    Glad to see people actually do this together as a community to help each other out.... When I was a kid the neighbors used to get together to do this for each others gardens. Now-a-days... your hard pressed to find anyone who is willing to get off their lazy --- to commit to a neighbor.. more less to help contribute to a major job like this.

      You've got that right. It makes these kinds of events even more enjoyable knowing that there aren't many others willing to do this. People came from all over the U.S. and even Canada with their garden tractors to help out.

      Overall, we plowed a total of 95 acres in 2 days (17 hours) at this year's plow day, and there were 200 tractors out there plowing. It takes a long time but that's why it is fun. A typical-sized 50-75 HP farm tractor with a 3 bottom plow could probably cover all that ground in less than a day.

    Hey Michael how difficult and how did you install the hydrolic lift from the old manual lift? Did you find a guide or a manual or something

    • @MichaelTJD60
      @MichaelTJD60 6 років тому +1

      Here's the installation instructions. www.wfmfiles.com/download/2xx_Hydraulic_Lift_Installation_with_Template(BM16053_M83199).pdf
      I didn't think the swap was too difficult, but some of the parts weren't interchangeable because they came off an earlier model year and my tractor is a later one. The main pulley that mounts on the flywheel didn't fit my tractor so I had a machine shop do some work to make it fit. You'll have to move the coil to a different location so it clears the pump and hoses...I bolted mine to the battery box. Also, I'd recommend leaving the hoses attached the entire time, because it's much more difficult to hook them up after everything is mounted on the tractor. I had some difficulty removing the old lift lever because it was pressed into place and was seized up pretty good...so I just cut it off with a Sawzall.

    • @wildcard1494

      Ok I'm probably going to attempt installing electric lift on. I've found one off a non running 210

    • @MichaelTJD60
      @MichaelTJD60 6 років тому +1

      I would keep looking for hydraulic lift...the electric lift wasn't always known to be reliable. Some people had good luck with them but they were known to fail if used frequently (such as when plowing), or when lifting a heavy implement (like a blower or tiller).

      I usually watch every video all the way through. I don't care how long it is Lol. You don't get much done in a 10 min video like most people do. I thought you wanted to just get going and get the field done. Lol I did that a few times. I went almost full speed a few times just to see what she did.

    • @MichaelTJD60
      @MichaelTJD60 7 років тому

      Unfortunately my videos aren't the shortest. Sometimes I would pull up on the pedal to see if the belt would slip. Those belt drives will slow down quite a bit when you're pulling a plow behind them, they don't hold a constant speed as easy as the hydro's do.

    • @1990johndeere318
      @1990johndeere318 7 років тому +2

    • @MichaelTJD60
      @MichaelTJD60 6 років тому +1

      You might be able to build one but it would be difficult to find the correct-sized moldboard. If you have a tractor with a rear sleeve hitch installed, you can buy a good used Brinly plow for $125-150.

    • @mikeyb4642
      @mikeyb4642 6 років тому

      PSHAW, I'd be willing to bet you'd be able to make a lawn mower plow (that will do the job), like these, for under $100, likely under $50 if you're willing to learn a few things, if you have a torch and a welder. However, why plow when no-till is the thing to do in the breadbasket of our country. I monitor corn, soybean, and wheat fields for a living and it's interesting to see what "microfarmers" and people with small acreages want to do... Sure, turn it once for your garden, then mulch it heavy with mown grass to keep weeds down in future years. If you turn it every year, you destroy the soil texture and rearrange the fungi and microbes in the soil structure. Plowing has its uses, but they are few and far between where I operate in Nebraska. Don't underestimate the role microorganisms play in the yield you obtain (that's what my thesis for my master's is based upon, only in commercial agriculture).

    • @MichaelTJD60
      @MichaelTJD60 6 років тому

      We are doing this strictly for fun. It's a get-together for people who enjoy collecting and working on garden tractors as a hobby. Plowing is an ancient sport and it's nice to be able to do it with something as small as a garden tractor. Obviously, no-till is the more efficient way to do it these days, but there's nothing wrong with doing it old school. You'd have to find some pretty hefty cast iron (NOT steel except for the moldboard itself) if you wanted to build a plow that won't break apart. I've seen several cheap plow setups fail because either the tractor pulling them had too much power, or the tractor was not built to pull ground-engaging attachments (when someone tries using a regular lawn mower to do the work of a garden tractor). It's not worth rigging up a plow when you can buy an old heavy-duty Brinly plow for $150 or less.
