For those curious, it is now understood how the kinetochore microtubules "pull" the sister chromatids: the kinetochores depolymerize the microtubules, which results in the breakdown of the microtubule into tubulin subunits. This effectively shrinks the microtubule, resulting in the chromatids moving towards the centrosome.

      Incredible! This should be pinned.
It's amazing how almost everything at that level operates by this sort of electromagnetic gravity from the molecular bonds. It blows my mind how many complex processes such a simple force can perform.

An easy why to remember the name of the stages is the acronym IPMAT, which stands for, "I Pull Me A Twin." And it actually makes sense... to a certain extent (Interphase, Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase and finally Telophase). Hopes this helps! Aleksi.

This guy is such a blessing and has a gift! I'm studying for my ATI nursing exam and I know of several nurses and read a lot of reviews from other nurses and nursing students to watch his videos. I don't know why my brain doesn't want to retain this stuff when I read it, but the way he explains everything and draws it out, my brain understands and retains the information. Thank you so much sir for making these amazing videos, I could just hug you.

These are the best biology videos I can find on UA-cam. I don't even look for videos by anyone else because yours are so clear and organized. I have a test on this today and I feel great about it thanks to these videos. I was very confused about the usage of "chromosome" at different phases (referring to single or double strands) and now I get it. I can't thank you enough.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THESE!! YOU ARE A LIFESAVER! I took my last exam, and for the first time I wasn't paranoid the whole time & knew the material! I've noticed in biology, you can memorize the terms, but if you just use flash cards, etc it's not the same as actually UNDERSTANDING the material and how everything works together. If you don't, tests will always get you with a technicality. Example: Centromere, centriole, centrosome. I learned all this material in 20 minutes! Thank you so much!!
