This is one of those channels that deserve much more views, cause the content is real INSANE
Could not agree more!
Bro please keep coming out with more videos like this! Where you recreate a scene and break down the lighting. I love that you covered euphoria. Your lighting is so good. There are so many different things you could cover. Interior & exterior daytime/nighttime, etc. This has easily become one of my favorite channels.
Definitely will do more!
+1
Really like your no nonsense approach on this channel. Instructive, low key, not trying desperately to peddle gear (or luts), very honest. I wish you the best in your cinematic journey and will continue to follow you here. Force to you!
Love this breakdown man, thanks. One note is that the cinematographer for this episode was actually Rina Yang!
I just started DPing in Hollywood this year and I wish I would have watched this before the 3 shows I did lol. I would have talked to my lighting team a lot differently! Thanks for the video mate.
Wow amazing but also massive appreciation to your fiancee for agreeing to this haha :) no easy feat trying to re-do Zendaya's performance from this show, must have been pretty daunting
Bravo! One of the best tutorial I have seen. Step by step starting from beginning to the final result and each step properly motivated and explained.
I love your grounded and thoughtful approach when you reflect on your creative decisions 🤘great work mate
I really hope I get to work with you one of these days. Your videos helped me realize new possibilities a few years ago. I was a PA, now I produce and direct while I build my production company. All of my mentors the same capacity to spread knowledge and encouragement to other creators. I'll always appreciate that.
Gian! This is so inspirational. Currently saving up for my first camera and I learn so much from you and Danny! Good job!
Thank you!
This deserves a lot of attention!
Hopefully!
@@carlostigs Yeah hopefully the UA-cam algorithm makes this video viral, really well done!
Keep it up bro🔥
Thank you!
awesome work brother! you need to make a course like Mark Bone and capitalise on those next level skills of yours.
Such a great video brother, loved the way you explained things. Keep doing , subscribed , Love from INDIA 💙
Thank you!
solid.... good video.
Hi i wanne know how to light dynamic gimble/hand shots for a7 3s or fx6 beginner. To simple bright light medium and low light lamp setups and explain why u do the light strength and color planned for the edit. What do u need to know from edit to chose a good lighting for fast shoots 1 day or 2 a video clip or recap from event where u cannot control light or we take some lights with us and how then mostly dark settings indoors. How plan a quik shoot and chose the right cheap lights and settings and more tips bro. Keep it up. I also learn how the social dynamics works and camera setups. scripting is pretty hard basic rules for allround situations would be nice, i know visiting places first is better but tips for without this knowledge.
sick bro, this was a great video
Crazy how I was just searching this exact concept and the next day here you are. This is a really well done recreation man, you guys killed it
Hahaha perfect timing
Thank you so much for the insight!
Thank you!
Love the video!
Thanks!
great video man
Thank you
good job
Thanks!
Well done!
Thanks dude!
Another banger
Thanks bro
Definitely don’t need creative input from my gaffer. But I will take away that it’s important to always be mindful of how I ask. I don’t believe in barking orders at my gaffer. But I doubt that he’s stayed up and obsessed about the look of the frame the way I have. I know some gaffers hate double work, but sometimes you just wanna see how two looks compare to each other. Gaffers are an extremely important piece to the puzzle and I’m very appreciative of their contributions to the set.
Thanks for sharing your work flow, always interesting to hear other DP’s povs!
@@carlostigs definitely, thanks for the awesome episode, it definitely shines more light on how our fellow creatives feel and how they’d like to be addressed and treated. A great piece of advice I’ve gotten in the past, is that being a DP or Director is largely predicated on understanding psychology first and foremost. This episode just drives that point further home. Definitely appreciate the content, keep it coming.
Hi Gian love your stuff! I believe Rina Yang shoot this particular episode, highly recommend checking out her work if you're not familiar
your correct, I love Rina- forgot to mention that but Marcel is the creator DP on the show. One of my favorite DP’s in the game is Rina
@@carlostigs then you'll like TopBoy as well I suppose. She did a few episodes on there too.
yes don't micro direct. share your needs and respect others enough to be able to serve. we as humans receive great reward when we serve and micro directing leads to controlling and if I'm controlled I can't serve only slave.
Chicago Devil Dogs?
No idea
I wish my partner was as willing to stand in as your fiance...
You should do Batman
Hahaha maybe I will
i loved this!! enjoyed every second. We recreate scenes on our channel too! maybe you can check them out! anyways, keep it up!!
I appreciate that
Hey wanted to reach out! Moving to philly here shortly and would to help with anything you need if you find yourself needing an extra hand!
Thanks man! Hmu on IG
Re-create great idea.. think simple.. what would you do if you have half your equipment..
Your rim light was too from the side, if you had just moved it towards being a back light you'd have nailed it, good video man, great content.
Great breakdown Gian! Thank you
Thank you!
They appear to be using a longer focal length. Which would mean the window is further back than anticipated. This would explain why the backlight wraps around her head more.
What is a 20k beam projector?
Are you using some yellow gel or something to light your face? I see is the same temperature as light in background
Nope just 5600k. Did a little color work to match
MA SEI ITALIANO
Really insightful breakdown Gian. Thank you for making this video and sharing your experience!
nice
curious what type of grain you used in this shot??
I just used 35mm film to help emulate the camera they used
so is a 20k beam projector like a much more powerful light then the ones you had here? how did they get the green color in only some parts?
Yes it is one of the most powerful lights available
Love your video Carlo. Amazing works you're doing with Danny also. Congratulations🎉🎊
Thank you!
Hope you are enjoying Kenya. Karibu sana.
Asante!
Amazing video. Channels and videos like yours is what made me learn so much (and keep learning) so thank you
Thank you!
mini Danny Gevirtz
Hahaha the best
Found you through Danny, staying because your info is so helpful!
Guan, I like your channel and what you focus on. I enjoy you showing behind the scenes of recreating scenes or commercials. Yes this channel deserves more attention. You explain things well.
Roger Deakins said he tries to use the least amount lights as possible to paint the scene.
Really loved this recreation. Would love to see your color grading process on grading this video
Have been thinking about it!
Well your video was just great. But you know if u add chapters in the video like at each step u add a different chapter then it would be very easy to navigate the video and at the end we could just simply look at the chapters and revise the topics. By the way I am really really grateful for making this video. All the best for your future ✨✨❤️
Don’t know if you’ll reply but as someone who wants to get into cinematography, how do I get started? Where do I even begin and how do I get better? Lighting seems so complex
overall, super good job. I think one think that would have helped is shooting during the day or having more or stronger lights. It looks less like sunlight coming in from the window like in the original and more like a street light. but again, it looks great.
Hi,
Hi
Hey bro great channel. I totally agree when it come to practicing your craft. Unfortunately , in my live there are so many obstacles that in my daily life that prevents practice and as such I get what you say about feeling anxious. I am trying to rectify the situation and just wanted to say your insight into filming and life is spot on. Great video and enjoy your video with Danny and his feature film👍
Sick video taught me a lot
Great info. Love the comments from the gaffer about communication
This is the most useful, practical, insightful and educational channel on how to shoot as a budding indie film maker. Please keep these coming.
This was a really great episode
Thank you!
Loved the insights on Gaffer DP!
Yes, super valuable info
@@carlostigs Thanks for sharing!!
Nice video bro!
very well done. I think the hard light on her back was because on the show, she was forward a little, while the light in yours was more side so it couldn't wrap. Aside from that. Nailed it.
Yeah for sure also just a much bigger source!
Great video!
Awesome job Carlo! this would have made a great submission for the Shot deck recreation contest. Thanks for the heads up about the discord as well!
Ahhh yes true! Maybe in the future
Yoooo that was great man! I love euphoria what a show!! Your face looks very familiar feels like I’ve seen you on something else lol keep up the great content
Thank you!
Insane how much gel looks like the girl in the show 😂😂
Hahahah favts
awesome wortk brother ! , love the look!
Thank you!
I loved this video, you smashed it! Simpler is always better! There’s been so many times I’ve over engineered a shot and just gone into shoots feeling weighed down by having lots of time intensive lighting set ups.
It all changed when I started doing documentary style content and I had to search for the soft light and back lights in my locations as it was happening. I approach all of my work so differently now.
Start with what’s available and back light everything 😅😂
You definitely smashed it though man! Keep it!
Thank you so much!
Fantastic video. So many gems inside. Thanks for sharing. Would be amazing to do this as a series. Where you recreate a shot and then talk to the gaffer’s involved to see what you guessed right and wrong.
I’d love to! Hopefully they answer haha
Love your work dude. Thank you for making these kinds of videos!
GLAD YOU ENOJY!
You do a great job bro 🤌🏽🥹🫀
Thanks man
I actually kinda prefer the pose in yours, looks like a painting
I appreciate that!
Keep up the great content bro, love it🤞
Thanks!
Well done. Love the breakdown and the shot came out great.
Thank you Brandon!
Deffo need to catchup on this one. Haven't watched since end of season 1 or half of season 2.
Highly recommend!
@@carlostigs ps love the breakdowns but the cherry on top is just emphasizing on the interaction between crew and well being of one self. Btw you still shooting with the UMP for your personal stuff/at home?
nailed it!
Thank you bro
It's cool seeing how scenes are created and then all that goes into recreating it yourself! Nice one bro!
Thank you!
thanks for sharing this
Thanks!
👏👏👏
Thanks bro
Beautiful work! I wanted to note (re: film stocks used) that Ektachrome is not a tungsten stock, but rather a daylight reversal stock (at least the version that Kodak makes today). In addition to Ektachrome, they shot with Vision3 500T which is a tungsten negative stock. I don't know what this scene was shot on, my hunch is the 500T, but that's just a guess.
Great note, I think I just copy and pasted the info from a site so I’m not entirely sure
Recreating a Scene? Where? I scrolled through the entire video without finding the recreating. As one of the first things to learn: Show. Don't tell.
Well my friend. I can’t help you there. Maybe watch the video instead of scroll and you’ll find it more enjoyable. Have a great day
@@carlostigs well handled dude, I thought the video was awesome. The tik tok-fueled short attention spans nowadays are a real bummer. 👁 keep’em coming please! 🙏
