@mikem957 Yes there are better teams in the SEC over others. Used to be Florida, Tennessee had a run in the 90's....my team Bama had a current run....Georgia is playing great now. That doesn't mean a fluke game might not pop up where everything goes bad for the more dominant team.

We need some of that luck next week. Tennessee has best offense in college football but the pass defense was a known issue. Clemson defense has kept them in all those close games and offensively they’re the opposite of Tennessee. They rush the ball which is Carolina’s main weakness point in defense.

They played spoiler and as a fan of college football that’s what makes the sport great, the only thing that makes me sick to my stomach about the game is we lost hendon hooker and the fact the defense had no answer whatsoever for South Carolina. Lots of questions for Tennessee this week and I’m excited and a bit nervous tbh to see how we handle this loss against a hot vandy team this Saturday. GO VOLS!!
The SC field was awful it looked like so many people going down to twisted ankles and such I don't think you should force people to play on a field like that and lose half your roster on either team to grounds like that. I know it couldn't be helped as far as getting it prepared after a tropical storm but still when that many kids go down on both sides you need to have the foresight to change the location to somewhere dryer. The outcome may have still been the same but I can bet we don't lose our QB either.
Tennessee looked so nice with that glass slipper on. Too bad they didn't get to wear it. Worst defensive performance I have ever seen in my entire life, at any level. Hooker is on the Mount Rushmore of Vol QB's and has been so fun to watch. I hope to get to cheer for him on Sundays.

As a Tennessee fan congrats to South Carolina they earned it. What made me the most mad from this game was that our defense talked smack all night while they were getting ABSOLUTELY WORKED. Just inexcusable.
I told my son at the start of the game that we are SC fans win or lose and we never say we will lose till the games over.A big part of that is the weird wins that happen sometimes. I didn't expect them to win, definitely hoped they would.
As a Tennessee fan who makes an effort to be practical about the program, I think the only "what if" is Heupel and his staff's ability to recruit defensive talent. As long as Heupel is the coach, he has the staff and ability to make an offense capable of high scores. That is an insane value to any college program. So you're right, it's not guaranteed that we'll be in that spot again. But you also admit that you think they can be. That's the most important part of it. Heupel and his staff's ability to draw up offensive schemes was the driving force that helped Tennessee over-achieve with the talent they have. Take care of recruiting on the defensive side (because offense sells itself), and that's the final step to have the foundation of a contending team every year.
Honestly Hooker was a great part of it. So many perfect throws he made it’s hard to replace him. South Carolina still looking for replacement for Connor Shaw and they’ve recruited all kinds of QBs in the past 8 years

That will B atmosphere was obviously taking a toll on the vols but mostly it comes down to performance, blocking out the noise for each team and much more of a nuanced perspective when evaluating ability. Far too much credit and blame are attached to coordinators and HCs imho..beautiful job coming close to our potential on the offensive side of the line

Went to my buddy's for a cookout about a month ago, both of us TN fans, and we were both like...man, I hope we don't play SC at night. Didn't expect that, though. Congrats to the gamecocks, though. This moment may not come again, but I've loved this season. If you're a college football fan and only happy when you're undefeated, you're going to be pretty miserable in life.

I grew up as a Gamecock fan from the Joe Morrison, Black Magic days. I have sat through all the lows and the highs throughout the years. I (knowing what we have talent wise with players and coaches) did not expect to lose. We were at home, and the fans have really bought in hard on our coach and players and it showed by the crowd. If we were to start strong and not flub a three and out, or a turnover immediately I figured we had a chance to win. To be fair, I never thought we could have beat them like we did. I also believe that if we had not of been embarrassed like we were in Florida we would not of seen the offense change to what we had seen last night. With baited breath I am waiting to see which team shows up in the upstate on Saturday. If the Shane train keeps rolling... The talk of the bowl game and next year will be something to behold.

Call it rose colored glasses, or whatever you want to imply, but I honestly don't see a team that can totally dominate us on every facet of the game. We can win against anyone. I never saw this one coming. I would have probably guessed 49-24 or 52-28 Tennessee. Games like this are why some fans should stop talking trash before games. When you act like a win or CFP appearance is a certainty, you may end up with egg on your face and a ton of people bumping your comments. Congrats to the Gamecocks! That was an impressive performance and a huge win for that coaching staff.
That’s not happening. Tennessee has great rush defense and Vandy is a run oriented offense which is what Carolina is too but our two RBs out was kind of a blessing in disguise for us coz the OC changed the whole game plan.
SEC east is back. West carried the SEC for a long time, but even our lower tier teams are building good and competitive programs, it's really good to see.

I am not a Tenn fan. I also understand the team had some distractions last week. There is almost a universal constant about winning football programs. The seniors rise up and become leaders and inspire the team. In all honesty, at least on paper Tenn was the better team going in. Until I am proven wrong I am going to place 100% of the blame for this loss on those Seniors, they did NOT step up. People that don't fully understand the real building blocks of a football team will never understand how important this is. I played HS football and I know this for a fact. Fantastic win against a (for 2022) lackluster Alabama team, the thing is you are a team and the coaching staff can only do so much. These Seniors fumbled the ball really bad!

As a Clemson fan, the game in Death Valley on Saturday just got more interesting. I will say, Carolina at home and at night is a COMPLETELY different team. I've never seen a team have two different faces the way they do. I'm thankful us Tiger fans have home field in this one. Tennessee had questions on defense all season long and South Carolina exposed them.
South Carolina finally did what we expected them to do from the start. So many Sunday players on the offense that were left standing around watching the ball go east to west in screens, as if Juice Wells, Jaheim Bell, Marshawn Lloyd, Josh Vann, Austin Stogner and Jalen Brooks aren't able to dunk on whoevers across the field. What Satterfield did this season is criminal, this is the most talent we've had on an offense in a decade and he butchered it calling screen after screen after screen. He got out of the way for one game to let the offense spank a mediocre defense. That's not enough to trust him to coordinate an offense in the sec. Satterfield has to go.
Lol that defense was horrible. Not taking anything from Rattler, but that defense was baaaaaad. 3rd and 20 to possibly start a momentum swing and massive fail on the same play twice in a row.... Wtf man! I'm so pissed! Gotta move on from this embarrassment. GO Vols!

For me, this boils down to one thing. Not rumors, not just bad play in the secondary. Why we have lost two games imo: 1. In every game we've won this season, we stacked the D line with 8 or more consistently all game in all the games we won. 2. In the two games we did not do this, we lost. On D the game scheme should have been the Mizzou game plan on D. Stack and bring heat to Rattler. We saw none of that last night and well, we lost. No one can tell me that Rattler coming into this game was even the passing threat Cook for Mizzou was. 3. Why didn't we ever attempt to adjust this at the line for the second half? Why didn't CJH insist Tim Banks do this at any point during the game? 4. If Tim Banks does not know or realize that this persistent scheme on D bringing more is why we've won 9 games, than I have serious issues with him remaining the DC. Eric, I would love to see you question this to CJH or Tim Banks. The issue above has been a big mystery why we haven't been consistent on the D line with how many we are bringing. It's like Jeremy Pruitt D with brining way too few way too much in those two losses and I don't believe in coincidences.
What this game confirmed is that South Carolina will be everybody's SEC East sleeper going into next season. Didn't work out too well for us this year though, or for Arkansas in the West.
Tennessee will probably be the East sleeper pick next season. We play UGA in Athens next season and we lost to three division teams this year. That doesn't demonstrate the kind of consistency that a division conference sleeper should have. Smart pundits will just pick UGA until someone beats them.

Our DB's were more concerned about running their mouth than covering or tackling anybody. That's what happens when you pamper these kids. I promise you if Rodney Garner was coaching these DB's they'd be men. He don't put up with BS on the defensive line.
It's been pretty obvious for a few weeks that Tennessee is basically 2021 Ohio State - insane offense paired with a defense that you can assume will give up anywhere between 35 and infinity against a good offense. Can they score enough to offset their defense in any given week? Twice, the answer has been no. Same for OSU last year.
I think given the nature if this blow out loss for my Vols you have to believe there ws something more going on then just out already exposed bad passing defense. The guys just didn't look interjected . They had not drive. We have all heard the rumors, and we don't know what's true and what's not. But something happened to kill team moral. It's really no excuse, they should have played through whatever happened. When it came down to putting "cleats in the ground" the Vols just were not in that game, and earned that blow out loss.

Saturday started out looking so good for the Vols with Michigan and TCU struggling to win, no one expected it would turn into such a nightmare day for them.
Still in disbelief about this game. Nothing adds up. Too much speculation/rumors with what happened in the Vols locker room to know what really happened. Only Tennessee would do this.. having their best season in over two decades, everyone in the country in agreement that we're back, playoffs on the line... and they lay an egg against an average South Carolina team with one of the worst offenses in the league.
I was waiting for the other shoe to drop but didn’t think it would be this bad. Definitely a program defining loss for Heupel. I hope the rumors about Jeremy Banks aren’t true, but we Tennessee fans are definitely not strangers to culture issues. And then to lose Hendon that way after everything he’s done for this program was just a sucker punch. This is longest I’ve made it into a season without full blown “battered Vol syndrome” but it’s back now and I’m sure it’s here to stay. Oh well. I anticipated 8-4, so the fact that 9-2 right now feels catastrophic means this season has had some pretty high peaks. Hopefully there’s more to come, but if not, it’s still only football. Just glad our players managed to get off the field without slapping any South Carolina students out of fear 😂
Tennessee’s defense was virtually nonexistent. The Vols simply didn’t show up for Georgia and the same thing happened against South Carolina. That’s a problem that has to be fixed. Congrats to the Gamecocks that was a serious beat down you put on the Vols.
I wonder on a scale of 1-10 how much of an impact the whole locker room situation that caused Jeremy Banks to sit out this game had on the result of this game. Maybe none but there’s a reason everyone is surprised by how this game went. Tennessees defense played so much worse than they normally do which isn’t great to begin with but it makes you wonder if that whole situation had a decent sized impact on this result.
If only they could have put it together against Mizzou and Florida. Sitting at 9-2 would be nice but some big wins this year. Would be considered a success if we could finish strong against Clemson.
I've always been a Gamecock fan and last night was an offense that is 100% different from anything we've seen in the past two years. None of us know what changes were made to playcalling, but whatever it was, worked. I still think we need to get rid of Satterfield, but depending on how the Clemson game goes, I'm worried it won't happen.
This was not expected. Having said that, we knew that the Vols defense was really really bad. Just didn’t know that the Gamecocks would be able to take advantage of it.

As a Tennessee fan congrats to South Carolina they earned it. What made me the most mad from this game was that our defense talked smack all night while they were getting ABSOLUTELY WORKED. Just inexcusable.
I told my son at the start of the game that we are SC fans win or lose and we never say we will lose till the games over.A big part of that is the weird wins that happen sometimes.
I didn't expect them to win, definitely hoped they would.

Rattler has like one good game per year. This was that game.
As a Tennessee fan who makes an effort to be practical about the program, I think the only "what if" is Heupel and his staff's ability to recruit defensive talent. As long as Heupel is the coach, he has the staff and ability to make an offense capable of high scores. That is an insane value to any college program. So you're right, it's not guaranteed that we'll be in that spot again. But you also admit that you think they can be. That's the most important part of it. Heupel and his staff's ability to draw up offensive schemes was the driving force that helped Tennessee over-achieve with the talent they have. Take care of recruiting on the defensive side (because offense sells itself), and that's the final step to have the foundation of a contending team every year.

Honestly Hooker was a great part of it. So many perfect throws he made it’s hard to replace him. South Carolina still looking for replacement for Connor Shaw and they’ve recruited all kinds of QBs in the past 8 years
@@trenton7 Hooker was amazing, but it's mostly a well ran system. I expect Milton to put up similar numbers vs Vandy. But obviously that doesn't translate to a win.

That will B atmosphere was obviously taking a toll on the vols but mostly it comes down to performance, blocking out the noise for each team and much more of a nuanced perspective when evaluating ability. Far too much credit and blame are attached to coordinators and HCs imho..beautiful job coming close to our potential on the offensive side of the line
Carolina alum here, and you're absolutely right. None of us had us pegged as winning this game. The victory came out of left field. That said, we Carolina fans are going to enjoy the heck out of it and revel in the victory for as long and hard as we can since we don't know how long it's going to be until we get another victory like this.

Went to my buddy's for a cookout about a month ago, both of us TN fans, and we were both like...man, I hope we don't play SC at night. Didn't expect that, though. Congrats to the gamecocks, though. This moment may not come again, but I've loved this season. If you're a college football fan and only happy when you're undefeated, you're going to be pretty miserable in life.

I grew up as a Gamecock fan from the Joe Morrison, Black Magic days. I have sat through all the lows and the highs throughout the years. I (knowing what we have talent wise with players and coaches) did not expect to lose. We were at home, and the fans have really bought in hard on our coach and players and it showed by the crowd. If we were to start strong and not flub a three and out, or a turnover immediately I figured we had a chance to win. To be fair, I never thought we could have beat them like we did. I also believe that if we had not of been embarrassed like we were in Florida we would not of seen the offense change to what we had seen last night. With baited breath I am waiting to see which team shows up in the upstate on Saturday. If the Shane train keeps rolling... The talk of the bowl game and next year will be something to behold.

Call it rose colored glasses, or whatever you want to imply, but I honestly don't see a team that can totally dominate us on every facet of the game. We can win against anyone. We can't dominate everyone... To me, there is a difference.

Any long time SC fan that says they were expecting to win this game is lying. We have been so inconsistent. We never know which team will show up week to week. I was shocked and speechless watching this dismantling of UT!!! I was also afraid of how this might affect what happens at Clemson next week. Will THIS team show up, or will there be an emotional let-down that comes after such an unexpected HUGE win like this? We will see in a few days. I think we can take Clemson down this year, but if the Florida Gamecocks go to Clemson instead of the UT Gamecocks...
I never saw this one coming. I would have probably guessed 49-24 or 52-28 Tennessee. Games like this are why some fans should stop talking trash before games. When you act like a win or CFP appearance is a certainty, you may end up with egg on your face and a ton of people bumping your comments.

That’s not happening. Tennessee has great rush defense and Vandy is a run oriented offense which is what Carolina is too but our two RBs out was kind of a blessing in disguise for us coz the OC changed the whole game plan.

I am not a Tenn fan. I also understand the team had some distractions last week. There is almost a universal constant about winning football programs. The seniors rise up and become leaders and inspire the team. In all honesty, at least on paper Tenn was the better team going in. Until I am proven wrong I am going to place 100% of the blame for this loss on those Seniors, they did NOT step up. People that don't fully understand the real building blocks of a football team will never understand how important this is. I played HS football and I know this for a fact. Fantastic win against a (for 2022) lackluster Alabama team, the thing is you are a team and the coaching staff can only do so much. These Seniors fumbled the ball really bad!

As a Clemson fan, the game in Death Valley on Saturday just got more interesting. I will say, Carolina at home and at night is a COMPLETELY different team. I've never seen a team have two different faces the way they do. I'm thankful us Tiger fans have home field in this one. Tennessee had questions on defense all season long and South Carolina exposed them.

South Carolina finally did what we expected them to do from the start. So many Sunday players on the offense that were left standing around watching the ball go east to west in screens, as if Juice Wells, Jaheim Bell, Marshawn Lloyd, Josh Vann, Austin Stogner and Jalen Brooks aren't able to dunk on whoevers across the field. What Satterfield did this season is criminal, this is the most talent we've had on an offense in a decade and he butchered it calling screen after screen after screen.
He got out of the way for one game to let the offense spank a mediocre defense. That's not enough to trust him to coordinate an offense in the sec. Satterfield has to go.

For me, this boils down to one thing. Not rumors, not just bad play in the secondary.
Why we have lost two games imo:
1. In every game we've won this season, we stacked the D line with 8 or more consistently all game in all the games we won.
2. In the two games we did not do this, we lost. On D the game scheme should have been the Mizzou game plan on D. Stack and bring heat to Rattler. We saw none of that last night and well, we lost. No one can tell me that Rattler coming into this game was even the passing threat Cook for Mizzou was.
3. Why didn't we ever attempt to adjust this at the line for the second half? Why didn't CJH insist Tim Banks do this at any point during the game?
4. If Tim Banks does not know or realize that this persistent scheme on D bringing more is why we've won 9 games, than I have serious issues with him remaining the DC.
Eric, I would love to see you question this to CJH or Tim Banks. The issue above has been a big mystery why we haven't been consistent on the D line with how many we are bringing. It's like Jeremy Pruitt D with brining way too few way too much in those two losses and I don't believe in coincidences.
Just wait for 2025 bro, or even 2024/2023. We'll be #1 with a good defense.

They definitely have a shot. They are playing with confidence and the Vawls may come into that game deflated.
What this game confirmed is that South Carolina will be everybody's SEC East sleeper going into next season. Didn't work out too well for us this year though, or for Arkansas in the West.
Tennessee will probably be the East sleeper pick next season. We play UGA in Athens next season and we lost to three division teams this year. That doesn't demonstrate the kind of consistency that a division conference sleeper should have. Smart pundits will just pick UGA until someone beats them.

Our DB's were more concerned about running their mouth than covering or tackling anybody. That's what happens when you pamper these kids. I promise you if Rodney Garner was coaching these DB's they'd be men. He don't put up with BS on the defensive line.
It's been pretty obvious for a few weeks that Tennessee is basically 2021 Ohio State - insane offense paired with a defense that you can assume will give up anywhere between 35 and infinity against a good offense. Can they score enough to offset their defense in any given week? Twice, the answer has been no. Same for OSU last year.
I think given the nature if this blow out loss for my Vols you have to believe there ws something more going on then just out already exposed bad passing defense. The guys just didn't look interjected . They had not drive. We have all heard the rumors, and we don't know what's true and what's not. But something happened to kill team moral. It's really no excuse, they should have played through whatever happened. When it came down to putting "cleats in the ground" the Vols just were not in that game, and earned that blow out loss.
I hate any player gets hurt..and an ACL takes time to recover..that sucks...great season Tennessee had and what a game for South Carolina...but still love my DAWGS!!!

Saturday started out looking so good for the Vols with Michigan and TCU struggling to win, no one expected it would turn into such a nightmare day for them.
Still in disbelief about this game. Nothing adds up. Too much speculation/rumors with what happened in the Vols locker room to know what really happened. Only Tennessee would do this.. having their best season in over two decades, everyone in the country in agreement that we're back, playoffs on the line... and they lay an egg against an average South Carolina team with one of the worst offenses in the league.
But make S.C. look good while doing so 😮😮
I was waiting for the other shoe to drop but didn’t think it would be this bad. Definitely a program defining loss for Heupel. I hope the rumors about Jeremy Banks aren’t true, but we Tennessee fans are definitely not strangers to culture issues.
And then to lose Hendon that way after everything he’s done for this program was just a sucker punch. This is longest I’ve made it into a season without full blown “battered Vol syndrome” but it’s back now and I’m sure it’s here to stay. Oh well. I anticipated 8-4, so the fact that 9-2 right now feels catastrophic means this season has had some pretty high peaks. Hopefully there’s more to come, but if not, it’s still only football. Just glad our players managed to get off the field without slapping any South Carolina students out of fear 😂

Tennessee’s defense was virtually nonexistent. The Vols simply didn’t show up for Georgia and the same thing happened against South Carolina. That’s a problem that has to be fixed. Congrats to the Gamecocks that was a serious beat down you put on the Vols.

I wonder on a scale of 1-10 how much of an impact the whole locker room situation that caused Jeremy Banks to sit out this game had on the result of this game. Maybe none but there’s a reason everyone is surprised by how this game went. Tennessees defense played so much worse than they normally do which isn’t great to begin with but it makes you wonder if that whole situation had a decent sized impact on this result.
If only they could have put it together against Mizzou and Florida. Sitting at 9-2 would be nice but some big wins this year. Would be considered a success if we could finish strong against Clemson.
Yeah honestly if you take 50 percent of this performance to any of those games you win them both.

I've always been a Gamecock fan and last night was an offense that is 100% different from anything we've seen in the past two years. None of us know what changes were made to playcalling, but whatever it was, worked. I still think we need to get rid of Satterfield, but depending on how the Clemson game goes, I'm worried it won't happen.

Vols defense has been bad all year. This game didn't surprise me. If you don't have a stellar and sound defense you can't get the trophy.
