That's funny, I was just trying things out for Apocalyptic Burst myself. Found some other things but the most consistent one is knockback attack, light follow up, Ult. For some reason that just work, that same string also let's Meteor Explosion and Melee Darkness Rush work.
Not completely related to the video, but I’ve been having fun with my “raid boss namekian” and there’s something menacing about a tall namekian strutting through your ultimates and kicking the shit out of you. Apocalyptic Burst is a menacing ultimate to see coming at you.

Have you tried Justice blade? In my testing you can connect a fully charged apocalypse burst with it
