@@rentturtle I meant is there a part of the play where he was unnatural you could pinpoint? I thought he was very good. Also the earpiece thing is a common practice with acting. You can clearly see Judi Dench listening for her lines in all of her movies.
I've portrayed the role of Judge Hathorne in this play (albeit in another locale!). Is it my imagination, or is THIS "Hathorne" a female???? Further, at about the 49:00 mark, there should be much more emotion when Hale says "Damnation's doubled on a minister who counsels people to lie". Hathorne's next line should literally be shouted!!!! Hale's comeback should be equally loud! I'm not being critical of the actors, but this is something that the director should be responsible for managing. Just my opinion.

Well, he chose not to memorize his lines so they are being fed to him via an ear piece. It was a true disappointment for sure. Good luck.
