It has to be some fishlike creature to not represent something too harsh, so it wouldn't be a dragon. But the reason artists choose whales is that it compliments the sky so well. Whales are the largest creatures to roam the ocean. Alongside the sky... they're both enormous. The sky itself is beautiful. It's almost as if you could grab it, or it feels like it's a part of you.
