Drew, builds like this is exactly why I keep coming back to your channel. Not only are you fun to watch, but your builds are also well thought out, designed to do the job they are meant for while still looking nice and buildable by others with only a limited amount of shop tools. Keep up the good work. I plan to build one of your flip-carts for a couple of my tools.
The one time a flat head screw saves the day! It looks beautiful! I love how your home must be filling up with beautiful furniture and accessories. My dad made a lot of our furniture and it added a special feel to our family home, I'm glad your family get the same experience.
Fisher, I just want to say I love your videos. Most of all, you haven't gone to the dark side of tool reviewing and tool pushing. I have started letting some of my other channels go because that has become their main focus. It's sad. Please keep making videos about actually woodworking. I learn something new from most of them and I love your humor. Thanks.
G’day Drew, you’re one of my favourite woodworking UA-cam channels primarily because of the nice videography & projects you turn out mate plus the wicked sense of humour. Glad we didn’t see your legs at the swimming pool 😮😁😁😁👍👍👍
Precise work, good jigs (You make it look deceptively easy), and then actually well placed, non-cheesy jokes. Picked up a few ideas, had a few real laughs. I mean - good times :D
What an awesome and versatile bench! I think I'm going to make one to replace my current outfeed/assembly table. I'll do it using material and similar build materials as my Cosman workbench with a layered MDF top and Baltic birch base.
Absolutely beautiful! Nice work. I'm looking to build another workbench/outfeed/assembly table and would love to do a much simpler version of what you did. I'll check out your plans.
Simple but versatile. Great job. I'm designing a workbench specifically to use this style of workholding. Really glad to see that they work great for you.
Bought these plans and the under cabinet as well today. Now to just wait for my neighbors to go away so I can move their upright piano collection over here and do this in Mahogany!
I can’t express how much I appreciate how you have shown, while talking, the complete process of going from slabs to project. The music only wood working videos are virtually useless imo. Anyway, thx!
What a great build! And agreed that "blow out" can be a problem at multiple levels! :) And after I chew up my current bench, I'm building this bad boy! Have a Blessed Christmas!
Beautiful, Drew! Really fantastic work! 😃 I really love how the workbench turned out! Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊 Merry Christmas and happy new year!
That looks great 👍. Thanks for showing your bloopers. I just finished building a 5 drawer dresser first nicely finished project I've made in years. At some point I told my wife that y'all make it look so easy on UA-cam!🤣🤣🤣
Inspired by what I've learned from your site, I built myself an $800, custom work bench $200 - Wood & Hardware $200 - Replacement windshield $400 - Replacement 'soft touch' car radio. It seems that my car was almost long enough to hold the wood...
The bench turned out AWESOME!!!! If it were mine I'd just stand and admire it not wanting to mess it up! I'm sure your grandfather was smiling down on you making that screw into a flathead to solve a problem. Can't wait to see how you add storage to the base of the bench because that's a project I want to do soon. Merry Christmas to you and your family from AZ!!!
Hope you're staying warm back there in Michigan. I have family in Dewitt and Mount Pleasant and I can hear their teeth chattering from here in Oregon! Thanks for all of your inspiration. I love listening to your podcast with Mark and Bruce also. Merry Christmas.
Ooh, you should do a full-extension pull out drawer for the bottom area! That way you don't have to reach in under a hard surface and risk smacking your head.
Looks like a great piece and I am going to be making one soon. I would like an idea of how many board feet of wood you used just as a guess-itmation for finances. Thank you for everything you do for us novice woodworker wanna-bees.
very nice. i cant build something like that though........ all the stuff i do, Id mess that up in 2 weeks and would have to refinish it. very good build
At first mention of "a set of perfectly sized legs" (3:15) I was shocked that you missed that opportunity to make a joke about your legs... but you did not disappoint a second time (4:23). LOL!
I love the idea of using dog hole clamps to do the work of a vise. How do the side extensions stay in place though? Do they flop on their hinges if you are trying to saw or plane a peice clamped to them while in the down position?
That workbench turned out beautifully! It would make a really nice work surface for many different crafting needs or even a good kitchen island (without the holes of course). Would this project have unnecessary walnut or unnecessary maple? 🤔
Very nice and swanky... now I'm being asked by my significant other why I don't have a nice workbench like that sooooo..... I'm gonna need your address so I can borrow some lumber from your neighbor. Really though, that's a nice bench and it turned out really well and as always, the outtakes rock.
Nicely done! So is there something to hold the drop down end in place when clamping a workpiece in a vertical position or do you clamp it so it doesn’t move?
I just let it hang there. They're pretty heavy and it takes effort to move them. But you could easily add a window sash lock to secure them down if you wanted to
Great job, mighty fine looking bench and really functional. You didn't solve the doghole sawdust problem. Probably need a ply wood cover for your drawers..... Your neighbor would be better suited with a plywood sheathing river table!
@@FishersShop awesome, I’m in the market for a workbench and haven’t decided between a hardwood top and a MDF top covered in laminate. I wasn’t aware of the glue benefits danish oil provides. Something for me to consider
Great bench! Love the design! Also was interested, in which sharpening system are you using on the new bench there near the end of the video. Is that the WorkSharp 3000 by any chance?
My only criticism would be that those drawer roller slides are going to quickly clog up with the sawdust that those drawers were meant to catch. I think you'll probably revert to eliminating the slide hardware and just letting the drawers slide "wood-on-wood" soon enough.
@Fisher’s Shop: At 11:30 - how do you know that’s the correct height for the drawer slides? I always have trouble with this part of drawer slide layout. It’s never explained anywhere so I gotta be overthinking it.
Once the rails are on the drawer box, put the slides on the box over the rails and just set the whole thing in place and shim it up until it's at the proper height. Then make a mark on the front or back where the slides are. Take the box out, remove the slides, and then re-shim them up to your marks.
I need to get some Bessey clamps! My orange ones don’t make that popping noise. Nice unnecessary maple in your unnecessary walnut! Edit: Temporary fence = TRiaNgLe!
I appreciate the outtakes. Shows humility and that you are in fact human! :) Well done, sir!!
Glad you liked it, Thanks Ryan

Love your channel. Your humor and craftsmanship are first class. And love the "flathead" screw in everything. Puts a bit of history in each build.
That's right! Thanks, Paul

Thanks, Caroline! Yeah, I'm starting to get quite a collection. :)
Great build Drew!! Super Awesome workbench!! Love the walnut!! Definitely necessary!! 👍🙌
Thanks! 👍
I can’t really express how much I love and appreciate this video. You hit the ball out of the park with this workbench.
Thank You very much.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow! What a great looking and very functional work bench!
Thank you very much!
Looks really nice. Like the power outlet.
I LOVE the looks of those contrasting color plugs. Really makes it pop.
Right? I love it too
I couldn't agree more with your assessment of river tables! Wood looks plenty beautiful all by itself!

I love the idea of using dog hole clamps to do the work of a vise. How do the side extensions stay in place though? Do they flop on their hinges if you are trying to saw or plane a peice clamped to them while in the down position?
Yes, they hang loose but it's never been an issue thus far. If I needed to, a quick squeeze clamp would hold them down tight against the leg.
Really nice, concise demonstration of techniques and design!
Thank you very much!
Considering how you "acquire" your lumber, I'm surprised you aren't in cuffs when you "acquired" those Bessy clamps. 😁
That workbench turned out beautifully! It would make a really nice work surface for many different crafting needs or even a good kitchen island (without the holes of course).

If I had 10% of the skill associated w/making such a workbench then I'd try to adapt this to make a dining table.
Anybody else more envious of the clamp sponsorship than the bench?
Should line up the grain direction of your maple plugs to the walnut.
I did it that way to irritate you

Just a couple on the non-work stuff. Then I keep putting it on the main work surface until it stops drinking it.

That's beautiful. Without such a handy neighbor, I'd have to buy the wood to build one. If you have a price list, how much did this bench cost?
It's like $200-$250 if you make it out of construction grade lumber.
@@FishersShop Thank you. It's been a while since I bought lumber of any grade.
