Walter Isaacson is phenomenal biographer and Charlie Rose is a phenomenal interviewer and it's such pleasure to watch them both talk about the most important founding father of America - the one and only Benjamin Franklin.
Agree about Issacson but Rose tended to interrupt people and not always let them finish their response , as he demonstrated in this interview on several occasions. The book was excellent!
Benjamin Franklin was truly a genius, recognized as such at home and abroad, in his own time and still today. He dabbled in many things, but also mastered them-philosophy, electricity, diplomacy-and shaped his world and ours. (A historian noted, even Geniuses had down time, but my Franklin, he was always working on something new! )
I recognized Isaacson from his excellent appearances in various documentaries and was immensely happy it was him doing this 53 minute interview on Benjamin Franklin. Good shit
I have learned a lot with this viedo. I have enjoyed. Thank you for this amazing interview. Isaacson is an incredible author. And now after this interview, I admire more Ben Franklin. Gracias! Saludos de Medellín, Colombia!
Charlie has conducted this interview session by arranging the sets of questions exclusively, moreover, Walter Isaacson responded to all of them very politely and candidly ✌💎🥇
My friend (Jack Cassidy) was from Philadelphia, and told me that Franklin had not put any grease on his wheelbarrow and so it squeaked more and drew attention and thus raised attention and sold more newspapers.
Sadly Charlie bit someone's finger, and it is still hurting. I do miss this show, very much. This was a typically very good interview. I will likely get this book.
Great talk. There is only one thing that I would correct, and that is simply the opinion that slavery is a mark on the character of our founders. In my opinion, It is no more fair to say our founding fathers were morally suspect because of their stance on slavery than it would be for someone 200 years from now to say that every person who supported or was ambivalent toward abortion today has a mark on their moral character. We are all products of our time and place. It is not our right to judge someone in the past for doing what was commonly accepted not only here in the US but across the entire world.
Mr. Isaacson, Have a read The Apology recently? “… I am here, you cannot avoid executing me, for if I should be acquitted, your sons would practise the teachings of Socrates and all be thoroughly corrupted; if you said to me in this regard: “Socrates, we do not believe Anytus now; we acquit you, but only on condition that you spend no more time on this investigation and do not practise philosophy, and if you are caught doing so you will die.” I find this statement true. Спасибо. Sincerely, R.W.N II
Charlie Rose’s interruptions are particularly intrusive in his interview of Walter I. He more than finishes sentences! His ego and compulsive need to display his knowledge gets in the way of drawing out his interviewee! He seems not to understand his role,

It's so beautiful how passionate, clear and intricate all of these images and memories are coming from Isaacson. So damn nice. Damn.
Excellent and knowledgable interview worthy of praise.

Walter isn’t the best biographer, his style is very shallow and journalistic, imho.
Rose was good.
Fascinating conversation, history lesson at its best.

My friend (Jack Cassidy) was from Philadelphia, and told me that Franklin had not put any grease on his wheelbarrow and so it squeaked more and drew attention and thus raised attention and sold more newspapers.
Ingenious!
hell yes
Walter, I've become obsessed now too!! Thanks for uploading this.
I learned so much reading his BF book.
Benjamin Franklin! A beloved man, by many. History reflects this man fondly. Must have been his glasses. 🧐🤪🤩
Terrific discussion. Captivating.
Of All the Founding Fathers- Benjamin Franklin is the FUN one to read about. He simply does not weigh on you.
I miss Charlie Rose. Especially the bumper music 😂. Good information and interview.
Walter Issacson's Biography of Benjamin Franklin is Genius.
Sadly Charlie bit someone's finger, and it is still hurting. I do miss this show, very much. This was a typically very good interview. I will likely get this book.
How?

Elon musk is the new Benjamin Franklin. How awesome
Great book!
Mr. Isaacson,

Спасибо.

I loved Isaasons book on Steve Jobs. Is his Benjiman Franklin biography just as good?
Read them all
Yes.
I LOVE his Da Vinci book!
Franklin bio is amazing. I have read many bios and books about the Founders. This book really is the gold standard.
Compromisers don't make great heros but they do make great democracies.
29 min in.. you would do well to take note Donald J Trump.
thats if he bothered to take notes or even read.
Trump prevented war (North Korea)stopped the bleeding at southern border, got rid of NAFTA…. the BEST president we’ve had in present time.
27:05 what is relevant about Ben Franklin today

I consider Charlie Rose a great interviewer but a flawed man like John Lennon (who was a great songwriter but horrid to his first wife).
Rise had great guests, but I couldn’t stand the sound of his gratuitous laughter.

Oh wouldn't he put "sacred" back in if he could see wokeism now... haha
