      may I ask your rating? Because when I tried it as a 1200-1300 rated player I always got the evans gambit. It just feels natural for this rating . That's why I stopped using it since I felt I wasn't playing chess ,just engine lines someone else prepared for me. On the one hand I haven't gain any rating the last 5-6 months on the other I have really really improved my endgame winning games out of completely drawn or losing positions.

    I suspect that his blunder was caused by being up so heavily that he stopped concentrating. I do that myself sometimes. Recently against a human I was up a full bishop early in the game, because my opponent had tried a sacrifice that didn't provide him any benefits. I knew all I had to do was trade down into the end game, so I turned off my concentration. I blundered the bishop lead away for no good reason other than overconfidence, and ended up with equal material in the end game. I still had a winning position (as far as queening) at that point, but I made a miscalculation with my king that enabled my opponent to queen one move before me.

    • @fredocarroll
      @fredocarroll 2 роки тому +8

      I don't know, because I see Antonio's point. I remember a game I had a couple months ago, with a string of blunders on my end. I wound up with no pieces, my opponent with a queen, a rook, and up several pawns, too. I won by flagging. I used his pawns as shields and held out just long enough. I think I had two seconds left when my opponent's time ran out. I felt a little dirty having done so. He was the better player, by far. I can't feel proud "beating" him. He was one move, two max, from checkmating me. I didn't want to give up, but I was whipped, fair and square. Why was he the one to lose points?

    Agadmator, have you checked out the Blackmar-Diemer Gambit? d4 d5, e4 de, Nc3 Nf6 f3. It does for d4 what the Evan's Gambit does for e4, and is easier to transpose into.

    • @DieFlabbergast
      @DieFlabbergast 2 роки тому

      The Evans Gambit has been played by some of the very strongest grandmasters (including Kasparov). By contrast, the Blackmar-Diemer Gambit is strictly for amateurs -- and mostly eccentrics at that. You'll have difficulty finding ANY game using this gambit by a grandmaster. Sure, you can win games with it against average club-level opponents, since average amateurs don't defend well. But against such opposition you can win games using almost any opening :)

    I’ve been playing the Evans gambit every chance I get as my main Italian line when the opponent doesn’t Berlin it (at 1400 elo the Berlin is not very drawish) and I found it surprisingly simple to understand where your attacking chances are.
    Opponent rarely wants to queenside and the Ba6 move is really dirty combined with the a strong center. I’ve won 15/19 games as an accepted Evans and 11/12 declined (b4, Bb6. -> a4, a6) which is such a forcing line with natural moves that I’m just crushing the midgames and it feels like freelo.
    I’ve been studying the bishop retreats mentioned and rapidly expanding on the kingside in declined games as the bishops slice the large diagonals if you can get the Ba6 move in.
    It is surprising how many fall for the cheesy stuff too since you’re sacking so many pawns and they try to keep it all together instead of giving stuff back to survive the attacks
