Hope you enjoy today's jazz standard lesson. Don't forget to get the chart and chord shapes from my website, links in the description. Let me know if you have any questions! Andy

I fought with the melody of the A section for the longest time, mostly because I was wired into playing in one position. When I played the melody going down the neck (following the chord shapes - what a concept!) it fell into place beautifully.

It's definitely one that takes some working out in terms of fingering! The timing of that first phrase is so fun to play too.

Great tutorial Andy - absolutely nailed it. Lots of chords but you arranged the chord shapes so everything fits together nicely. Brilliant.

Nice one Andy! I particularly enjoyed your discussion of the tritone movement in the bass. Very helpful!
Looking forward to your lesson on "Out of Nowhere"!

Thanks Mike. That tritone move is very cool. John Lewis was one great songwriter.

Thank you again Andy. I agree, beautiful tune. I did have the C.D. Afternoon in Paris, recorded I think in 1956 avec Sacha Distel ( I hope I've spelt that correctly) playing guitar. Fab tutorials. All the best.

Useful chord analysis, even though I am playing alto saxophone. I know some theory,. and thought I was hearing 2 5 1s in here.

Great teaching , once again, what kind of pick do you use?

Great lesson thanks, really enjoying the channel. This is a song I'm not familiar with - are there particular versions you'd recommend for digging into it?

Thanks Frank! Yes, obviously check out the original John Lewis version. I also like versions by Kenny Burrell, Stephane Grappelli and Sonny Rollins.
