I am an actor and content creator with Hollywood credits including roles on Lucifer (Netflix), Starlight Christmas (Hallmark), JT Leroy (Universal Studios), etc. In this channel, I offer insight to Kpop performances using my 10+ years of training in dance, acting, singing and overall performance. I saw comments talking about how Chan and Lee Know's Drive uses "driving" as a metaphor for sex and Chan and Hyunjin's Red Lights uses sex a metaphor for obsession and being a perfectionist/slave to your job and I think its fucking brilliant. I love that Skz are experimenting with a more mature concept now. Also ya'll notice how Chan is the common factor? I'm just wondering whose next haha. I need it to be Changbin lol

2:30 fr fr fr the core strength hyunjin has to hold that pose while dancing is so insane !! i knew he is super strong and always work hard on his dancing, even chan said he's the second strongest in skz (only after chan himself, he said lmao) but stunts and things like this really remind me of it and i get mindblown everytime like pls, his upper back is the only part being supported i would've been shaking trying to dance that and he makes it look like it's nothing to him

I wouldn't have thought to pair them for this, but it was perfection.
Never only a duo before. Actually they kinda similar in the way they dance , they r swimmers so both of them hv these full body reach with their hands. That's why in SKZ choreo u see ALOT of them dance near each other ( usually it's Hyunjin, bangchan, changbin together. So that's why changbin complain he can do sexy too 😁 ). So for me, I always know they will do well together 👍
They've both been my bias forever I mean I love them all but Hyunjin and Chan share the top spot so this is my DREAM COME TRUE 😭
"Sexy on the surface" and talking about internal conflict with so much artistry. I LOVE IT. I love how contemporary the choreo is, and the SONG itself is really good. The lyrics, the meaning, the VOCALS, the arrangement, the emotions. And on top of these, the ACTING.
This performance and video is so intense if you ignore the whole s3xy and k1nky stuff, you see how this talks about obsession and how obsession can make you its slave

yes, exactly! most people just see the sexiness of the song/video without paying attention to the deeper meaning which disappoints me a little, maybe even slightly disgusts cuz they intentionally don’t want to see the actual reason behind it.
@@hannibuns Yeah, the first time I watched it I only saw the sexy concept, but on the second watch it seemed dark and almost... sad? At the end they both look defeated, like they struggled against their compulsion and lost.
@@cloudsn right? i saw so many people pointing at it being like 50 shades of gray and making references to “chan standing above hyunjin” etc it really made upset. i personally noticed the deeper meaning right away. i am kind of at home with this dark concept, so i was very stunned to see others not getting it.

The dance is really sensual. There is underlying tension with a dance and MV that is purposeful. Knowing Bang Chan and Hyunjin the song has a underlying meaning. It's being used as a metaphor for I belive his music and production, and their perfectionist tendencies and feeling almost at the edge if they don't get something perfect? (Please dont quote me on this I saw this somewhere on the internet). But I agree its a very symbolic song. I'm very impressed at how they have pulled off such a mature concept but made it elegant in the sense that it isn't crass or overly sexual. I wouldn't use the word sexual to describe the song and MV. Sensual really fits it
Then again it might not even be deep and is just a sensual video and song that brings people to the "edge"
If you check out their Howling in Harmony videos where they brainstorm the unit songs, they talk about how they want to express being obsessed with working and being unable to rest. It really is that deep lol

Red Lights make me think about vampires and bloodlust for some reason. I had a flashback to Vampire Knight anime. This was absolutely stunning.

The fact that the vocals are this good when they recorded the guide vocals in Chan's Room and then just used them in the final track blows my mind! But they're just that good and there's so much raw emotion that it totally makes sense when I think about it more
I heard that it was also vaguely inspired by 50 shades of grey but that it has an underlying meaning of being trapped in overworking (I’m up all night) and that they can’t stop even though they see red lights
They say they try to leave but “set the mic up” again because they’re staying “up all night again” and can’t leave us (stays) alone. They lost control and can’t stop and can’t sleep (Chan’s compulsion to work and insomnia because of that) I think it’s like most of stray kids songs where there’s the outside meaning and then a deeper meaning beyond that

Thanks to JYP for allowing Stray Kids to do what they wanted to do.
This song and performance just goes deeply into Chan and Hyunjin's thoughts. So many angles like how the public s3xualizes them but they used that to their advantage. They are both perfectionists in their craft - Chan with producing music, Hyunjin going from being told he can't dance to being one of the main dancers (because he has practiced so much) and proving he's more than just a pretty face.
Their obsession shows in their performance. They are enslaved and may try to break out of it but in the end, they look like they don't let it break or control them because they love what they do.
Just my guess.

the poetic irony of reducing red lights to a sex song when it talks abt obsession with work, esp in an industry known for overworking and objectifying its idols.
but I mean it does 100% come across that way at face value, and it doesn't help that the video is sexual and homoerotic as hell. it is a sensual deep meaning song but at face value it could fit in a 50 shades sequel tbh. amazing work, my fav song off the album

Okay but the real question, whose Chan gonna do a song with next? We've already got a song with Lee Know, now with Hyunjin.
The story behind the song (if anyone remembers) is their struggles being workaholics and how theyre basically chained to their work, how they NEED to keep working to feel any sort ot self-satisfaction. i think its so creative of them and the director as well to symbolise it the way they did and using shibari etc to show how tightly knit to their work they are ... theyre geniuses, this whole mv is genius if you look past the very obvious sexual undertone.
I work hard to get my head out of the gutter - they are both so beautiful - but the emotion and the deeper levels of this obsession with relationships and work - grabs you by the throat (literally in the video)

This song is so much more than just sexy, the emotions and meanings in the lyrics and the dance are incredible.
They are so gorgeous together! They are like matching bookends, working well with each other.
One I realized is its title, Red lights represents as a stop sign for your compulsion or being a slave of something that isn't right, just like a red light in traffic lights.
