  • As you may recall, there was a fire in the transmission tunnel of my FD in its previous life. One of the casualties of that fire was the shifter. When I removed the shifter, I was shocked to find all of the plastic and rubber bushings had completely melted and disintegrated. I picked up all new parts (mostly from Atkins Rotary), cleaned the shifter thoroughly, applied some fresh paint (optional), and rebuilt the shifter. Before installing the shifter, I also took the time to clean out the shifter turret and replaced the gear oil.

Super interesting to see the crossover between marine aquarium hobbyists and Rotary ownership…. I’ve also got a 2’ reef tank and a 94 rx7 :)

I have too many expensive hobbies. I have a 200 gallon build planned, but have put it on hold to fund car parts.

I was wondering what kind of grease did you use for the bushings? Thanks

I don’t recall exactly, it was either green or dark gray. I would use any quality synthetic bearing grease.
