You are who Peter McKinnon failed to be as a photographer. He abandoned photography for product placement and you kept it all real! I appreciate you for that 100%!!!
Thank you for the kind words! Unfortunately that's probably also why he has 5M more subscribers than me 😂
@@Nateinthewild Hey Nate, just wanted to say; great instructional and easy to understand tutorial.. And it’s all about quality, not quantity. Thats where you come up trumps mate! Cheers, Sherome
Vote Nate for president of photography!!!
It's been exciting and informative following along with your career lately. Thanks for your respectful spreading of this knowledge in a very well-spoken manner.
Thank you for following along!
Thank you, Nate. You have a great teaching style and manner. I have watched a number of M.W. tutorials over the years, but I have gotten the most from yours today.
Love hearing that, Thomas! Happy to help.
Wonderful tips. My camera comes with a Starlight view mode to help with composition in pitch black situations, it's very useful.
Great introductory video to astrophotography. I have tried a little astrophotography before, with some fairly decent results. I use to follow the late Alyn Wallace, but he went far beyond what I would consider that I am competent at.
Thanks for sharing your experience. One thing I’ve stumbled into whilst learning to take long shutter speed images is to kill off any image-stabilising gizmos. It avoids what looks like shake even when you know there’s no source of it.
This is a good thing to keep an eye out for. Not all cameras struggle with this, but for the cameras that do it can be very frustrating to try and figure out!
Awesome video! Bright monitoring is also a great way to help compose your shots in a really dark environment. I feel like I may have learned that tip from some of Autumn's content. Made a huge difference for me! I'm going to have to try some higher ISO values. I've been a bit conservative apparently.
So good, Nate! Thanks for the lesson! I’m a newb with all of this and every shot I took with my sony of the Aurora a week and a half ago had blurry stars. lol. I had no idea what I was doing. Thankfully, the iPhone was able to grab a bunch of great shots. Now I can go practice with the milky way!!
Practice is really the only way to truly figure it out!
This was a super helpful guide, thanks! After shooting the aurora at 16mm f4 on my Fuji, I really want to get a superwide fast prime haha
It’s honestly such a great investment if you enjoy night sky photography!
First off great video! I love how you explain every part of the process and very easy to understand. I totally agree it doesn’t matter what gear you have. With that said the Nikon Z8 has light up button to make shooting astrophotography easier. 😉
When you are getting your composition turning up your iso helps then turn it down to take the shot.
Great video, and an all round awesome guy. Thank you 👍
Great video, you and Autumn are a huge inspiration! :)

Awesome video Nate. Just subscribed and looking forward to checking out your other videos
Thanks for a super helpful video. I would really appreciate it if you could do a video to explain the basics of how you edit the raw file to create the awesome final image!
Broooo, thanks! All the questions i had were answered fast and easy❤
This was awesome thanks man
Boom Nate , top stuff , appreciate this vid , cheers from NZ
Thanks Nate! Question for you. Do you use focus stacking or any tracking systems... or did you consider that beyond "Basics of ..." Thank you. This gives me actionable insight for the equipment that I currently have.
I definitely consider that WAY beyond "basics of" but those are definitely great options if you're trying to get more advanced! I think compositing a blue-hour foreground with a night sky from the same location is a great way to advance beyond the basics without getting too far into the weeds with stacking/blending/etc.
@@Nateinthewild I love that! Great future video idea? :D
Good stuff Maynard
Woohoo!! Thank you!
You got it!! What should I cover next?
Awesome tips Nate! I just took my first Milky Way shots in Patagonia but you had a few new tips and changes I will make for my next attempt! Thanks
Great video, planning to add a camera slider to my milky way timelapses. What slider length u think is the best for this?
How about lowering the brightness of your LCD screen at night? It's a lot easier for your eyes.
