I went to school in the late 90’s. When a major incident occurred, clear/mesh see thru backpack were implemented. But since enough students DIDNT COMPLY, then the use of bags were forbidden during the school day. We had to carry it all and make frequent trips to our locker. Since it was prior to the smart device era..I used to play games on my gameboy color when appropriate.🤷‍♂️
Then Columbine happened and a bunch of fools around the city would make prank phone calls from the pay phones at the school and ruin the school day with the staff implementing safety measures and the police doing their investigations at various schools….then all the pay phones were removed. If you needed to make a call home, had to use the front office phone with permission.

They need to think of a better way to make it more efficient. Safety is important but so is getting an education. In high school we had metal detectors for like 2 weeks because of a rumor that someone from another school was going to go around shooting students. Note no shooting at that high school has ever happened to date. With the security I would end up missing half of first period and my high school has a small population compare to other schools like my graduating class was of 111 students.

When a teacher tried to take my phone they got threatened with legal action by my dad and his doctor. Also the phone i had at the time was government issued so there's that. But there might be other cases similar to mine and they need to have a policy for that or lawyers might go to extremes.

What could you possibly do in an actual emergency that dialing 911 couldn't be utilized for if it were a true emergency. The school will be notified like how its been done longer than you've been alive. Don't forget thers was a time before cell phones and you're not the first person to ever be someone's emergency contact so stop pretending like this would be some group breaking issue.

Do you want to end up like MSD HS or do you want it to be safe? I learned in the 1990s from that movie The Substitute that Florida schools are some of the worst and most violent in the nation. It's just a movie? No man, the 80s were actually like that and today is just like that too if you gotta have metal detectors.

It’s like they’re boarding a plane. It’s sad that it has come to this in society. It’s even sadder that students aren’t standing up to this crap. School shooters normally are outsiders not involved with the school. So what exactly will this stop. Not just this school but any school in general.

See when I was in school, I talked to my friend’s even while on the phone. I think this rule is just stupid. Phones not during class, okay, but any other time should be allowed. I use to draw on my tablet during class cause it helped me focus. Also I read a lot on my phone as well while taking notes. Not every kid is the same, it’s all about self control. Besides, what is there to really talk about with your friends, NOBODY is that interesting 😂 especially nowadays…

I think its okay for students with autism and other disability to have there phones incase if they have a sensory issue. the problem is with phones is when students are on there phones alot it makes it hard to study and when someone tries to talk to you and your don't listen it makes it hard as well to.

Plastic backpacks make it quicker. Cellphones finally. Make another entrance to take the strain. Yeah its an anoyance but ut is what it is and new policies do take time to become efficient. And yes I know what people will say about privacy and plastic backpacks. Cry me a river. All that is supposed to be in the bag is school supplies and a laptop which can be hidden in a laptop sleeve and for girl a small bag for their period things. That's all I've ever had in mine and even in hs my mother checked my bag randomly to ensure that was what was leaving. I used a plastic backpack for a semester while in a college in the US for a sememster course. My only issue was the 2 huge textbooks that would not fit in ANY bag, considerung they were each like 30lbs. But fortunately we were given both the pdf and the print book so I took the pdf and used the print at home.
