That's why you ALWAYS ask for a speedy trial. They have to give you that. I beat 3 cases asking for speedy trial.

It would be ignorant for them to just be milking the people who's backing him of money because it's such a public case. People would call that 💩 out. More time means defense can craft better strategy and continue to look for loopholes .it also gives them a chance to figure out what this investigation on the lawyer is about. How the hell is that fair that he's basically telling melly that if it turns out that there is such a severe conflict of interest that his lawyers do not have his best interests in mind and he does not have adequate representation and is forced to hire new lawyers to represent him, that he will only have 7 months for his lawyers to prepare a defense for a capital punishment case? He's basically saying yeah if it turns out you have to get rid of your lawyers because they can't represent you without conflict then you're basically screwed as far as having enough time to prepare.
Which is not fair to the defendant at all and I think this would be grounds for a mistrial or definitely reversible on appeal.
@ you can’t have it both ways. The defense wants to complain about the length of the incarceration, so the judge makes the best effort to bring it back to trial. Then the defense complains, that’s not enough time. The defense is there to complain, anything short of a complete dismissal will not be good enough for the defense. Up until this last court hearing the defense was constantly complaining about the delay. Now they have a judge who is prioritizing going to trial, and now that’s not good enough. Melly can waive the conflict as the judge stated.
@ and I never said anything about fair. It’s not fair the victims family have to wait this long for an opportunity at justice. And the switching lawyers trick to delay trial has been tried by many defendants, according to what you are saying a good lawyer could find reasons to delay a trial indefinitely. Make no mistake, the defense gains from the delay as well, this is all defense strategy. You don’t pay lawyers what melly is paying, just to have them say, judge this isn’t fair….

It's because of the high paid defense team. They're paid to drag things out and explore every possible angle including hiring investigators with the sole purpose of incriminating the police investigators and prosecutors so that they can go after mistrials. In a capital murder trial in Florida, you want a defense team that can drag things out forever like this because the alternative is that you end up in the ground. They pretend to complain about him being in jail for years, but it's better than the alternative. His ability to pay this law firm with piles of money is the only thing keeping him alive.

As soon as the first mistrial happened they should have allowed him house arrest at the least. Two capital murder trials is expensive, he should be able to earn.
The delays are the point I think. They can't win so they keep him locked up as long as possible before dropping most if not all of the charges. I think that's the plan. I think he had something to do with it, but when you are this dirty people are gonna only see the injustice of keeping him locked up
They could make the case alot easier if they drop the death penalty. Would be a slam dunk case for the state. They have him at the scene and the text messages. Bullet holes from the car he left in showing it originated from the back seat. Just get alot harder to get the death penalty which is where the hold up is. If he was smart he would get a plea death to avoid the death penalty than try and fight for a case or parole.

@@dramawithdre No. She's been working with him for six years milking his money for her firm. Her job is to manipulate him to behave the way the defense teams wants so that he doesn't act out in court, and to keep him paying the bills. If he gets mad and stops paying the bills, her and the rest of the defense team would walk and he would have to find another or get stuck with a PD, a firm like that doesn't work for free.
