I feel compelled to find all videos of this song and make some unnecessary and emotive comment.. I see so many such comments on this tune it makes me think of the masses passing through Egypt over the centuries, scrawling their names on the walls of the timeless pyramids just to latch on to that bit of magic and immortality. Judee, wherever you are, we are in awe.
A mystical exploration of the farthest reaches and potentialities of human emotion and connection, with all its deep complexities, beauty and unearthly power. A true work of inspired genius, and a tour de force of the highest order.
I had never heard this song until I listened to Heart Food a year or two ago. The Kiss immediately stood out as a song of uncommon beauty, exquisitely arranged. Then I found this solo version, and was just dumbstruck: how could it be *even better* than the record?? But for me, it is. This is up there with Eva Cassidy's Autumn Leaves as one of my favourite performances ever.
It's a crime that judee was not promoted as much as the other geffen artists of the time...Her story makes me want to cry yet at the same time i can take comfort in her wonderfull music...a rare talent.
Judee rendered poetic her lyrics with stunning clarity and emotional expression. She had a rare gift and it's sad that she was only able to share it with the world for a short time.
Love live versions like this way more than the record recording, simply for the fact that its just her singular voice as opposed to being doubled on the recording.
So beautiful so sincere and so heartbreaking. I love they way she sings without any affectation. It’s just about the words and the music. Her talent was phenomenal, and hopefully her music will stay accessible for future generations..
Stunning delivery and incredible sense of melody and song structure. The honesty, sincerity, solid pitch & direct delivery remind me of Karen Carpenter except Karen interpreted songs where as Judee wrote her own songs... Tragically underappreciated, another familiar sad story but we have this gift to appreciate!

It is really a beautiful song......I still remember Judee, when I was recording with my old mono taperecorder....LP's from the library......really Classy
I'm grateful to Mr. Peter Holsapple for his Facebook link to this radiant performance by this brilliant, tragic master artist. What amazing breath control to pull off all those reverse-envelope swells. Holy breath touchin' me like a wind song.
Fuck this song. I hate it so much because i know no one could make something as close to perfection as this. Besides i cant stop crying all the time while listening to it. Speaking of stendhal syndrome. D:
Well, I meant that artists were no more raw in the 60's than they are today. They also didn't use to avoid technology. I guess what I was challenging was the extrapolation you made from Judee Sill and/or the folk genre to the general status of the artists. Judee had been and still is an exception.
The Bronx prodigy, Laura Nyro, is also relatively unknown to the public. Listen to her 'Crazy Love' or 'Buy and Sell'. Her track 'Captain for Dark Mornings' is in Joni Mitchell's top ten ever. See Bette Midler induct Nyro into the Rock Hall of Fame in 2012. See Nyro raves by Elton John, Alice Cooper, Todd Rundgren, Billy Childs. I discovered her a few months ago and my mind is blown. Listen to 'December's Boudoir' for her incredible originality, way ahead of its time. She needs a few listens.
Let's not hijack a Judee Sill post by redirecting to Laura Nyro -- she's EXTREMELY well-known compared to Ms. Sill. They're both from roughly the same era (Ms. Nyro a little earlier), but Judee Sill has a directness and simplicity to her songwriting that Laura Nyro intentionally always seemed to want to avoid in favor of assymmetry and a kind of expository. "off-balance" writing.
The sad nova's dying kiss, so profound, maybe because I don't plan to be in this world much longer. Wish my loved ones could understand. They don't know a damn thing about what I've been through and don't give a damn
@@isakchristianisaksen9461 I am. In a much better frame of mind, thank you. Things are still hard but I am managing and aware that many others are in much worse conditions than I was and am. Thank you and Merry Christmas. Hoping 2021 will be a better year for everyone.
Unfortunately, you are wrong. Judee never knew success but false hopes and despair. She was never recognized mainstream, enjoying only the respect of her peers. She suffered from poor distribution as people assumed - somewhat rightfully - there is no "demand" for the emotions vehicled. She loved purity too much to know success. Also, technology allowed the audience to listen to folk music in high fidelity, be it outside or in one's living room. Low-fi outside concerts hurt many folkers. Peace.
She was born the same year as Townes Van Zandt, another tragic folk song writer of great genius. They both wrote songs that will be beautiful and relevant decades from now. When I think of what happened to music between "then' and "now", it makes me depressed. Listen to the crap that passes as "quality" music these days. It's awful. Songs like this are buried gems. I wonder how many others are out there that I've yet to discover. I'd rather spend my time searching for old masterpieces than spending even a minute listening to yet another inane pop song sung by another "it girl".
"The most beautiful song ever recorded." ~ Andy Partridge
It's the singer not the song
It's the singer and the song in this case.
Perfect. When you find something so perfect is almost unbearable and you can't help but cry.
I feel you. Just found the song today. It’s a divine utterance.
Normally I scoff at hyperbolic statements like this-cynical bastard that I am-but in this case . . . it’s not hyperbole.
@@GiacomoJimmi We cynical bastards are the best criers, when the time comes
@@stefanopiccagliani Judee slaps the cynicism out of all of us.
Simply beautiful from a much loved and missed singer. R I P Judee xxxx
Love, risin' from the mists
Promise me this and only this
Holy breath touchin' me
Like a wind song
Sweet communion of a kiss
Sun, siftin' thru the grey
Enter in, reach me with a ray
Silently swoopin' down
Just to show me
How to give my heart away
And once a crystal choir
Appeared while I was sleepin' and called my name
And when they came down nearer
Sayin', "Dyin' is done"
Then a new song was sung
Until somewhere we breathed as one
Stars, burstin' in the sky
Hear the sad nova's dyin' cry
Shimmerin' memory
Come and hold me
While you show me how to fly
Sun, siftin' thru the grey
Enter in, reach me with a ray
Silently swoopin' down
Just to show me
How to give my heart away
And lately sparklin' hosts
Come fill my dreams descendin' on fiery beams
I've seen 'em come clear down
Where our poor bodies lay
Soothe us gently and say
"Gonna wipe all your tears away"
Love risin' from the mists
Promise me this and only this
Holy breath touchin' me
Like a wind song
Sweet communion of a kiss

This performance always gets me. I think it is even better than the recording on her record. It is absolutely magical. Fills me with awe.
Judee Sill is a saint
Her vocals are beautiful live.

Honestly can’t think of a better 4 minutes & 39 seconds than this. Exceptional deeply haunting life support music from beyond the cosmos
Might be my favorite live music performance of all time. A beautiful song, and she is so sincere and focused.
Sorry judee, this world didn’t give to you what u deserve... but after 50 years we still listen your poems

Her song ‘Crayon Angels’ is absolutely divinely beautiful too, that one literally heals your soul.
What the fucking fuck?. God is this so beautiful. Just otherworldly. 😢
My God this is beautiful. Poor Judee had so much natural talent and beauty, a shame to waste it

Rather sublime stuff this - a bit tearful. Judee had a lot of pain both physical and spiritual, of course, her Jesus has taken all that away.
Gorgeous
