we watched this game on holiday in a bar called alcatraz in calella, spain, half reds half blues and just before linekers goal the TV switched and we got the tour de france for about 10 mins when the match finally came back on we were 1-0 down and the blue fans went crazy, credit due though at the final whistle both supporters were singing together, i was 10, with mum,dad and sisters, sun was shining everyone tears of joy 1986 will forever be dear to me, i miss you mum xxx
He won it for Liverpool with his dribbling and passing. I'm a neutral but the pass to Ian Rush and the first goal is one I will long remember. Liverpool were always able in the hurly burly of the 80's with the fast pace and lack of space, to remain calm and create gaps and angles. A sign of good coaching I think.
i think he agreed going to Juventus to play alongside Michel Platini who is a good passer from midfield. but Platini retired just before Ian was due to join Juventus and he was starved of the passes from midfield.
Craig Johnston scored Liverpools first goal too, ball was definitely not over the line from Rush. The third goal by Rush was one of the best FA cup final goals.
The first goal conceded by Everton was just awful. Stevens gives a horrible, sloppy pass, then Mountfield gets nut megged whilst Ratcliffe gets drawn towards the ball leaving a huge gap for Rush to run in to. Completely avoidable goal and I agree Johnston defo got the final touch.
I wanted King Kenny to score so badly that day. It would have been a crowing glory on a World Class career. The only footballer to be king in 2 grounds in 2 countries
Me too - I was there. Travelled down (up actually, I was working in Chatham at the time) in the morning, ticketless. Met a buddy at Euston and set off to get me a ticket. Not a sniff (except for a couple of roided up cockney touts armed with an equally roided up rottweiler) things started turning a bit nasty, dog got excited, cockneys produced a couple of previously hidden telescopic truncheons and police were soon on it to break any 'transaction' from being completed. I was bereft. Couldn't even get through the first of me four cans of ale. Decided to go down to the coach park - made sense - early bird and all that. No luck after countless enquiries, then... A portly, well dressed, middle aged German took interest in my plea. £50 bought me a £6 terrace ticket. I was elated! The fucker still had three more tickets in his wallet! This was hard work - two years earlier for the Milk Cup final a simple slide of a fiver to the gateman got me entry. But that's another story.
I recorded the whole thing on Vcr as I had my cousins Birthday party to go to.I was 9.We was acting like we were coming back from Wembley after on the way home could wait to watch that game LINEKER VS HANSEN WAS A CLASSIC
@@andymacfaul2852 That's probably overstating it a bit. Everton dominated the game up until Liverpool went 2-1 up but from then on the game became more end to end. You could always sense the game wasn't going to end 2-1. It was just a question of whether it was gonna go 3-1 or 2-2.
Yeah I remember that, they loved shots like that back then, shots like when the ball went into the camera etc, can't remember who it was but remember when the ball went into the ) bit in the goal net in one match, they kept showing that...

I live in Sweden, but am visiting Liverpool to see Liverpool vs Southampton tomorrow. Just bought Liverpool’s 1985-86 retro kit in an official store. Can’t wait to visit Anfield for the first time!
I was at this final. Quite a few of us Reds in the Everton end that day. All happy and jovial when Everton were leading. Once we equalised and subsequently scored two more a few Toffees started a bit of trouble. In my opinion this was probably the game where the traditional mixing of the fans first went out the window for the Merseyside Derby. Only a very, very small minority of Everton fans I stress were angry at losing the game and vented their frustration at those Reds present in the Everton end. Last lot of years the Merseyside Derby has lost all it's "friendly derby" reputation and it is very rare to see fans mix together now! Sad, but a sign of the times
Hahaha imagine some fella just sat on the roof of Wembley at a cup final now. They’d have the terrorism squad out and the game called off. I’m not saying they were better, but things certainly used to be a lot simpler.
@@mcharris5200 Looked reasonably trim after his stint in jail but otherwise rather plump! Always technically brilliant though, with his passing and shooting.
I had a Kop season ticket - that only cost £67.00 and my dad and I hadn't missed a home game since 1978. However, only one of our season tickets qualified for a cup final ticket and I was devastated not to be going. Then, on the night before the final, my uncle turned up with two final tickets that he'd obtained while doing a job for former LFC player - Geoff Strong. The tickets cost £6.00 each and the Wembley-special train down to Wembley cost £8.00 each. The train was packed with both sets of fans and the atmosphere was magic. I'll always remember an Evertonian guy with a ghetto-blaster playing 'it's a kind of magic' by Queen - over and over again.
I would have to agree. Liverpool seemed dead and buried and Everton yes creating chances. I was sulking because I was convinced that Liverpool would lose. I always felt that the inciden. Between Brucie and Jim Beglín was the spark that woke Liverpool up.
I was Red my Girl was Blue ... we were behind the goal on the left, a commentator mentioned us outside Wembley when the teams were coming in ... I was in Red, she was in Blue on my shoulders!.

A great memory. I never saw a football match at Wembley, only went there for the World Speedway final in ‘81. It was a fantastic atmosphere from a special place. The shadows on the pitch here create so many memories of great games. 1966, cup final in ‘71 etc. The distant haze from one end of the stadium to the other, all very nostalgic. From what friends have said, the new Wembley is not the same neither are the cup finals really, although inside the old one it was very old and in need of a revamp. .....Life goes on though.
I don’t understand your assertion that Everton would have won if Southall had been in goal. Mimms did nothing wrong. And it’s not as though Rush ever had difficulty scoring goals past Southall. (Not a comment on Southall, who for several years was a superb goalkeeper.)

He didn't stay long though!

Questioned about his home sickness whilst in Italy, Rush quipped "It's like living in a foreign country." lol
