I'm with you on all this, as well as the other obvious features and quality of the 90D! I've had mine for a fairly short time, and while the learning curve is steep, there are new and exciting experiences every day - I could see someone using this camera for 5 years and ~still~ be going, "Wow!"
Hello from Australia. Thankyou Arron for a great review! I recently bought the 90D with ef-s 17-55 mm lF2.8 lens. I'm still learning what I can do with combination , , but so far I love it.
Just ordered this for an upgrade, from my iphone7, for taking stills. Just went for the 18-55mm kit lens as it broke the bank . My first dslr for my entry into photography. Cool video , glad that has decent video capabilities too
I use my 90D with my Celestron C8 telescope to live view the moon, Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars. It is amazing to connect the hdmi cable to a pc monitor in live view. At f10 , 2010mm focal length of the telescope it has amazing results. Recording 4K crop with digital stabilization enabled it is great. Live view in picture mode is nice too as you can zoom in. The difference from my Canon t3i 18mp to the 90D’s 32.5mp sensor is way worth the upgrade, not to mention all the other benefits the 90D has.
I have the Canon EOS 90D with a Tameron AF 18-400 f/3,5-6,3 Di II for general purpose use, and yet to use with the Sigma 60-600 f/4,5-6,3 DG OS HSM Sport. Lookin forward to use it when the soccer season starts.
Thanks for sharing! I was using the Canon G7X MII for a couple years and finally ordered a 90D yesterday. I'm looking forward to learning and utilizing all of the features this camera has to offer.
I'm glad to hear your opinion has been upgraded. You seemed pretty underwhelmed by it before. I'm still on the fence, so it's always nice to get these updates. I'll be going from 77D to either the upcoming EOS M, R6, or this 90D. Thank-you
Great video and info thanks. I’ve been researching for a whole week and narrowed it down to a Sony a6600 or Canon M6ii or 90D. I think your effort has just tipped me over towards a 90D. It just seems like the best value and ticks all the right boxes.
Thanks for the review Aaron! I have been shooting on my channel with an SL2 and finally upgraded to a Sigma 18-35 after using the 17-50 f2.8 for a long time. I wanted to get into 4K so I found a Lumix G85, but then had to get a speedbooster to use my Sigma 18-35 on it. The focus is gaaaaaaabage as they say. I miss dual pixel AF and my Canon already. I think a 90D is in my future and I like that I can use EF/EFS lenses without adapters.
My first DSLR was the Canon T3i. I still love that little camera and gave it to my daughter and I bought the 80D. This was 2018. Then I wasn't overly impressed with the 80D. I never got attached to it. Then the 90D came out and in January I sold my 90D and bought the 90D. I am very attached to it. Just like I was my T3i.
Just decided this was the camera for me.... and darn if it's Out of Stock everywhere! Unless you're willing to buy the international version, which I'm not. After watching your video, I'm even more anxious to get the Canon 90D. Thanks Aaron, Lala
I used SLR's years ago and a few months ago got the SL2 which is cool but now looking at the 90D. The SL2 finds it hard to autofocus in blasts and sometimes hunts especially in low light. Do you think the 90D will be better for this? I have the 10-18, 18-55, 55-250 and nifty 50. Thanks from New Zealand
I do not have those issues with the 90D, but I typically use lenses f2.8 or lower. I know that the 90D is miles ahead of the SL2 in every aspect as far as hardware, so I can't imagine it not being much better in low light focusing.
I saw a video last week that said it's a great camera, but he wouldn't recommend it because there's no All-i like Canon 80D for videos. He said ipb not high video quality like All-i. If this camera had All-i the 4K would probably be 300Mbps so the price would be almost $2500, Canon EOS R is 480Mbps for 4K videos.
This video was awesome, still waiting for mine as it's on backorder can't wait for the 120fps 1080p can't believe the EOS R doesn't have that... Just wondering what lens was this shot on?
How about the lack of all-i compression. I think the 24 samples I've seen look less fluid . My 80d 24 frames look smooth in comparison. Might still buy and use with magicladen raw sometime . Perhaps Fuji xt4 might be a better option overall. Confused .
I've heard a few people bring up all-i. I never owned the 80D, and I don't film in 24fps. All the video looks smooth to me unless there's a software glitch due to a weak video card on an older computer.
Second question. Has the 90d got high speed flash sync HSS. If not why not ? . This ought to be better than Nikon 7000s no ? None of these UA-cam reviews talk about , clean hdmi out quality on a atamos ninja, or flash speeds. Could you possibly do an advanced 90d video without all the generic fluff . Thanks . Much appreciated.
I use a basic Canon 470ex-ai flash, no experience with anything else. I've never used a Nikon camera of any kind, and I don't use an external monitor, only the lcd.
Sir nice informative video...I want to purchase canon 90d? But confused between 18-55 kit lens and 18-135 kit lens.. please suggest Sir....which kit lens is sharp?
I've never used the 18-135 kit lens, but I've heard many people say that it is definitely better. I can't say with certainty that it is sharper. I can say the Canon 24mm f2.8 is absolutely sharper.
@@FitsandFun Agreed. Rarely do you hear sharpness associated with kit lenses. Kit lenses can give you decent results in good lighting, but they're mainly used to just get you started shooting while providing the versatility of different angles.
Up to this point Canon didn't have a Mirrorless body that I liked., and I've grown to love the optical view finder. They've all been very small and uncomfortable in my hand. And the EOS-R was a first generation, so I stayed away. The new R5 is one I'm considering. But no real reason other than personal preference.
It is sad to hear that, as from the T3i Rebel to the 80D, this feature is presented and really useful for wildlife. For example, it gives you unreal reach in full HD, but only in 3x digital zoom. Beyond that, up to 10x, it's going to crop your sensor much more, but it's still consumable. It would be nice to see this feature in 4K, where after cropping, you still get solid resolution.@@FitsandFun
The crop sensor can create some issues in smaller rooms, so for that reason I'd still use the 6D Mark ii to photograph professionally in most situations. However the video quality of the 90D is so much better in my opinion that I'd always film with the 90D. They work well together for simultaneous use. The 90D is more than capable of both as far as image quality though, no issues with the photos I've taken.
I'm not a professional, but I'd hesitate to do any professional work before investing in a camera with dual card slots. I'm a 90D owner so I know it doesn't have dual card slots, and as far as I know the 6D Mark II doesn't have them either. I looked up camera rental prices. On Lensrentals you can rent a 5D Mark IV at $129 for 7 days or a 7D Mark II at $76.00 for 7 days, but I'm sure other rental companies or websites have similar deals. I don't know how much event and wedding photography pays, but my guess is that it should more than make up for the rental prices above.
@@FitsandFun Good to know, I've been saving money to upgrade from my SL2. It's either the 90d or R6. I know you have a video about it, but I'm still on the fence. You think it's beneficial, in the long run, to get the R6 instead? I only have aps-c lenses too. (Sigma 18-35 and 30mm Art Lenses) Would those Sigma aps-c lenses work on the R6?
The 90d is a much better value, it is very similar 4k video quality, has eye tracking in live view, and for sports and wildlife it's very capable in every form of photography and video. The dual card slots, c-log video, full frame, electronic view finder, 120fps with dual pixel, the 4k@60fps, of the R6 are all nice features of course, but most aren't necessary or practical for everyone. Not to mention the r6 is over double the price. Oh, and all lenses work on the R6 with the adaptor, and it automatically switches to crop mode while using ef-s lenses. Honestly, I've yet to see anyone disappointed with the 90d or the R6. So I'd say it's all about budget, both are excellent.
@@FitsandFun so you’re saying I should get both? Lmaooo thanks, I think you bring up a bunch of good points. I think ultimately, I’m leaning towards the R6. That’ll be a nice little upgrade and keep me occupied for the next 7-10 years. Lol thanks!
D'Onjre Young No, being APSC is a big advantage. APSC is virtually the same size as movie film footage. But the smaller sensor has the advantage of faster processing of files. This means that the camera can do better than full frame given similar processing power. It is the reason that 90D footage has better detail than the full frame R. It is possible to do better with a larger sensor but that requires much more powerful processors which produce a lot of heat and battery drain, and cost a lot more. The 90D is a great balance between capabilities yet retaining a smallish and easy to use and affordable camera. This is the reason (in the world outside Canon) that the GH5 has so much greater capabilities than say an A7 III. However, while the full frame sensor has more trouble with higher frame rates, it does do better in low light and maximising shallow depth of field. Thus there is no “better” sensor format, just formats which are best for certain things. Once the Canon R5 arrives, there will still be a need for the APSC 90D. I think, up to this point, the 90D is the best consumer non-camcorder video camera that Canon has ever made, and i wouldn’t change very much about it. It is simply brilliant, and that includes the fact that it is APSC.
I use the 6DMKII for photography, but for video I use the 90D. I think I get substantially better photos from the full frame 6DMKII, but the video quality is surprisingly average on the 6D.
It's the best crop sensor camera I've used for photography by far. But in my opinion it doesn't get the depth and subject separation that a full frame camera can provide. I use this primarily for video. But again, my personal photography style benefits more from a full frame sensor, your style may be totally different and this could be perfect for you. Excellent image quality and great for wildlife though for sure.
I love the 90D, I use it all the time for my videos. It's a much better video camera than the 6dMKii. But I do prefer full frame over crop sensors for photography. And even after I got my R6 I still use the 90D for a lot of videos.
