A cardinal aspect of life is making mistakes and then learning from those mistakes so that you don't repeat them. You're robbing your child of that learning experience if you infantilize them by going out of your way to help them beyond necessity.
True. Parents also need to talk to their children and be able to point out with their child how and why the child made the mistakes they did and to strategize with their child so they don't repeat their nistakes. That's why involved, aware parents are essential.
Before ever having listened to Jordan B. Peterson I never heard the word "proclivity". Now I have. It's a beautiful word. Thanks for that, Jordan, and for all the wisdom you convey.
It’s in the Harry Potter movie. I think the 8th one. “Proclivity” Professor M says a “Particular Proclivity for Pyrotechnics” 🧨 right??? Or am I wrong and misguided and wayward as the wind?
Especially since Peterson got his psychology training and degree from McGill, home of the infamous CIA brainwashing experiments conducted by Dr Ewan Cameron in the 40’s-60’s, I’d say he’s probably quite dangerous.
Well my first job experience away from home and my body wanted to go find a tree and hang itself (long story) but thank God I made a real friend there that made all the difference. I've got a lot of lost confidence back, am keen for another go challenge to grow and believe I can stand up for myself, my beliefs and my budding masculinity. Its about damn time too, LET'S GOO BOYSSSS!!!!
Whoever's reading this, i pray that whatever you're going through gets better and whatever you're struggling with or worrying about is going to be fine and that everyone has a fantastic day! Amen
And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
What exactly do you mean by "save them?" Are you operating from innate guilt that compels you to "save" your family? Does you family require your assistance? Are you doing things for your family that they should, and can, be doing for themselves? Are you violating your boundaries in "saving" your family? Does your family treat you well?
Compassion is reminding others that we are willing to help, but that we would be way happier to see them become strong enough to do it themselves, because we want the best for them. Something like ‘Don’t cut off the option of help, but remind them that it usually isn’t the best option.’ Made more friends in the last year doing that then I have my whole life. Ty Dr Peterson for that more than most revelations I have had listening to(and sometimes arguing in my head with a mental version of) you. From what I’ve observed they will take a nugget of help, a tiny confirmation that you were sincere. But then comes the real test. The test if you were sincere about letting THEM succeed. Because almost always, they immediately take off. Reinvigorated by the care shown, the have a new idea, so something better, or just…. Get it. Lol hard not to interfere for me there, I’m very over agreeable at times, but god it’s worth it. Because you’ve never seen a friend glow like they do when they demonstrate a new competence to someone who actually CARES.
@Aaron Holcombe I think you need to re-read my post. Doesn't seem like you understood what I said. I wasn't being critical of JP or his ideas. I was being critical of Olivia Wilde, who recently labeled him a "pseudo-intellectual"
Ancient words from an old man, wise in his day and with wide experience about human nature. A must reading for all. " Women, then, are only children of a larger growth; they have an entertaining tattle, and sometimes wit; but for solid reasoning, good sense, I never knew in my life one that had it, or who reasoned or acted consequentially for four-and-twenty hours together. " - Lord Chesterfield (1694-1773) 'Letters to His Son'
Having commercials continually cut in during the middle of your sentences is projecting an interesting message about how you feel about the importance of what you are saying. Like it or not it was your choice to allow.
I believe that our inate desire for a utopian society branches from a core memory of once having one, at the beginnings eden. And that those ,who as Dr. Peterson refers to as have high amounts of " agreeableness " and compassion, do so because of that deeply tapped into desire. In many ways it seems that they Want so much for it to come to be , that they will do and sacrifice anything they "believe" is a cost to succeed. But, this is just an opinion, what do u think.
I love this line of thought. It’s always been my opinion that liberalism really got a hold on this country when women started voting and I think this is the battle we are having right now. It won’t get better. Trust me.
I'm rapidly approaching 40 and still don't live on my own, never have. I don't want to, but feel like I _need_ to. I have never understood people when they said they were itching to get away from their parents.
I will be 35 soon. Moving away from my parents and having distance from them as a university students right after I graduated high school saved me. My life would be infinitely worse if I never moved out and didn't move in with my then fiance (now husband) after graduating. Has your family constantly criticized you and put you down growing up to make you think that you couldn't live on your own? Does your family inappropriately use you as a wallet? A listening ear and replacement adult?
I'm gonna repeat the same behaviour again and vote expecting a different result. I'm also gonna continue to join their corporations and fight their wars. I'm also gonna continue being a souless merchant claiming that I have no choice. I'm gonna do all this only after I clean my room.
I do believe in being a good mentor to your children though. You need to show children how to sow and reap, where to find the berries; and stay downwind of the deer 🦌 before you shoot the arrow. Otherwise teach a man how to fish 🎣. Don’t say, hey if you’re hungry there’s deer in the woods.
The thing about Jerdan that he has to stop doing is appearing as if he is extremely confident or maybe even overexaggerating, in a sense about data related to his opinions. He basically admits that the study was not repeated (so the same results have not replicated over and over again by other people way smarter than him or his student}, I'm not a statistician but it sounds like he claimed grounds for a correlation and not causation (basically said there was a strong link with political correctness and being female and agreeable) what was the sample size, what was the background of the women? I don't know for an intellectual he can be rather careless about how he presents positions. I'm not saying that he is not correct, but I am saying maybe not speak publicly that you have drawn such strong conclusions about something until there's at least 20 other studies lol. Scientists believe all the time the wrong thing and are so arrogant about it absolutely blows my mind. Some of the smartest people in the worlds for centuries have bickered about what humans should eat. I do see where Peterson is going with this as a lot of people that we think of being on the far right are men. However, in some Islamic countries honor killings are more often than one would guess, done by women. In some places these killings are done by 1/3 to 2/3rds of women. Most people would instinctively assume those activies are masculine and predominantly associated with men. I don't know I love Jordan, but I can also see why many people find him careless, arrogant, and therefore irritating.
@REM13 He is very careless in this video and that matters. Credibility is the most valuable asset someone has when a person wants to be taken seriously. It takes a lot to build trust and not a lot to break it. Trust me, slowly but surely this kind of " As long as he is attacking the right people no matter what he sacrifices to do it" approach will fail him and many others longterm.
It's easy to see it that way when you worked hard and actually got what you worked for like JP.... but when you worked hard and someone else stepped on your neck and stripped you of what you worked for, you might see it differently.
