    What a great album! I picked it up from Ken after reading Eric's review on the website. Just amazing all the way through. Glad to hear you enjoyed it so much too Pete.

    I heard this for the first time yesterday after the ITPS episode. I usually complain about album length, but I can't on this one. The songs, the musicianship, and the production are top notch! It's jaw dropping how these guys can change genres and make it sound so cohesive. Everyone needs to go check this one out!
    I would love to revisit the top 31 of 2023 in like 4-6 months. So many great late releases and late new discoveries for me this year.

      I was part of the crowd fund .. I think the reason for the length was that it was their first album and the fact that they had the studio time they just went for it, tried to show everything they had .. I think they nailed it

    Looking forward to hearing this one as it's on the way from Ken Golden at Laser's Edge. Appreciate your enthusiastic review, Pete, and Eric Porter's strong comment to me on last week's The Professors Picks episode. Thanks as always for the new product episodes.

    Had to listen to this after In the Prog Seat, and was not disappointed. Ordered a copy from Laser's Edge the next day (along with several other selections from the show). Terrific stuff.

    I`ll admit I`m not the biggest fusion fan in the world, but this sounds really interesting and worth checking out.

    • @wolf1977
      @wolf1977 9 місяців тому +1

      To me more on the prog (with psyche vibes) side but definitely has fusiony moments - especially the Lettieri track. Also has vocals on some tracks which is usually a no-no for hard core fusion fans - so to me this isn't really your typical (instrumental) jazz/rock fusion album

      @@ericporter344 Gave this one a listen and yeah, really liked it. Excellent stuff. Lots of styles going on , a taste of fusion being just one of the flavors. Definitely got into it.

    Just got this one...fusiony psyche (as Pete mentions also 'jammy') with significant prog elements (for example the track "Progress" combines everything into one track). "Tunnel Vision" features more of the fusion elements courtesy of one Mark Lettieri (by inserting some Snark). "Pull the Lever" is the 'pop' song here & "Premonition" the darker/epic prog number, heavier in feel/vibe to the rest of the tracks (also brings in some electronic elements). The first track's a little repetitive but still good. "Cause For Alarm" has a more jazzy vibe with nice percussive elements in the middle section before turning more proggy. This one still needs to percolate some more in my head but right now an easy 4 out of 5 for me - it could easily score higher with more plays...
    BTW an album being 'too long' is a concept I still don't understand. You have the ability to skip tracks/not play all tracks at once - to me this is a criticism that harkens back to the vinyl days when tracks were physically spaced too closely together which impacted the dynamic range of playback on vinyl (or perhaps when the Red Book standard of cd's was violated = approx max 80 minutes of music per cd). Unless you're one who absolutely insists on playing every album all the way through EVERY time - in which case I suspect you're listening to quite a bit of music you don't really love for the sake of getting that 'album experience' every time

      Check out some Umphrey's if you dig these guys, Eric, if you haven't already. They're a good mix of progmetal and jam band stuff. Really killer guitar playing. Local Band Does Ok and Anchor Drops are the two albums I'd recommend starting with. One of my favorite bands. Any of the live material is good too depending on your tolerance for extended jamming.
