Someone from india said on some social media video that during the movie most of the cheers were on the scenes when female characters were treated by ranvijay more than the action scenes.. most females felt bad and uncomfortable watching it .. what else is glorification when people are defending the problematic themes.

That experience of watching the movie (being surrounded by people who have intrinsic misogynist values) might have justified the negative reaction of the people who do not have those values, however Amna watched it by herself and does not have the misogynistic values within her, which is why she did not find those scenes unacceptable.

@@Sana-t5z5gexcept that animals are a million times better they show inter species compassion too, we as humans are often capable of much evil!Look at the violent zionist committing genocide with our western governments and other country’s leaders supporting it, and the ordinary folks against the genocide are demonised! Our endless wars, how we traffic children and women, how we destroy countries by illegal bombings! So the animal title is actually an offence, However, that being said humans too are animals of the mammal variety, so we are the most evil of all animals, and we cannot be compared to other animals !

I am glad you two reviewed animal. I 100% agree with Amna. My respect for her as a journalist has increased all the more .
I am so glad that I didn’t see the movie in a theatre. According to me , it was the director’s / maker’s sick mentality which was portrayed. All the points which Amna pointed out , I agree with her.
    Just bullet pointing
.-Too much violence ;unnecessary violence without redemption of any kind
    .- Glamorising toxic masculinity
    - betrayal/ infidelity without any consequences
-far fetched imagination ( he got badly injured & then recovered fully, got a heart transplant & even then fighting like a super hero ; come on . Spare us please
Single handedly killed 100s of people
    - showing him nude though blurred was unnecessary.
Had it been shown in a way that he was disturbed mentally , it would have made sense , but I didn’t get that feeling .I felt it was glorified
-Then his opinion about his frequency of being intimate with his wife was very disturbing. How
Can someone boast about something so natural or beautiful .again toxic masculinity
    - rolls Royce matching …plus shaving off his body hair ….
    - it was too much & unnecessary
The director sorry to say is not normal .
Ranbir kapoor is a superstar . I am disappointed that he did this movie . He could have argued regarding the end .
Why didn’t law enforcing forces didn’t take any action . At least they should have shown that AK & RK used their powers to save themselves . I can go on & on but one last point:
The fact that it’s a mega hit , in itself is disturbing. People loved it . I am sure esp men . I agree had RK been shown to be killed or committed suicide or ending in an asylum or some kind of redemption maybe my views about the director’s intentions would have been different. Sorry for a long feedback.

Made this comment a month ago in one other review in which you guys briefly discussed Animal. The basic difference between people accepting GOT and not accepting Animal is that GOT is based in a nonfiction world. They have creatures like dragons and whatnot. In that world, everything is allowed.
With Animal, it is based in our world, in our reality. The main lead is a human, no matter how demented he is in the head. You can say that he is a bad guy, but there’s no denying that he hasn’t been glamorized or glorified in the movie. When he says shit like “lick my shoes”, and at the end of the movie still survives and stands tall. He is being glamorized. He is shown to be the alpha male with his pack of wolves standing behind his every move. When he kills 200 men with that big gun, the scene is supposed to make the audience go “Wow”! And all of that is clear from the background music that plays whenever he does something like this. The music tells you what the director feels about the character he’s putting on screen. When he cheats on his wife and comes back and tells her to not marry someone else if he dies, the sad arijit Singh song plays, why? Because the intention is to make the viewer sympathize with him. He has been glamorized and glorified. And this does play in the heads of the young teenage boys. They will be influenced by this. Not to forget that our culture already considers “aurat ko joti ki nok pay rakhna”, when your male leads treat their significant others like this and still win in the end, that is glorification. Even if his wife leaves him in the end, Knowing his character he’ll be with another woman pretty soon. I’m so glad that Amna feels so much like this!

There was a scene in the movie where Ranbir tells his son I am the director to which his son says, "Papa, aap hero ho". So I feel the direction was clear that he is a macho hero vs Bobby who was shown to be even more evil to ensure that Ranvijay is seen as the "hero" of the movie. Even portraying women as statutes in a movie is anti feminist. Last, even if I leave feminism aside, tell me the screenplay of the film? What is the story? What is the logic? Where is the flow? It was shot well and they had the money for sets. Even the interval action scene was like an English movie Old Boy. Animal was a movie that is only useful for memes.

Over the past decade or so, the average urban Indian woman has been able to have her voice heard to quite an extent. With the increase of women's education and with economic independence, urban Indian women have come to realize that the men who dominated their lives for centuries are not particularly stronger or better than them. The changing of many of India's laws in favor of women has also helped them.
Urban Indian men have had no choice but to accept these changes and pretend to be okay with it. But secretly they are not happy about it. There is a lot of internalized bitterness at their losing what they see as their birthright and their natural place in society. This internalized bitterness and resentment was clearly visible in theaters as urban Indian men thoroughly cheered at scenes where women were being hurt and humiliated by the male stars of the movie.

@@Sana-t5z5g 'Animal' as an adjective means "relating to the physical or sentient as contrasted with the intellectual or rational". This character is exactly that. And yet a very large number of guys felt the need to defend and validate his hateful actions and celebrated the mistreatment of women in the film. It felt like they desperately wished to be like him. I am a bit aware of some of the Hollywood movies which have a lot of violence. The difference in my opinion is that there violence or gruesome acts are not glorified. It’s shown as it occurs in the society. In Bollywood it’s different. In the indo pak , masses / public adore the Bollywood heroes& idolise them. Somehow they want to relate themselves to the heroes shown on screen . This is my personal opinion. If someone likes watching violence, it’s their choice. I can’t tolerate it. Especially at these times, when there is already so much lawlessness in the society. Why show stories where the protagonist gets away with killing so many people , even if in self defence with no consequences or intervention by the police. Aamna is spot on about how those who liked the movie it subconsciously played to their inner kinks. It was titillating to the senses! And as Hassan pointed out kinks could be anything like violence, power play, etc.

Oh my God i love and respect Aamna, her review for this movie is just super. I havent watched this movie thank God, never will. She is so right that the man is a savage beast. And hassan enjoyed this movie just because it is larger than life and action packed. Men in him didnt think beyond, although i didnt expect this from him. But aamna you are a brilliant journalist..

    Oh my gosh...
It's hard to overlook the fact that Animal has no story for anyone who identifies as a critic. I've found Hassan to be biased from the beginning, which is why his opinions on dramas and art, in general, lack credibility for me. He just is in love with the Cringe of Bollywood.
I'm only watching for Aamna's insightful views. Besides, this whole concept of 'alpha' male is going to attract pseudo alphas.
Please watch Anupama Chopra review. One would know how a credible citric sounds like.
I hope you don't mind my perspective. If someone can watch Animal twice and express love for it, I too can share my reaction to that.

Such a stupid film!! The hotel scene was so bad!! Made no sense. And Ranbir’s character also made no sense! If he loved and wanted to impress his father, why was he so rude and unhinged!! Why didn’t he have any manners and talked inappropriately around people about sex. And didn’t even like his acting. Cringe fest 🤮🤢🤮🤢🤮

If a man only cared about his alpha male ego trying to impress and revenge just his father but totally ignored feelings of his wife mother and children. He should have rather be a loving Dad to his kids than to shoot a gun in front of his own kids. Vijay was just obsessed trying to prove himself. And there are lots of kids or sons in real world trying to get love from parents but doesn't justify violence to do so. Most people were impressed by the shooting of hundreds of people😮

Not only this movie promoted masculine toxicity at its highest but it was also very stupid and illogical. It is baffling to me how a person with even a little logic would or could like a movie like this. It is a kind of movie that if I had even liked, I would have been too ashamed to admit I did. So, my question is how Hassan is able to support this movie so openly? Is he so tone deaf? The only circumstance, in which I think someone can only enjoy this movie is just to laugh at its buffoonery and absurdity.

There was everything in movie but story, basic premises was father son relationship, and there was very little exploration of that.

Of course afterwards you know how absurd some of the things were but the emotion i felt was brilliant. I feel there is an animal in all of us especially in men and it exactly tapped into that. It hit that parts of us which Sandeep wanted. Some of the things were actually relate able. I have seen women falling for bad guys and it exactly showed that.

Did I get entertained by the film? Absolutely.
Did I agree with what’s being shown? Heck, No!
My views on this film are somewhere between Amna’s and Hassan’s -
I agree with Hassan that I was completely sunk in the Animal world for those 3.50 hours when was watching it in Cinema, and then again on Netflix.
I was mesmerized by the great visuals they created - the larger-than-life scope of the film, and how all hell broke loose - complete disconnection with reality , and bang for buck for cinema-watchers, especially.
    But,
I also agree with Amna - fireworks example - spot on! Glamorized - yes, it was! Glorified? Not at all.
He should’ve died in the end; but actually usky father ko cancer/death ka dikhaa ker unhune Ranvijay ko zindaa houtay huay bhi Maar hee diaaa!
Also that one iconic scene (from the Trailor) where they swap roles for a mo, I felt like we’ve relived childhood trauma in that one scene - how many of us relate to being ignored, neglected, beaten up (physically), suppressed (emotionally) at the hands of our violent parent (mostly, fathers).
That was a real trigger for someone like me, who has not had a very rosy, fairytalish childhood or relationship with her father.
I don't mind such stories being told, especially at the level that Vanga created the Animal-verse, but I also feel we as an audience are not ready to take this in its stride, unless we're able to draw a VERY fine line between "entertainment" and "undue influence". I hope no-one gets even a slight hunch that they can actually DO what Ranjvijay did, in their own context and lives - For this scary thought to be coming in my mind, I don't think we're ready yet, to watch this without being influenced!
    Peace to the world!
    💚🟢💚

Given the current political realities in the world, I can't even think about this movie, without drawing some sort of parallels. The protagonist could've been a soldier with an unhealthy obsession with an idea, designing and coming up with new machinery to cause maximum damage. I can't think of this as fantasy. It's reality in some places.

Am I the ONLY one who watches cinema PURELY as cinema, and not get so influenced by it? Animal, for me, was an entertaining watch therefore I enjoyed the film. Do I like Ranvijay or want a man like him in my life? No. Will I go out killing people because Ranvijay did so> No. It was just a good film. Why are we intellectualizing films so much? If someone watches a violent film and gets inspired from it to an extent that he/she starts embodying the negative aspects of the fictional characters in the movie, problem lies WITH THE PERSON and not the film.
