@TheOrangePanda Indeed, I have been to Vilnius and had a very good time. Beautiful clean Baroque centre surrounded by a sea of communist concrete. I stayed in Šeškinė, and spent a few days doing all the art galleries and museums. That, and lots of swing dancing, of course.
@TheOrangePanda After Swedes, this year, the most common nationality there was Lithuanian. Lots of good dancers from there. Great swing dance scene in Vilnius now.
@mumpfpuffel I was at one swing event at which TWO people were wearing T-shirts that said "There are 10 kinds of people in the world: those who understand binary and those who don't."
@MikaelDryden Fair few lakes in this area, which goes some way towards explaining the mosquitoes. The swing dance camps in Finland are smaller, though.
If you go driving in rural Norway, you'll often find sheep and cows crossing the roads because there are no fences. I usually encounter them in the middle of a blind corner. Fun stuff.
I'm the sprinter's leg one! Just because you got some fotage of myself in Herrang ( i didn't even take a picture) i'm going to talk to Ruta to try to convince her you are not all that bad! Again, big thanks for this awesome video!
This reminds me why I need to get back into swing-dancing, and why I've missed it so. Thanks for that. Thanks for the video chap, yet another masterpiece, in my never so humble opinion. Good luck with more.
@tylrfshr12 Difficult to square what you write with the evidence I have witnessed: many hundreds of young people having a riotously good time for weeks on end. There are swing dance camps in the USA, yes, and all round the world, but Herrang is the biggest and longest, and is something rather special.
Thank you Lindibeige for sharing this. I just realized that 100 years ago a lot of people in europe still had THE big war in their bones and more ugly things than corona stil to consider. We, on the other hand have beautiful and crazy things like this ongoing. Please never change that beautiful mind of yours and go on meet and show people like these. Greetings from Germany on the other side of the french...lovely people though.
I've been to Herräng more times than I could count because of my family's "mini yacht" being stationed there. It's incredibly close to the village where I live, Skebobruk, which you most certainly passed through on your way there.
Coming back to Lindybeige after many years. I'm delighted to see he's turned into something of a Simon Pegg/Eddie Izard/Monty Python of historical and social commentary.
@lindybeige and @nubxpro Aye, and there were plenty of Canadians that traveled all the way from Canada just for the Herrang experience this year too :P
I remember reading a bit about your trips to Sweden on your homepage. Guess what happened by the way: That building in Stockholm, the big ugly one that you didn't care for, it burned down a while back. ;)
i was going to yell at you in all caps for posting a video that had nothing to do with swords or crossbows or castles... but i seem to have misplaced my caps lock button... now where did i put it? :)
Maybe..just maybe one day I'll learn some more serious dancing. These "promotional" videos are somewhat working on me :D . I'm not a club person at all, but I love swing, so why not try swing dancing?
I think you will find these markings all over the world, where young men have acces to fast and powerful cars and motocycles. Step on the brakes while reving the engine in 1st or 2nd gear, and your car will dance with its rearend, as long it is RWD. If it's a front wheel driven car though, your in a lot of trouble with tourqe stear.
How strange and interesting, all the way up there in that far away place near Gräsö too. Far from government and central power since forever...Mine holes and mosquitoes go hand in hand.
A bit off topic perhaps, but I have noticed your appreciated for RPGs, Mr. Beige, so I will just advice you to take a look at myfarog. org. It's a fantasy RPG that certainly is made by a person who has seen most of your videos.
FLYING PANDAS if you work full time in Sweden the vast majority of people get a minimum of 4 weeks paid vacation, continuous, and as far as possible during the summer months.

they were harrangued into it online etymology of the word "harrangue" says this ; Old High German hring "circle" (see ring (n.1)) on the notion of "circular gathering," with an -a- inserted to ease Romanic pronunciation of Germanic hr- (compare hamper (n.1)). But Watkins and Barnhart suggest a Germanic compound, *harihring "circular gathering, assembly," literally " Maybe theres a long history to it ?
Or it could just be a combination name: "Herr" is the Swedish word for "Mister". Also a a pronoun for a upper class gentleman. "Äng" is just "field", specifically just a grassy field with no crops. So basically the name would be "The Field of Gentlemen" We usually combine words for village names. But I actually prefer your explaination...
Hmm. You were not allowed to film any of the cool stuff... and now the event is over and no one has any archival footage. Greed... so much greed. I wonder though where did gatherings like this go? It really is like the world died around 2012 ... cause so many things ended. The last decent TED talk was in 2012 as well ... hmm

I am Swedish and didn't even know of this! Thanks for the great videos Lindy :)
@MikaelDryden Fair few lakes in this area, which goes some way towards explaining the mosquitoes. The swing dance camps in Finland are smaller, though.
@MrDeadly25 In Britain we have herds of cows and sheep all over the place, so we need fences and hedges.
If you go driving in rural Norway, you'll often find sheep and cows crossing the roads because there are no fences. I usually encounter them in the middle of a blind corner. Fun stuff.
Excellent! Thank you for showing me something really wonderful. I didn't know...and now I do... Because of you.
I'm the sprinter's leg one! Just because you got some fotage of myself in Herrang ( i didn't even take a picture) i'm going to talk to Ruta to try to convince her you are not all that bad!
Again, big thanks for this awesome video!
@KuroNekoPL Swing weekend in Krakow later this year...
This reminds me why I need to get back into swing-dancing, and why I've missed it so. Thanks for that. Thanks for the video chap, yet another masterpiece, in my never so humble opinion. Good luck with more.
0:09 That was not a stop, but a start. B^]

Well, a new surprising addition to my bucket list. Thank you!

Pretty much every field in the land has a livestock-proof barrier of some sort around it.
@nubxpro I have an interview with a Canadian (living in Edinburgh, though).
@lindybeige same in New Zealand, although we also have vineyards as well
sounds like a fascinating place. I need to learn to swing dance!
@kikon78 I am of course terribly sorry and deeply ashamed. She will probably never forgive me.
Brilliant piece of editing and content Lloyd
@TimBlankJ They do beginners' lessons.
I've been to Herräng more times than I could count because of my family's "mini yacht" being stationed there. It's incredibly close to the village where I live, Skebobruk, which you most certainly passed through on your way there.
Great video Lloyd. Fantastic editing!!! :)
@mumpfpuffel That's why you didn't lose root-2 to the power of tau points.
Coming back to Lindybeige after many years. I'm delighted to see he's turned into something of a Simon Pegg/Eddie Izard/Monty Python of historical and social commentary.
@Roflcopter4b They haven't got me yet.
For those who don't live in Stockholm.
Yes you can take the local Stockholm County buses up to Herräng which is what he does in the Video.
5:22 Lindybeige not in a turned up beige collar.
That looks awesome.
No kidding. We stayed in the marina just about a month ago.
Saw a couple of people playing gypsy jazz guitar one boat. Coincidence..? Maybe
Good video & humour
Well done & thank you
@mumpfpuffel But wait! You have the wrong T-shirt! It is the "Stand back - I'm going to try SCIENCE!" shirt. Nerd-fail. Minus root-2 points.
I wouldn't mind visiting...
That Ikea you went past is in my home town.
2:04 Mexico?
Ooh, this looks exciting!
@lindybeige and @nubxpro
Aye, and there were plenty of Canadians that traveled all the way from Canada just for the Herrang experience this year too :P
Hey, i drove past there the other day.
Yay! You visited my little corner of the world! Well, not Herräng specifically, but Sweden.
This is one of the many things that makes me wish I could dance.
Looked a treat, amigo!
Got a summerhouse in Halstavik, which is near there.
Yeah, I live in Hallstavik :)
@2:55 is that Austin Brown from Home Free??
That was a fun vid that didn't seem too annoying, Lindybeige. ;)
Awesome!!!!!
I remember reading a bit about your trips to Sweden on your homepage. Guess what happened by the way: That building in Stockholm, the big ugly one that you didn't care for, it burned down a while back. ;)
3:52 Didn't know James Deen went to Herrang too. The ladies must have been quite pleased.
4:07 Harry Connick jr.
@zoh87 The do beginners' lessons.
You have fences everywhere in england?
Hey, you're still alive. What a shocker.
people go there to learn - it's the best place to begin!
@TheScandinavianOne Perhaps there IS a god...
I would love to go but I just can't dance :(
I was "Harranged" into watching this.
I think you'd be great for a travel show, kind of like what Stephen Fry did in the US.
i was going to yell at you in all caps for posting a video that had nothing to do with swords or crossbows or castles... but i seem to have misplaced my caps lock button... now where did i put it? :)
Hell this looks like Wisconsin, anywhere from Superior to Ashland.
Maybe..just maybe one day I'll learn some more serious dancing. These "promotional" videos are somewhat working on me :D . I'm not a club person at all, but I love swing, so why not try swing dancing?
The skidmarks are from a burnout. Atleast In Sweden, they're quite common.
The skidmarks weren't from stopping, they were from accelerating x)
+Jiří Vaněk Yes, I knew someone had to gotten this before me. :-D Lindy is obviously not a gearhead.
It's like the Pennsic war of swing dance.
Lloyd you made Ruta cry!!!! After that beautifull comment on the wall you got her crying...shame on you ;)
Yeah basically a FaisTesVacances but for Swing only ^^ Really nice vid, thanks!
Sweden: Dreamhack and swing dance.
4:06 Sep?
love it :)
So now we know where the 'Lindy' in Lindybeige comes from. Your an avid foot swinger!
I should really go to Europe one day.
@nubxpro Not true there were a whole pile of people from Canada! ;)
My grandfather made the birdhouse at 1:28.
Well there you go - we did! :))))
A bit of spontaneous dancing at 1:17, never hurt anyone :P
hmm i did not know this...are u from sweden?
Yeah, he has that really thick Swedish accent. Weird you didn't get that straight away.
colapundarn He's British as far as I know...
He totally sounds like British to me.
+whowantsabighug this is not a swedish accent.
@@whowantsabighug Swedes who speak English have better proper Queens English pronunciation than native Brits do usually.

Those markings on the road was done on purpose by a swedish teenager most likely. You find them everywhere in the Nordic countries
you need your own show man! what the hell are the BBC playing at?
How strange and interesting, all the way up there in that far away place near Gräsö too. Far from government and central power since forever...Mine holes and mosquitoes go hand in hand.
i'd like to play tunes there.
Very interesting .. too bad im not much of a dancer .. I'd go anyway though.
The reason the fields are not fenced is because they are used to grow crops and grass for hay
Looking forward to the rest of the footage.
That anyone living in THIS era would think those were 'stopping' skid marks... says volumes.
Yes, I can smell a Volvo...
*sniff sniff* you smell that? Smells like a 740.

Why don't these videos get more likes?
Damn do you europeans ever work? If not how do I emmigrate?
They have way better labor laws and stuff that allows them to take many days off of work a year for vacations.

shanes channel And what you find among the repondees are people without humor.
Minimum 25 days (5 weeks) of vacation by Swedish law.
i can't dance at all, but i would go for the music ;)
they were harrangued into it

Caden Firth
Ah la toilette .?
Le lavabo ?
le bidet ?
Ahhhh. Weeks on ends is a bit more excessive. Cool beans, man!
THEY COME FROM EVERYWHERE!
Everywhere but Canada...
You could have gone into the Archipelago and seen the decommissioned Cold War Coastal Batteries.
Yeay Sweden :D
Reeeeal Big
God, I think I know the trombone player!
3:11 LOL 2 dawgs
@lindybeige Bring your sword cane!
At 01:31 in the video:
*KITTER!!!!!!!*
{Yes, I AM a CAT PERSON...😊}
Being brought up in Herrängen, a suburb of Stockholm, I have just one thing to say......get another hobby!!
Hmm. You were not allowed to film any of the cool stuff... and now the event is over and no one has any archival footage.
Greed... so much greed.
