We used to think that a little bit of parchment paper and a cardstock shim was the easiest, most convenient, and affordable way to get great results when foiling. We were wrong.
We found that sure, you could use these things, but after a few uses, the results ended up inconsistent and not to the level of "wow" we were looking for. We've been testing a plethora of methods and products for foiling - carrier sheets, cardstock shims, parchment paper, etc. and what we've landed on is pretty incredible.

Taylored Expressions’ Foil Magic Shim is the perfect tool to elevate your toner foil crafting. Made of durable epoxy laminate, the shim transfers the heat of your foiling machine directly to your foil and cardstock. In addition to superior heat conduction, the shim will provide added pressure and ensure smooth and consistent foiling results.
[How do I use it?]
1. Put the shim into your carrier folder and place the toner-printed cardstock on top.
2. Cover with toner foil - shiny side up!
3. Close the carrier folder and feed it through your Minc or laminator as normal.
4. Say hello to a happier foiling experience!
Caution: Shim may be hot after several trips through your machine. We recommend using our Mini Mitts for sensitive fingers! While you set one aside to cool down, you can use the other to keep the foiling going.
