Tip I've always used when making my Christmas cake later than I'd like and I don't have 3 days to properly soak the fruit, is to heat the fruit & liquid up on the stove. Only gently mind, you're just warming it up, not cooking it. As well as plumping up the fruit a surprising amount in a short time, it also reduces the liquid just a bit so what is absorbed if just a little more intense Edit: ah yes, you do mention this
Maybe just use the gingerbread man shaped pan for decoration around Christmas? If you put a 'fake' gingerbread man inside it, it would be a cute hanging wall ornament in the kitchen. And I always wanted to try making a traditional English Christmas cake with all the dried fruit and stuff. So this would be a fun crossover.
I bought this in a little wholefoods store, but I think I've seen it in other places alongside the jams or maybe with baking ingredients. The flavour is simply heavenly.
@@AtomicShrimp Our hypermarché has a bulk section in the organic products, where they sell candied ginger. I am in love with it - no mess for a nibble, to toss into tea, or chop up into a dessert.

As for the skillet, I think the reason it is more square is because they are using less material. If you look at a lot of other cast iron molds and skillets with very rounded areas, they have significantly more material on the walls. Cast iron tends to be more brittle than steel and wrought iron, so I imagine that the wall height is proportional to the radius you can have. Less iron would mean more straight sections and wider radii. So I think it is likely a shrinkflation situation. Disclaimer: I am not a material scientist or an engineer, though I have studied both at a university level many years ago, and still work in the manufacturing/fabrication sector. So I would say it is a somewhat educated guess rather than a complete stab in the dark.
after watching your first of these i acquired a tiny cast-iron pan myself! it's fun for a single sunny-side up egg for breakfast. i wonder why they say it's not compatible with induction stoves... which is what i use and it works great! EDIT: mine is not as shallow as this one though. which might give it an edge over these ones... quite literally.
Note with the bit about yeast being in the cupboard for too long; active dry yeast and I presume fast acting yeast can be frozen basically indefinitely. Not only does this make it so that the yeast basically never goes out of date, but it has the added benefit of adding just that little bit of coolness to make it less likely you accidentally kill your yeast with liquid that are too hot.
O hey I saw a super similar gingerbread man on sale in a Dutch shop this week. Seemed absolutely useless but I am still intrigued. Glad there's an in depth review 👀
Is it bad that the first thing I thought when you were cutting vents in the gingerbread creation was, “I hope he cuts them like angry eye slits so the steam could come out of his eyes ‘cause that would be cool.”
I’m so glad you did this as I’ve wanted one ever since you first did the mini skillet videos. Then, unknowingly, my niece bought me the cookie with M&Ms mini skillet for Christmas! I hope to try it today and then think of other things to use it with. May be Welsh cakes and also Scot Pancakes might work too.
Mike, I opened a pack of flour and had a smell and then opened the packet with the pan and the only difference on mine is it smells chocolatey, probably the chocolate chips inside. Whether that’s overpowering an off mix or whether you were unlucky or I’ve been lucky? May be I should weight the mix and just make my own. EDIT : tasted a pinch of the mix and could detect that pet shop thing you mentioned so decided not to use the mix and make my own. Plain flour, sugar, salt. Weight approx 2.25oz.
I think the word man is often used instead of human - gingerbread human. SImilarly how in some English you have postman, fireman, policeman and such. Probably just because of how it rolls of the tongue. Kind of off-topic, I find it interesting that in English language there's a difference between sex and gender, because in my language (Slovenian) we don't have a word for gender, we only have the one for sex, but our words are gendered, like glass is male and table is female, but also window is middle or neutral gender. I find this peculiar language properties quite fascinating!
You are right, the word Man began as the shortened version of Human. The original world for Man can still be found in the word Werewolf which means Wolf Man.

I have a little round pan like that which I use for toasting spices before grinding. It's a bit deeper though, and I imagine mustard seeds and some others would jump right out of yours.
May I share a tip. Use the back of the knife (instead of the blade) when scraping ingredients into a bowl. It keeps the blade from getting dull. Love. your videos.
So in conclusion it doesn't matter if its a cookie, a brownie, a cinnamon roll or a gingerbread abomination.. save your money or if its a gift.. get a voucher instead.. 🤣 keep up the great content. Thank-you for the variety of content you make. 😁👍
How about trying to make your own 'proper shaped' Gingerbread man pan from scratch? I reckon that would be a fascinating project, akin to your 'Cooking In Clay' series. I have one of those little round pans - I use it for toasting spices and nuts. Just the right size for me. If I liked coffee more, I might've been tempted to try roasting beans in it, too. Lovely relaxing video, as always - my weekend starts here! Thank you! 👌👌👌

I remember a lady made an interesting series about using a rudely shaped cake tin to make as many different shapes as she could think of, elephants, balloons etc . Just in case you have second thoughts on the gingerbread pan
im with you on buying nut halves instead of chopped. Store bought chopped nuts are never chopped fine enough for me so if ill have to chop them anyway ill just get the bigger, more versatile pieces.
You haven't had cinnamon rolls until you tried Schnecken. The ones I used to make were feather light and cooked individually in a muffin pan. It unfortunately was in my lost German cookbook so I no longer have the exact recipe.I think a sweet yeast roll recipe made into them should work,I think it was very similar in the basic dough.
I had a happy accident in the kitchen yesterday and only had condensed coconut milk for a katsu curry I was making, but the sweetness was gorgeous and the meal ended up being probably the best thing I've ever cooked 😄 I'm eating a blood orange rn with my coffee and chocolate 😋 😋 😋 😋
You've got so many different mixtures for bread doughs, but I work in schools and I often wonder what the best mixture for a good play-dough would be. You've got to think about how it feels to manipulate in its dough form and not how it might taste in a baked form. Often children will help create this play dough so something that can be mixed without using hot water is also preferred.
To be fair, I have 3 sets of sub-gram scales - 1 for weighing epoxy or silicone, and the two I bought for the Chesil beach gravel survey, and I hardly ever sell drugs.
15:28 I love a Chelsea bun!! I prefer them with raisins and cinnamon butter as usual but add syrup cherries. (Maraschino cherries.) but no walnuts… I can feel my tongue cracking already…
you could keep the gingerbread pan, and paint it to hang on a wall. Paint the outside, flip it upside down and it could be a clown, the feet being its hair, or a palm tree, the head being the tree's trunk......
Oh! and have you seen the Bree baking pans by gthe same company? also, I am curious as to where these are made? cast iron likely china, but did some EU company get them and put the stuff together to sell on the english market? obviously I should have waited to the end before commenting. Thank you for the info. Very surprising to me that the ingredients came from the USA, makes me wonder about the ownership of the corp.
Oh wow, another tiny skillet! I remember that video and thought it had potential, glad you found another one to tinker with, lol. That donut one could be interesting, make French toast, and fill the center with an egg, kind of like eggy bread.

Very, very well done Mr Shrimp. It must be quite a privilege to eat at the Atomic Shrimp Headquarters table. Thanks for sharing with us.
2:53 I read that as "disodium pyroprostate", which sounds like it'd hurt.
The Bob Ross of cooking....🎉🎉
wow... you greatly improved the nutritional content, fiber, protein and spice content.
Hai, Mr Atomic Shrimp!
would love to see you make the updated recipe :)
That's what I'm doing
Thank you! 👌👌👌
He made a 3/4 pan for his 750k subscriber special!
Hi there been watching your channel along while i really like hpw your channel gives me inspiration i would say your right about these kits you did but i like how you got creative and did something alittle different rather than just thrown the kits away or took them back too the store in which you purchased i thinks their more novelty really, really looks good and bet they tasted good too keep up your good work have you started any planting yet and will you be making videos about it look forward kind regards from Julie
Saw a heavily discounted tiny pancake pan and mix set in a shop recently, except the pan was impractically shaped like a squishmallow
I'd like to have a little cloud-shaped skillet. Too cute to go. ☁
Just checking to see how you are faring with Storm Eowyn. Hope you're all okay!!!
I had a happy accident in the kitchen yesterday and only had condensed coconut milk for a katsu curry I was making, but the sweetness was gorgeous and the meal ended up being probably the best thing I've ever cooked 😄
I'm eating a blood orange rn with my coffee and chocolate 😋 😋 😋 😋
A Christmas video in January? Love it! Also, it's very devo that the red cutting mat is gone
My goodness you are very inventive, it would never have occurred to me to marry the two!
1.42g dried yeast. Not many people have scales that measure in 100ths of a gram.
Yeah. Drug dealers.
@@AtomicShrimp we have the scales that are capable of measuring in mg. I'm not a dealer, I am a bio student :(
Coin collection probably qualifies as use of drugs too.
To be fair, I have 3 sets of sub-gram scales - 1 for weighing epoxy or silicone, and the two I bought for the Chesil beach gravel survey, and I hardly ever sell drugs.
Hardly ever! 😂
The key to melting butter in the microwave is to lower power and time longer. Finding that balance is key
15:28 I love a Chelsea bun!! I prefer them with raisins and cinnamon butter as usual but add syrup cherries. (Maraschino cherries.) but no walnuts… I can feel my tongue cracking already…
27:39 Perhaps it’s because I just watched your previous video of fossil hunting today, but those buns really look like ammonites… 😍
The ginger bread skillet, keep and hang over the fireplace....a talking topic with friends. "Say, that's novel?"
The gingerbread "person" .... has no arms! 😂😂
Literally blown away when I saw you open a can with the ring pull. Then the narration confirmed it
you could keep the gingerbread pan, and paint it to hang on a wall.
Well the little pan is useful for wild camping at least!
I think you're right about the universal shape of that pan by the way. Sure I've seen said variants
Oh wow, another tiny skillet! I remember that video and thought it had potential, glad you found another one to tinker with, lol. That donut one could be interesting, make French toast, and fill the center with an egg, kind of like eggy bread.
i cracked up when you gave the gingerbread man his 'smile'
I feel so hopeless, shrimpman you help me sleep❤
Is Eva’s birthday coming up? Upside down, the ginger-oops becomes a happy dog’s head holding a dream rock, featureless oblong Kevin, or an entire bolillo of toast tax.
