MY reaction was just the opposite, naturally, like “WHAT?! I thought Come on get happy was the opening theme!” Then much later when I realized this was the original, naturally I understood.
I have to admit though, there is something about this original rendition that makes it seem more spirited than Come on get happy, especially with “Danny got Reuben to sell our song..”
If Weird Al Yankovic sung it,it would say "Five young children started singing their song. Hoping that their mother would join right along" I'm not exactly Weird Al Yankovic, but if he sung the theme song,he would use that verse. I'm just saying!
@@Igaveyoumyfakename I tried to cover this song on a recording. Those lyrics are a mouthful. Back then, the Brady Bunch came first and the exposition was in the theme song. I think that's what they were going for, both ABC shows. I agree with you
Those are my all time favorite lines of this song! 'Danny got Reuben to sell our song'! ❤😁👍 That's why I love this version of the shows theme song, over the other one!
I like this version better. It sounds more natural and better to ME. Being the first version I heard and got used to. I like the vocal harmonies. It sounds more authentic, genuine to ME.
Yes. I like the opening to the second version a bit better but everything about the rest of this version is superior to #2. This really sounds like a late 60s/early 70s kind of song & recording, where the other version is a bit generic by comparison. The second version is a bit too "clean."
Because after the first season they reperformed the rythem tune but different lyrics and it was all because of a cast replacement. I mean come the end of the first season the cast member who played "Chris" Jeremy Galbwaks was replaced by Brian Forster.
Reuben Kincaid was such a great character! Dave Madden did an awesome job... just thinking about The Partridge Family makes me smile & brings back great memories. RIP.

This is My favorite Partridge family intro. The newer one has no soul. . I was 11 when this show premiered. I wasn’t a huge fan of the music or the show & I’ve only seen a few shows to be honest, but even so, the original 1970 intro was my favorite.
This is my favorite version - thanks for uploading! :) My favorite line has always been 'Danny got Reuben to sell our song' Lol! Danny was always such a pesk to Reuben! :D
That first year TPF followed "Nanny and the Professor", which in turn, followed "The Brady Bunch" at 7:30. TPF itself was followed by the last season of "That Girl" at 9:00.
Wow... brings back memories of the 70s.. a much more fun time than now. When TV was fun to watch instead of cringing and trying hard to find anything worthwhile to watch.
My grandma got me into this show and I was first introduced while it was using this song. I got used to this song for that month and then it changed to the other one.
Kids need to grow up watching this... I remember watching this when I was 7... which actually wasn’t that long ago, but still. I’d sit down with my grandparents and we’d watch it... we only had the first season, but we loved it. I wish there were more shows like this one.
This one in my opinion was always the best intro. It explained the history of the band. It’s less ‘produced’ & just has more, I don’t know…soul, for lack,of a better word.
Don’t forget Danny Bonaduce has also passed on. Hard yet easy to believe this September will mark the 50th anniversary of this wonderful sitcom. And last year marked the Brady Bunch’s 50th anniversary. Strangely enough both shows ended the same time, Saturday of Labor Day weekend 1974, 8/31/1974. I was five and just about to enter kindergarten when both shows closed their books.
I guess I was thinking of David Cassidy. And yes, I have heard that Danny Bonaduce is indeed still alive and well. Hey, as the old saying goes, “To err is human.”
One of my favorite shows along with The Brady Bunch in the 70's! I was fortunate to see both Shirley Jones and Susan Dey years ago while working at the Robinsons-May department store in Beverly Hills. Shirley, when she was married to the late Marty Ingalls, used to shop all the time at the store. Met Marty while in line at the Gift Wrap department... very funny. Susan was in the women's shoe department where I worked. Happy times while working in BH... lots of celebrities during the early 90s! 🤗
