"Quirky" seems like the perfect concept for twice at this point. They're a bit too old and established as a group now for that bubbly, overly cutesy vibe, but they can still kinda lean into it in a tongue in cheek, almost ironic way? Have fun with it? Quirky and fun.
Yess, but that's making me worrying JYP is being too repetitive with their idol group's concepts. Itzy is the confident weirdos, Nmixx is the main advocates/fighters for everybody to be weird and express themselves. Now twice is the... self-acknowledge older weirdos...? Idk it feels repetitive
@@rhayesvaultdefinitely thought strategy felt too much like dalla dalla. It’s not the same but if you know they are both JYP groups they all kind of look the same. Like every comeback could be given to another jyp group and it would… fit. Maybe not as much musically but definitely visually

It is not honestly very mature to make songs around that subject. It is what just turned adults do. More mature people talk about real stuff and not immature vulgar and gross stuff.

I love how effortlessly sexy and fun the song is I feel like a lot of kpop groups feel like to have a sexy girl crush concept you have to take away the color which like if you look at western pop music that’s not true and twice mastered it with this songs it’s colorful it’s fun but you feel like the baddest bitch when listening to it such a good strut song and Meghan devoured let’s have more collabs like this.
Nicki Minaj in her Pink Friday era is a HUUUUGE example that sexy and cute is possible. It was so cute visually in every way and so were some lyrics and instrumentals in the album, but it was also straight to the point and naughty!
I was really disappointed when I saw they had a feature on the title track, one because of line distribution and two because it's rare the feature is even any good. My thoughts were exactly the same. Everyone is getting a chance to shine, Megan's lines are SO GOOD. Definitely sticking with listening to the Megan version. Often in kpop i don't like when the rap section of a song feels like it's just making an appearance because it has to, it feels like it was given all the space it needs here. I'm super impressed with this release. And now I'm gonna go listen to it again lol
Surprisingly I also found myself enjoying Megans part a whole ton. It really is a good collaboration! This is the first title track from Twice I truely enjoy since TTT. The whole album feels coherent and nice and ... like Twice! Can't put it in other words lol As a Once this comeback makes me very happy
I think kpop songs often HAVE to include rap verses, it's sorta a thing and has been for a while and it just feels like.... Filler words most of the time??? Whereas I genuinely enjoyed Meghan's verse here! It was so good!
something has been changing noticeably in division 3 for sure. we got a really heavy domestic promotion prior the comeback and they did not disappoint with the album visually and sonically. i dont have anything to say but this new strategy for twice is really interesting and WE ARE SO BACKKKKK ‼️
i think they’re trying to do what they wanted with the feels. my issue with the feels was that it felt like an artistic regression and really inauthentic whereas strategy feels really meaningful and in their ballpark
this is SUCH a satisfying comeback imo. I LOVED talk that talk and i feel like Strategy is back to that kind of sound. also the megan feature was done SO WELL
10/10... members of Twice. I honestly can't put my thoughts into words yet, but I'll try. Strategy is just perfection, and it makes me so happy. The idea they can't always be the most mature is a good point. I think Twice doesn't have to always be mature. I mean, Scientist is one of my personal favorite Twice songs. I'm more than okay with being playful. It's interesting though because this definitely applies to Megan's verse too. I think some people doubted it because it'd be a toned down Megan to suit Twice's image, but I think her verse was perfectly effective. There was no need for this song to be anything other than it was. It just makes me happy at the end of the day.
It was exactly what their last few (honestly forgettable) comebacks should've been: the sound being more mature and growing with their career all while still being unapologetically twice. Them getting one of my fav rappers on it was just the cherry on top
7:54 Megan works so well in this song and I’m not gonna get over it. Megan is still very much Megan but she also works with twice so well so this feels like a collab and not like many western collabs in kpop that be making one artist feel like they are the “Dj Khalid” of the song (if you understand what I mean)
As a non obsessed kpop fan Twice are honestly the best girl group imo. Perfect mixture of corporate and artistic production. They evolved their music and didn’t need to bounce around with aesthetics. Whoever is the mastermind behind them deserves their flowers!
No no you’re right and you should say it: Twice’s tenth member Megan Thee Stallion (You’re also so right about Strategy and the quirky concept but you already put my thoughts to words perfectly, again)
their outfits also just perfectly matched with the song. in their newer releases don’t get me wrong the outfits were good they were just missing something. but their outfits in the mv felt like older twice where they would sometimes be wearing some random things put together that somehow worked😭😭and the tracksuits are amazinggg
I’m so so obsessed with this song and Megan’s rap is so good. I keep singing “hey boy” and “left right left right” I love the 10 members of Twice. And the music video was EVERYTHING.
I don’t know why, but I just had such a good feeling when the teasers for this album started coming back. I had a feeling that Strategy was going to achieve the same thing that Talk That Talk did in the way that they both celebrate what originally made the world fall in love with Twice while still pushing the boundaries of what we expect Twice to do both musically and performance wise. I find what Jihyo said about constantly needing to be the most mature version of themselves really interesting and eye opening. There has been so much discussion around Twice with the idea of maturity that I feel holds them to unfair standards. I think Twice is one of the best examples of a group growing and evolving as they and their fans mature. The progression into eras like Fancy and Feel Special was so smooth and then they have continued to explore different musical styles and concepts all the way through to the present era. If that isn’t maturity I don’t know what is. Strategy is by far my favorite release from Twice since Talk That Talk. It has the infectious energy that Twice is famous for, but at the same time they are doing things musically that we have not seen from Twice before. I am so over the moon about how good this release is. It’s everything I hoped for and more. I appreciate the exploration that they ventured into with Set Me Free and One Spark, but as you said they didn’t really follow through with the concepts for these songs other than the goal of maturity and maturity isn’t really a concept. I really feel like they have landed onto their new sweet spot with Strategy. I actually feel like Strategy is kind of an evolved form of Yes or Yes. They both revolve around the idea of having a love interest that they’ve set their sights on and their plan is for their feelings to be reciprocated no matter what. In both songs they’re letting their target know that no matter what the only outcome is to fall in love with Twice. They also both start with the spoken phrase “hey boy” and they both have an almost identical formation where they form a straight line and then reveal one member. This formation is pretty iconic to Yes or Yes and I noticed it immediately when I saw the choreo. In Yes or Yes they reveal Mina and in strategy they reveal Chaeyoung. Hopefully someone reading this knows the formation I’m talking about. 😅 I believe that both of these little nods to Yes or Yes were very intentional as Twice loves to reference their previous eras. I am so glad that Twice is getting the recognition for this comeback that they have deserved this whole time. Twice and Megan brought us what I can tell is going to be one of the most iconic and memorable title tracks of their career. And knowing Twice we will get so much more iconic music and performances in the future. Sorry for the long essay hahahah. I love Twice so much and I am so excited for this amazing comeback and all that they have in store for us in the future.
Some other onces also noticed that one of the scenarios in the MV is basically "Twice Square" from the Yes or Yes MV so you are not along about Strategy being full of references to Yes or Yes. Definitely intentional and I love it
i don’t listen to megan thee stallion aside from hearing mamushi in public occasionally (good song btw) but i love her part so much. idk how to describe this as i’m not a rap listener so i am unfamiliar with the terms for describing her rapping abilities but her verses were very punchy, fun and energetic!! she was the best part of the song for me. no comments on the rest of the album as i have only listened to strategy so far
Megan collabs with pop artists always brings this feel you should check her discography, she does parts like this on her own too I think you're missing out!
Megan is an expert at features she's pulled a lot of fans just by doing verses on other people's songs and she always matches the vibe, she's very talented in her writing and she's been trying a lot of new flows since her new album Megan II
playful is what i’d describe it as; not too quirky to the point where it seems childish and too ‘trendy’ (e.g. i’d say ive’s baddie was a bad example), but not overly/unnecessary sexual or mature. the magazine visuals is chef’s kiss. generally classy and poised, but, magazine photography is also experimental at times! and megans verse paired with momo and chaeyoung’s support boosts that “i know i’m hot so i’ll do what i want” theme. gosh, i love a great comeback
Yes for sure, LIKE IT LIKE IT was so good, it feels like such a good tt for another album, BUT STRATEGY is superior, It is the perfect mix of their old and new sound. The MV is also Amazing like the whole song is 1,000,000. I think it's like in my top 10 tbh, #STRATEGYSOTY
I think the strategy without megan originally was gonna be a bside, but Chaeyoung said she wanted it to be the tt so they probably ask megan for a feature, because why would you have a popular artist collab be a bside?
God I wishhhh basics was promoted as a pre release or something 😭 same with rush. I agree w all your points here - feels like a great return to what we love from twice (I became a once in TTT era so this feels like a return to form). I hope this comeback is successful despite the HORRIBLE timing given the political mess in Korea 😭
Like it Like it would've fit well as a title track for With You-th since it lowkey reminds me of some of the b-sides in that album. But yeah, Strategy is just a more interesting song overall.
100% with everything. When With-Youth had come out, I could tell that Twice was gearing up for something fun, fresh, and exciting. The song, the rollout, the promotions all really felt like they incorporate little easter eggs of their former releases. It kinda feels like Strategy's screams "hey, we're still the same Twice." I think it was a great way to follow up the chapter in Twice's discography that With-Youth closed. Megan's verses on the album really bring the song to life and I'm glad she's able to show different sides of her artistry as well.
This song has been playing on loop in my head, since i first heard. I’ve genuinely never learned a songs lyrics so quickly before. Everyone involved ate down 10/10.
I think Strategy is what we've all been waiting for and manifesting and wishing for twice in their comebacks ever since Talk that Talk. It's cute, it's catchy, it's sexy and it's just SOO GOOD💖
I feel like Strategy is Talk that Talk's sister (and this is big praise from me as I'm a HUGE TTT fan). It's cute and fun but it's not *cutesy*, it's speaking from a more mature viewpoint but it's still lighthearted. While Twice is very popular with men their targeted audience in terms of the actual music, lyrics and concepts has always been female. They made music for young girls and teenagers, and since 2019 they've been making music for young women. We've grown up with them. So I feel like these two songs best encapsulate this idea that just because they and their audience are older, doesn't mean we can't have fun.
i think along with basics and moonlight sunrise, their department and a&r probably saw the virality of look at me making them see miami bass as a lucrative genre to adhere on the twice brand. i love how much their miami bass tracks through the years perfectly displays the maturity in sound just comparing look at me, basics, and keeper. keeper is absolutely my favourite in this album tipping basics crown a little bit too much😭 with kiss my troubles away, i feel the same way with you and i think it would be a very good idea for their department to make an 80s style aerobics workout video for it. the girls themselves dont have to be in it, it just has to have great choreography that everyone can replicate, and if they do it right thats another hit on their hands i feel like. especially with the substance currently being a big thing, that could be a really strong reference AND WHILE WERE ON THE TOPIC OF SPECIAL VIDEOS FOR BSIDES, they could very easily let the girls go on a little trip and film themselves with a digicam having fun for keeper, like ditto but outside school, very first love but just them 9 and lots of sapphic energy💀 idk i think they could lean in to the fact that keepers chorus sounds theyre singing “imma keep her”
articulated so much of what i liked abt strategy as a track and as an album as a whole. i've been thinking a lot over the last few days abt how thoroughly impressed i am with the strategy track's production, and how the feature feels like a genuine enhancement of the song. i spent half an hour yesterday raving abt the cowbells alone during chaeyoung's part that my friend had to tell me to shut up lol. anyway--i'm glad you spoke on the music production, but what i really appreciated was your insight on their concept. particularly, when you mentioned how a certain quirkiness to their music has sometimes been missing in their exploration of mature sounds, and that, "[strategy] has a narrative, and musically takes us on a journey." i have enjoyed all of twice's title tracks, musically (except more & more + dance the night away... i'm so sorry) (+ appropos of nothing, i wanna say that if ooh ahh hage has no fans i'm dead lmao). i think twice has such a listenable sound that is distinct, cohesive, and always makes me anticipate their releases. even the subunits and the solos. not to mention the charisma that the group has in spades that enhances the listening experience. they have a knack for always sounding new, and their catalogue has longevity because of its many variations. i think with you-th is a fantastic mini, and right now as it stands i like it more overall, musically, than the strategy mini, (rush! bloom! i got you! the flow of the album's track order makes for such a fun experience!) though i do expect my feelings will change as i spend more time with strategy. i enjoy one spark a lot sonically, but didn't feel anything in particular about the concept, or its acconpanying aesthetics. it seemed... neutral? stock? so i especially resonated with you saying, "my primary problem with one spark was how ambiguous it was in retrospect: a message so universal... to the point that the song in the end is actually about nothing in particular." all in all, thank you for your video, it really has given me new things to think about. ps. interesting, also, you throwing out the idea of basics as the title track for between 1&2. i love basics forever and ever. if i had to make a tierlist of twice's disocgraphy, it would get its own tier, and it would be the top tier. i find alternative title track thought exercises very difficult because title tracks are accompanied by visuals, wardrobes, choreography, promotion, a music video, and all of it creates a specific experience, that i couldn't honestly comment on basics' merit as a title track. but it is interesting to think abt, and i do think that basics is more distinct and specific than talk that talk, narrative-wise, which would have made it an interesting & fresh title track for the group. that being said, i have talk that talk as my current number 3 pick in my top 10 twice title track rankings, so. you know. i do love ttt. my biggest biggest gripe with b1&2 is not talk that talk, but the track order. i straight up think that whoever decided the track order for that mini should get fired. i seriously considered making my own playlist for the album so that i could rearrange the order. unfortunately, the purist in me has won and i continue to listen to it as it is, and i continue to get exceptionally mad when queen of hearts plays after ttt and before basics, when it absolutely shouldn't. my ps turned into a whole body of writing lol i'm sorry. i love that twice inspires me to talk in-depth abt their music. it's a great life to be a once.
Now we just need the next album to treat Jeongyeon as an actual lead vocalist bc 😭 I feel baited. I’m so glad Tzuyu got featured more, her confidence RADIATES
twices latest comebacks where... not , very twice and i think a bit too mature? , like i get the "rebrand " they where going for after ready to be. but STRATEGY!? its soooo TWICE!is a love song with exagerated themes and quirkiness related to a magazine! this is just what kpop needed , and this will bring twice back to their older recognition
am i the only one who genuinely liked with you-th and its singles 😕 i’ve been a once since heartshaker era and that ep is truly one of the very few that i don’t skip any song on. one spark and i got you complements each other very well-they’re both heartfelt and delicate yet to me they are earworms. the subject of the lyrics may be bland to others and i agree that it’s more suitable as the last song in their career type shi, but how the songs were structured and produced just scratches the right parts of my brain. even the ep as a whole is just a great journey to take-a soundtrack to a memorable roadtrip. with you-th *was* made with thoughtful intentions but i guess it was just so new and different for twice (not much quirkiness just like op said!), they were coming off a tour, and focused more on solos this year that ultimately i think made it more impactful in my room than others’.
JYP was kind of on fire this year… like the releases were really good tbh. For reference: we got FE304: Break and Stick Out from NMIXX; One Spark, DIVE, Haute Couture, two solos and Strategy from TWICE; Born To Be, Algorhythm and Gold from Itzy; Giant and Chk Chk Boom from Skz; Only One from Vcha… and the list goes on Bc there are still artists I don’t really follow (based on the other releases listed I bet they were also really freaking good). Ok enough of my company glazing- I was swamped with finals so taking a break by listening to the album was a nice change of pace. Strategy is a bop, the chorus has been stuck in my head for a while (Jeongyeon’s and Tzuyu’s “Winning is my trademark, soon you’ll never wanna leave,” real). The Bsides were amazing, Mariah Carey is taking a backseat this season because Magical is my Christmas song. Also I can’t believe how many members TWICE has in their group now: JYP, Megan Thee Stallion, Gingy from Shrek, the singer from Boys Like Girls who was on the remix of ICSM (like omg sleep with one eye open TripleS, TWICE is coming for you 👻/j).
Yes we need full chorus in kpop again….no nanana, body body , whiplash, repeptive shit the past girl group comebacks have been bland n repetitive jype girl groups are the ones bringing quality to PRODUCTION
They really hitting jackpot right there when they decided to make Strategy from b-side to title track instead! I really REALLY hope this is the direction TWICE is taking from now on! (I personally enjoy One Spark and don’t really get the hate but Strategy is indeed a much superior concept for TWICE!)
one spark might be my favorite title track and was my spotify wrapped top song.. idk just everything in this song worked for me really well :( i love that its emotional
In retrospect, I think one of the main reason why With YOU-th's release felt lacking is that their JYPE's resources and the TWICE member's schedule is still busy with the RTB world tour. If you look at the timelines, development and preparation for With YOU-th is right in the middle of the RTB world tour. Probably their support staff's divided between the tour and the release, while the members' schedule is divided between preparing to go overseas, album preparation, or just rest in general. You'll definitely notice it on Strategy's roll up as the members were on UA-cam shows left and right.
I absolutely loved the TT!! It has a familiar "bubbly cute TWICE" sound yet it's also fun, it has some mature tones and it's quite naughty! It's a solid English song and Meghan's feature was the cherry on top! I also love that some of the choreo was quite Meghan Thee Stallion coded??? LOVE LOVED IT. It also has similarities to Danity Kane's choreographies. Honestly, 'Strategy' reminds me of Danity Kane's song 'Showstopper' but more bubbly and cute!
having an actual rapper is what it made it cool to FIRE coz no, idc what anyone says. no one in the group could've rapped Megan's lines and made it good lol
When you said this is what this is what twice needed and that you're excited about it I got kind of emotional cause I think I feel similarly, I feel like they hit the nail on the head w this and that it feels intentional.
even if this song doesnt chart or get many streams im so happy its lovd by onces unlike withyouth and ready to be where there were mixed opinions. PLUS i love that were finally getting a twice album without a ballad at th end, like the album seems so mcuh more coherent than some of their other EPS and i love it!!!!
When I first heard the song I knew I liked it the instrumental was great and Meg's rap verse was amazing. On first listen it kind of shocked me. Because I always had this perception that the members aside from Nayeon, Jihyo and Jeongyeon. Have relatively softer voices. So seeing their voices in this type of song hadn't registered in my brain yet. But after a couple listens it just clicked. You see for many people I'm still a relatively new K-pop fan because I started listening to K-pop in late 2022. And my first twice song was talk that talk ( absolute banger). So it's not that I am so used to their cute concept that I can't conceptualize them in being mature. It's just that even after a shift in maturity in their concepts the voices were used arguably in a similar way just different lyrical content. So this shift was very interesting. I wasn't sure how to feel because I didn't have the words to explain it. I realized this was probably the twice song aside from fancy does the members have finally grown up. Even if have relatively softer voices they fully able to explore more genres and be able to fit themselves within a mold that they want to create for themselves. Strategy does exactly that. I want more time with the other songs on the album. I suppose it's been two years since I started listening K-pop and I've done a lot of growing up and I think in a sense seeing the differences between talk that talk and strategy shows how far I've come how far twice themselves have come. Maybe I wasn't sure about the song at first because I'm so used to something that I had to realize that we have we have both grown up. Even though I was quite aware that 2022 twice was mature already. I feel like I just had to listen to it a couple times to really reaffirm why I like this song. I enjoyed it a lot. I like their strategy.
8:10 OMG YOU'RE RIGHT?! It's been 3 years since we've had a double (Korean) comeback in a year!!! I'm so sooo happy with Strategy and the album UGGHHH the last time I've felt this hyped was Talk that Talk so i totally agree with your points!
7:53 I think what makes the most difference for me is that Megan Thee Stallion genuinely seems to be a fan of kpop. So, collaborations like this one aren’t just an “omg I’m such a fan 😍” moment for the kpop artist, but for Megan too.
I was very indifferent about Twice's releases until this bop dropped. I was gagging the entire time. What an amazing song. Megan's part blends soooo well with them. Amazing! I'm very pleased
I really loved this album, and it really looks like the strategy is working for twice. I am really hoping for twice to release a group comeback before any solo projects, cause i think they have gained lot of attention after this, and a comeback that follows this same theme and concept will really help twice to get even more into the US market. AND, about the title track, its probably the best one we have gotten since TTT, so im really happy
The one thing I noticed (and loved) about this album was the line distribution was fair. I love Nayeon and Jiyho but having them get most of the lines on past releases like Dive, etc. was definitely more noticeable. The balance and distribution this album makes it so each member and track gets to blend well.
if you are interested, i would love to see some kind of concept breakdown for ateez! i am an atiny but have been feeling disappointed with their recent albums. i want to know if anyone else feels some confusion about what they are doing right now. it is starting to feel like they are aiming more towards mainstream/new fans?
I loved how seamless Megan verse was on the track. it matched and aligned with the concept o well. something that never happened with any kpop release prior. all the rap verse felt forced and awkward but not this one. it was smooth and well done.
I'm just glad strategy was a bop! Even if it was a full english song and it had a feature, it still felt k-poppy/a twice song and megan didnt sound out of place. Also as a huge Once, one spark was kind of a letdown and I got a bit worried (love I Got You tho)
One spark and set me free was even more catchy than strategy but it started to feel a bit more like mass music and empty more that you listened to it..... But strategy is more hardcore song that grows on you and never leave you. AND JEONGYEON, JIHYO AND CHAEYOUNG AT THIS CONCEPT UP!!!!
Its like they had tp learn to try something new but slowly (yes or yes the bridge between WIL and Fancy) experiment to see what they like ot just to have fun then The Feels brought back to their thing but updated then they were clocked in and getting the bag and defining an image of just adult idol hence getting the stamp of cororate kpop on their conept log with their soloist putting in their roots. Now gibing us a level up and new landscape thats combined with the need of something new and the hype +budget from their touring yrs
My only problem is I just feel like at least 3 songs from this short album sound pretty much the same... I love basics but it felt like i'm listening to it on repeat 3 times and even after hearing the album multiple times i'm having trouble separating them >
"Quirky" seems like the perfect concept for twice at this point. They're a bit too old and established as a group now for that bubbly, overly cutesy vibe, but they can still kinda lean into it in a tongue in cheek, almost ironic way? Have fun with it? Quirky and fun.

The way you’re geeking while talking is the same way I geeked when I saw the music video 😭😭😭
The whole album feels coherent and nice and ... like Twice! Can't put it in other words lol
As a Once this comeback makes me very happy
I think kpop songs often HAVE to include rap verses, it's sorta a thing and has been for a while and it just feels like.... Filler words most of the time??? Whereas I genuinely enjoyed Meghan's verse here! It was so good!
something has been changing noticeably in division 3 for sure. we got a really heavy domestic promotion prior the comeback and they did not disappoint with the album visually and sonically. i dont have anything to say but this new strategy for twice is really interesting and WE ARE SO BACKKKKK ‼️
Cus twice asked for them
@@JungkooksWhore. the hell is that username
i think they’re trying to do what they wanted with the feels. my issue with the feels was that it felt like an artistic regression and really inauthentic whereas strategy feels really meaningful and in their ballpark
They really taking the whole “strategy” seriously and I’m here for it!
Twice is on their own new division that’s why
LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT DO IT TO THE BEAT 🗣🗣‼‼‼‼
this is SUCH a satisfying comeback imo.
I've been stanning twice for a really long time, they never disappointed
This was the kpopiest song of the year
Strategy along with Talk That Talk might be my favorites title tracks of Twice, i loveeeee the Quirky and fun concept
playful is what i’d describe it as; not too quirky to the point where it seems childish and too ‘trendy’ (e.g. i’d say ive’s baddie was a bad example), but not overly/unnecessary sexual or mature. the magazine visuals is chef’s kiss. generally classy and poised, but, magazine photography is also experimental at times! and megans verse paired with momo and chaeyoung’s support boosts that “i know i’m hot so i’ll do what i want” theme. gosh, i love a great comeback
omg and yes i loved basics for the SAME reasons
the fact that like it like it could’ve been the tt instead of strategy is crazy
Yes for sure, LIKE IT LIKE IT was so good, it feels like such a good tt for another album, BUT STRATEGY is superior, It is the perfect mix of their old and new sound. The MV is also Amazing like the whole song is 1,000,000. I think it's like in my top 10 tbh, #STRATEGYSOTY
Like it like it is my favorite bside for this album, I could've (somehow) seen it as a title track
It's cute, it's catchy, it's sexy and it's just SOO GOOD💖
Strategy, as an album, is soooo good. Haven’t stopped listening to it since it came out
I feel like Strategy is Talk that Talk's sister (and this is big praise from me as I'm a HUGE TTT fan).
YES EXACTLY
they are BACK back! onces are literally so spoiled! no matter how busy their schedules are, they never miss to serve us with a new comeback 🤍
We’re so back. The vibes the song the everything. Its so Twice😭😭😭
It's far from twice....
@@riazkhan8984 weird
@@riazkhan8984 only if you've listened to their discography with your ears closed would you think that
4:39 i saw somewhere that strategy wasn't originally the title track but twice fought for it!! i totally agree like you can tell they love this song 💗
i think along with basics and moonlight sunrise, their department and a&r probably saw the virality of look at me making them see miami bass as a lucrative genre to adhere on the twice brand. i love how much their miami bass tracks through the years perfectly displays the maturity in sound just comparing look at me, basics, and keeper. keeper is absolutely my favourite in this album tipping basics crown a little bit too much😭
with kiss my troubles away, i feel the same way with you and i think it would be a very good idea for their department to make an 80s style aerobics workout video for it. the girls themselves dont have to be in it, it just has to have great choreography that everyone can replicate, and if they do it right thats another hit on their hands i feel like. especially with the substance currently being a big thing, that could be a really strong reference
AND WHILE WERE ON THE TOPIC OF SPECIAL VIDEOS FOR BSIDES, they could very easily let the girls go on a little trip and film themselves with a digicam having fun for keeper, like ditto but outside school, very first love but just them 9 and lots of sapphic energy💀 idk i think they could lean in to the fact that keepers chorus sounds theyre singing “imma keep her”
Let's make a "The substance" edit with Kiss My Troubles Away as a background song 👀❤
7:22 now that I know magical is a Christmas song, it makes more sense
articulated so much of what i liked abt strategy as a track and as an album as a whole. i've been thinking a lot over the last few days abt how thoroughly impressed i am with the strategy track's production, and how the feature feels like a genuine enhancement of the song. i spent half an hour yesterday raving abt the cowbells alone during chaeyoung's part that my friend had to tell me to shut up lol.
anyway--i'm glad you spoke on the music production, but what i really appreciated was your insight on their concept. particularly, when you mentioned how a certain quirkiness to their music has sometimes been missing in their exploration of mature sounds, and that, "[strategy] has a narrative, and musically takes us on a journey."
i have enjoyed all of twice's title tracks, musically (except more & more + dance the night away... i'm so sorry) (+ appropos of nothing, i wanna say that if ooh ahh hage has no fans i'm dead lmao). i think twice has such a listenable sound that is distinct, cohesive, and always makes me anticipate their releases. even the subunits and the solos. not to mention the charisma that the group has in spades that enhances the listening experience. they have a knack for always sounding new, and their catalogue has longevity because of its many variations.
i think with you-th is a fantastic mini, and right now as it stands i like it more overall, musically, than the strategy mini, (rush! bloom! i got you! the flow of the album's track order makes for such a fun experience!) though i do expect my feelings will change as i spend more time with strategy.
i enjoy one spark a lot sonically, but didn't feel anything in particular about the concept, or its acconpanying aesthetics. it seemed... neutral? stock? so i especially resonated with you saying, "my primary problem with one spark was how ambiguous it was in retrospect: a message so universal... to the point that the song in the end is actually about nothing in particular."
all in all, thank you for your video, it really has given me new things to think about.
ps. interesting, also, you throwing out the idea of basics as the title track for between 1&2. i love basics forever and ever. if i had to make a tierlist of twice's disocgraphy, it would get its own tier, and it would be the top tier.
i find alternative title track thought exercises very difficult because title tracks are accompanied by visuals, wardrobes, choreography, promotion, a music video, and all of it creates a specific experience, that i couldn't honestly comment on basics' merit as a title track. but it is interesting to think abt, and i do think that basics is more distinct and specific than talk that talk, narrative-wise, which would have made it an interesting & fresh title track for the group.
that being said, i have talk that talk as my current number 3 pick in my top 10 twice title track rankings, so. you know. i do love ttt. my biggest biggest gripe with b1&2 is not talk that talk, but the track order. i straight up think that whoever decided the track order for that mini should get fired. i seriously considered making my own playlist for the album so that i could rearrange the order. unfortunately, the purist in me has won and i continue to listen to it as it is, and i continue to get exceptionally mad when queen of hearts plays after ttt and before basics, when it absolutely shouldn't.
my ps turned into a whole body of writing lol i'm sorry. i love that twice inspires me to talk in-depth abt their music. it's a great life to be a once.
Now we just need the next album to treat Jeongyeon as an actual lead vocalist bc 😭 I feel baited. I’m so glad Tzuyu got featured more, her confidence RADIATES
i'm so happy with this comeback, everything is just so perfect
twices latest comebacks where... not , very twice and i think a bit too mature? , like i get the "rebrand " they where going for after ready to be. but STRATEGY!? its soooo TWICE!is a love song with exagerated themes and quirkiness related to a magazine! this is just what kpop needed , and this will bring twice back to their older recognition
shiii I fw this HEAVYY. we are so fking backk. I really hope they got their recognition they deserve this time.
am i the only one who genuinely liked with you-th and its singles 😕 i’ve been a once since heartshaker era and that ep is truly one of the very few that i don’t skip any song on. one spark and i got you complements each other very well-they’re both heartfelt and delicate yet to me they are earworms. the subject of the lyrics may be bland to others and i agree that it’s more suitable as the last song in their career type shi, but how the songs were structured and produced just scratches the right parts of my brain. even the ep as a whole is just a great journey to take-a soundtrack to a memorable roadtrip. with you-th *was* made with thoughtful intentions but i guess it was just so new and different for twice (not much quirkiness just like op said!), they were coming off a tour, and focused more on solos this year that ultimately i think made it more impactful in my room than others’.
I looooooooove Rush! I need to relisten the ep
Also I can’t believe how many members TWICE has in their group now: JYP, Megan Thee Stallion, Gingy from Shrek, the singer from Boys Like Girls who was on the remix of ICSM (like omg sleep with one eye open TripleS, TWICE is coming for you 👻/j).
lauv and youngji too
Xdinary heroes day6
so true about NMIXX, I'm not a regular fan but I've been enjoying their releases lately. So glad Twice / div3 was able to follow that momentum
Yes we need full chorus in kpop again….no nanana, body body , whiplash, repeptive shit the past girl group comebacks have been bland n repetitive jype girl groups are the ones bringing quality to PRODUCTION
This song is so addictive. The prechorous and chaeyoung’s line at the end itch my brain in the perfect way
truly a STELLAR comeback omg
The shrek part might be answered when the special MV released (my guess it will be for the Magical b-side)
Im suspicious of Twice and Sabrina interactions it happens too often I feel like we will get them next year
They really hitting jackpot right there when they decided to make Strategy from b-side to title track instead!
This album was everything that I wanted from ready to be and with you-th. I felt like a new once again listening to this album.
Honestly rap is not even needed in a song but yeah megan is very good at rap and also she looks perfect with twice
This song and even album is what we needed! I’m so happy and proud
Oh you get it
Got pleasantly surprised that Magical was a full English track
I LOVE STRATEGY SO MUCH!! WE ARE SO BACK 😭🩷
This song is a hit, it’s catchy and fun to listen to. I missed their comebacks with that signature TWICE sound
i normally don’t like western features on kpop songs but meg absolutely killed it!!! she’s super versatile and she didn’t feel out of place at all!
needed to hear this TWICE glaze so badly. the abulm was SO GOOD.
This beyond phenomenal comeback slayed me
This is the twice ive been missing!!! It seems others feel the same way
The second i saw the strategy mv, i was like i need choujimi's thoughts on this, im pretty sure he'll love it lol
I lowk really liked One Spark and Set Me Free BUT I have to say I agree with your points! Great review!
The excitement in your voice is palpable and really fun to witness
8:10 OMG YOU'RE RIGHT?! It's been 3 years since we've had a double (Korean) comeback in a year!!! I'm so sooo happy with Strategy and the album UGGHHH the last time I've felt this hyped was Talk that Talk so i totally agree with your points!
7:53 I think what makes the most difference for me is that Megan Thee Stallion genuinely seems to be a fan of kpop. So, collaborations like this one aren’t just an “omg I’m such a fan 😍” moment for the kpop artist, but for Megan too.
I'm screaming for the meghan up to the last part, chef's kiss as always Twice
This is what I was looking for… I love Twice but the recent comebacks in the past year and a half just weren’t hitting it for me. This is perfection
if you are interested, i would love to see some kind of concept breakdown for ateez! i am an atiny but have been feeling disappointed with their recent albums. i want to know if anyone else feels some confusion about what they are doing right now. it is starting to feel like they are aiming more towards mainstream/new fans?
This made me listen to their music again.. specially since i love Megan the stallion!! The song is sooooo fun😭😭
I LOVED SO MUCH THE COMEBACK, but the saddest part is the onces, they don’t know how to stream, and we are only at 11M views 😢
Like it like it was my favorite song on the album, it’s so good and i definitely recommend everyone to listen to it
this was their best release since fancy imo - they've finally been able to combine their signature weirdness with their newfound maturity! go twice!!!
Fine, I’ll rewatch Strategy again!
i told myself if this song is good I'm gonna stan twice since I already stan misamo and now I love twice 😍
they really made a comeback with this one
strategy feels like it could be a perfect follow on from like ooh ahh
Great Content... Love the vdo through and through...❤
We won big with this one, thank you JYPapi 🙏
I love your videos so muchhhh. This is so amazing
Strategy is my favorite release from them since Formula of Love
My only problem is I just feel like at least 3 songs from this short album sound pretty much the same... I love basics but it felt like i'm listening to it on repeat 3 times and even after hearing the album multiple times i'm having trouble separating them >
1:58 Icon has come years ago to prove you wrong XD
i love them so much.
