Sitting here listening to Pops has my mind turning….listening to him and knowing what he sees for our future broke my heart…but it also sparked a fire… that feeling that I cannot fail him. And I won’t. Power to my Brothas✊🏾🪶💯
I'm 36 years old, grew up in Mississippi... listening to him talk, reminds me of my grandfather.. as a lil boy i used to sit behind the house in that tool shed and listen to my grandfather tell stories just like this... he'd be drinking segram gin talking shit all day.. and I was right there for it, laughing and soaking up game... those were the days
This is powerful, as a thirty six year old black man. His words touched me even now. As man who was fortunate enough to have both parents growing up. His words remind me of father and uncle’s conversation we used to have
This man is a treasure..It's rare you see the elders from his era speak..Im happy you got this information out.. Interview him as much as possible fr..

Im a young white boy but ever since the first time i seen this dude i knew he was the truth. Nobody can be mad at anything he says cuz its the truth or at least the truth he's lived his whole life, he's just keeping it real. Thats why i fw him so much he tells the truth as it is simple as that.
It’s another side of his coin to brother. There are white men his age still alive. Running business, owning property and in Congress. People say racism don’t exist when it’s people still alive that were raised to be just that!!
@ericrobertson4243 that’s 50 Cent a rapper who’s known globally by all sorts of people why would it matter if he’s my profile pic? What’s that got to do with anything? how is me having 50 Cent (one of my favorite rappers) as my profile pic a problem or me not keeping it real? Aye man it’s okay if you don’t like white people, keep it real don’t beat around the bush n try to make me seem some type of way bc you feel some type of way about white people. You’re mad I have no problem with black people as a white boy, what’s the big deal? Do you think I’m supposed to hate black people or something? Would that be keeping it real? If I hated black people? Man you corny af learn some common sense homie.
Yes the only difference is The Old Man has Wisdom Charleston has ignorance. I used to like Charleston until he started disrespecting people who has passed on.
Great interview. I was locked in the entire time. I wish i had somebody i could talk to like this and just smoke a blunt and hear about history all day. One thing i took from this video, was to live in my own truth as i always have. I don’t judge and i try to help others around me. Hopefully when I’m gone, my spirit will be happy.
I grew up in Fort Worth on the Southside born in 1951. I went to James E. Guinn School 1-9. Paul L. Dunbar 10-12. There was segregation, but we Blacks had our own movie theaters The Grand, drug stores Flints, doctors Dr. Brooks, Barbershops Williams Barbers, swimming pools at Hillside park, cafes and bars The Chili Bowl, Drakes, Mrs. Browns, 21 Club, etc. Most of Black family lived in a home with both parents. The men work for the Texas & Pacific railroad, meat processing plant, cooks, porters, etc. Downtown stores were open to Blacks like Leonard's, but there was a White & Colored food sections, water fountains. Evans & Rosedale the red zone i.e., The Hickory Pit, drugs, prostitutes, gambling, conmen, hustlers & thieves. There was a teenage street gang name the Skid Row Bandits. I left in 1969 after high school served in the military. Went to Vietnam, remained in California after Honorable Discharged. Teenage music, pretty girls, sports, summers nights ...magical. The old folks keep the red zone away from kids, we had no idea that the shoeshine repair shop was a gambling/drug dealing place. Lol * Blacks had their own gas stations, cab stands, car repair garages, Dry cleaners, women dress makers, fish markets, integration destroyed all this.
These our elders are the rarest of our time I could just sit an listen ask questions an talk story I’m a 80 baby 40 now I love history of every kine much love big up much LOVE POPS thank you for sharing GAME All the way out in Oahu in little old town of HAUULA🔥🏝️🌱rare breed

Thank you both for this interview. I am a Black woman and have a deep desire to know my history. I searching for truth. I am grateful that Mr. Pops came and sat in front of the camera ❤

You are doing a great job when getting someone of that age and knowledge of history to speak out. Keep looking for others of age out there to share there life experiences
I’m from Chicago, & still live here. My mom is his age & was born, grew up, & her & my pops moved back to Dallas. I have a lot of people from Ft Worth, & Mosier Valley. They never told me about all of that, but I know it happened. That being said, I used to go there all the time in the 70’s especially 80’s. I always said that Dallas was a lot more integrated than Chicago.
Very powerful.Especially the comment about China almost owning the country but he said he don't believe in God but then said he is blessed.Blessed by whom?
I grew up around the Old Nigga Weasel. He was a Hustler. My Uncle Willie Scott was Involved with This Brother. They Had a Club Texas Nigga on Evans. Facts..
I was born in Fortworth and it was a little different for me because of my community I lived in Lake Como we were taught differently to work, get a education, or some trade and believe in God and he will direct thy path .And you know what” it works😊
Rico, I heard you speak about Job and the questions you had after reading that story. That means your mind is thirsty for knowledge. I had the same questions and I found these two historians on UA-cam and I brought many of their books. They opened my knowledge that I wouldn't had if I didn't find them. I recommend researching these two people (John Henrik Clarke, Yosef Ben-Jochannan),,,, At first it going to be hard comprehending what they say because what you been taught. Just research what they say and you will see if it facts.
I am my own hero. I love the people who have loved me, but the only man I truly know is me. Say what you will about me, when it’s all said and done I will be exactly the man I want to be. What is the measure of a man that someone else can tell me, I don’t know, but it don’t make it me. I live for something, and for something I will die. So let my death come, because I will not regret the life I have lived, there is nothing I can take with in death but what I have learned in life, and in life I learned what Love is. I learned first to Love myself, and after I learned to Love myself my eyes were completely opened, and I know what it is to live.
We're [the 'black' community] Job. We at one time had much substance, united families, health, etc. Now, all those things have been taken from us & we suffer. But through examining our condition like Job did talking with his friends he [us] will realize our shortcomings [current conditions in our communities] & rise above this low estate we're in to gain all that we lost & more, thru our faith in our higher power [Yah], ourselves & following the blueprint that was left to us in the Biblical & ancient writings plus the history we can draw from.
