This is a proof of Bidu Sayão's greatness. In my opinion, she was definitely the most interesting lyric soprano of the 30's and 40's. Such a light and small voice, but what she did with this instrument! Her amazing technique allowed her to colour the phrases and to use her vocal resources with the most sincere and touching expressivity. Besides, she had one of the most impeccable legato I ever heard.

This is the best perfomance of Mio Babbino Caro, in my opinion. She is sweet, beautiful, soft . I see in her the personification of Belcanto technique. She sings without any effort. Few singers achieve this perfection. I've seen none, but her!

But the air check (rehearsal) was so excellent, it was released too and is perfect. Her live duets with Bjorling are priceless, and her Mozart is flawless. The recording of Figaro from the 40's-with Pinza among others- is something to behold. She could sing every female role in that opera better than anyone else ever. mwr

Bidu Sayao, after hearing Sutherland's NY debut in “Beatrice di Tenda” at Town Hall, said, “If there is perfection in singing, this is it.” Bidu had heard most of the greatest opera singers of the 20th Century, herself being one of them. So I would say this is a great compliment to Dame Joan. I read this from the NY Times editorial of Dame Joan when she passed in 2010.

La música pop del antaño no se ganó su parte de los corazones del público taaaan heterogeneo con pianissimos, 'introspección' del canto y expresión filmográfica 'sutillll', sino con la música y voz. Quando a gente escuta "essas" vozes simplesmente faltam e sobram os adjetivos, simplesmente éstas cantantes no gênero lírico assim como outras em outros gêneros musicais foram abençoadas em forma dupla: com suas vozes MA RA VI LHO SAS e o dom da INTERPRETAÇÃO, logo disso, o que precisariamos adicionar!? tenho cinquenta e cinco anos e sou grato por ter vivido meus tempos de criança, adolescência, juventude e agora adulto ou velho pouco importa mas por ter sabido e saber o que são vozes de verdade sem equalização e sem "autotune" e saber discernir sobre música que merece levar esse nome e trash-music ou seja música lixo, e não falo exclusivamente da música erudita, não precissa curtir o gênero para saber diferenciar em cada gênero musical o que tem valor para a posteridade e o que vai sumir em um ou dois anos.

I'm from Romania but i never heard about this goddess BIDU SAYÃO. I'm proud Romania has a link with Bidu,as Bidu's first opera teacher was a Romanian soprano.Romanians should learn about her in school and listen her divine voice instead of so much modern crap.
