    So fresh and so clean. Making me want to completely restore my '69 big block I just got... and also making me fear what I don't know. Maybe someday, for now... just drive.

      It wasn't that clean when I purchased it. Just remember it is your car. Make it the way you want it but the most important thing is to enjoy the car when you work on it or drive it. Thanks for watching. Have a great day.

    When I replaced the valve guide seals on my '74 only 6 of the 16 valves had any seal left. All disintegrated. Made a big difference with no more blowing blue at startup.

      The frustrating thing for me is that the engine installed new valve guide seals in the engine when he rebuilt it. I think some of them have slipped off of the valve guide, so oil is leaking past them. I could get my camera into the exhaust ports and found that 3 of those guides were leaking. I was not able to check the intake guides. I am thinking of installing aluminum heads along with EFI this winter so that should take care of the problem. Thanks for the comment.

    They done a pretty good job on the engine. Looked nice. I wouldn't have a clue where to go from there, lol but it's neat to see how all that's done and how much work is involved with it. 😃

      If I can do it, anyone can. LOL If you come down I can teach you. Thanks for watching. Congratulations to Greg on his new adventure. I wish him luck and hope he enjoys the experience as much as I did.

    At least your heads are the " double- bump" variety that were usedon mostly high perf. engines like 327- 350 the 302 Z/28 and 69 350 hp also 70-72 LT-1's so its already a good start!!! even though I don't see any valve stem guide plates that were usually only on LT-1's

      I am not confident that the machine shop guy did a quality rework on the valves and guides. I am getting oil leaking past the guide seals. After the other issues I have suffered with this rebuild I think I will be better off installing aluminum heads.

    Another inspiring video and the engine look's great. Did you learn that air trick form those British guys on the motor trend channel (Wheeler Dealers)? I watched an episode where they replaced the valve seals on a 69 Vette and they used that method. The Vette looks great!

      I did not see that video. I first used the air method in 1979 on my 1977 Chrysler Cordova with the rich Corthian leather interior. LOL It was yellow which was the perfect color for the car because it was a lemon. I ended up having to pull the engine and rebuild it and when I got rid of the car the rear end was going out. Thanks for the kind words. Have a great day.

    My son and I are slowly redoing a 78.
    Our car isn’t numbers matching either.
    We just got the vintage air system and Dakota gauges installed.
    I look forward to watching and learning from your videos.

      I am getting ready to convert my gauges to white face because with my tinted windows and the black interior on sunny days it is hard to see the gauges. Someday I would like to replace them with Dakota gauges.
      I love my Vintage Air setup. It works so much better than the original AC.
      Good luck with your car. Having you and your son working on the car together, it will be special when you get it finished. Enjoy the journey.

      @@timewiththedurbins I’ll put that on my list. Did you hit the inside with that powder that’s supposed to make the oil run off and not wet them? Been down the rabbit hole of coatings. Lol.

    • @timewiththedurbins
      @timewiththedurbins  Рік тому

      I used wrinkle finish powder, so I did not coat the inside of the valve covers. I did not know they had a powder for that type of application. I will have to check into it. Thanks for the information.

      @@timewiththedurbins I know there’s a „non wetting“ coating for interior oil areas like connecting rods, bottoms of pistons, crank counter weights, lifter valley walls. Got me wondering if the rocker gallery and covers interiors might not benefit. Lol engineer over thinking …

      I have seen some brush on coating that work like that, but I don't think I have ever seen a powder coating for that. I will have to see if that is available.

      Cool, your near Corvette Generation. You're about an hour south of me. I just had surgery on my foot this week so I am out of the car for 5 weeks. Maybe when I'm back up to speed myself and Luis from 76Vette could come see your 79. Even though I can't drive the car right now I'm planning on installing the Vintage Air system in it while I'm down.

    I really TINK i make big mistake when i buy mi corvette .. Mechanic's ripped you .. I Recommend to have your own garage to fixed your self ..

    • @timewiththedurbins
      @timewiththedurbins  2 роки тому +1

      Luckily, I do have my own garage, but I cannot do engine machine work. I do regret not reassembling the motor myself. I have been having issues with it running correctly. I have had to change the intake gaskets because the guy used cheap gaskets and I think the cam is not timed properly with the crank, so I am going to have to pull the water pump and timing chain cover off to check the timing. This is the first time I have not reassembled an engine myself after having it machined and it will be the last. I have several valve stem seals leaking too.
