Jaydee has been dancing for two and a half years, mostly self-taught in tribal fusion, learning ATS with Kelley Beeston with no previous dance experience and is a member of Kalash tribal, a FatChanceBellydance sister studio. She is a student of Bharatanatyam (a foremost Classical Indian Dance style) under the private tutelage of Shakuntala from the dance lineage of guru Balashetra, of the Kalashetra branch/school.
It was her debut at Tribal est 13: Halfway to Halloween.
True to this years theme, she danced as the Hindu goddess Kali who is time and space itself. the skulls which adorn Kali represent the cutting way of ego's. Kali may be fierce and terrifying in representation, but with understanding it is seen that only the ego should have fear of her destructive powers, which hold the seed for renewel and true light, for light can only be seen from the darkness.
She looks forward to returning to Tribal Fest next year...as herself!!!

You move and flow in such a way that you appear to be otherworldly, through the way the stop poses are so precisely executed, then are offset by the fluidity of the transitioning from pose to pose. She kicked ass.... She took common belly/bolly fusion to a whole new level. The Indian dance is superb. Loved the body paint... Kali... Fierce.
So much actual substance and technique here. I'm loving the Bharatanatyam elements. Her arms and hands are so good - so many dancers could learn not to forget their hand placement, just from watching her. Also the headdress is gorgeous!
Wow I'm surprised so many people don't like this, I think it's amazing. Her form is so precise, her expression is a mix of fierce and playful throughout... just like Kali.
Usually what people Dont understand they Dont like..there was so much hard work put into this..and she used the music was used very well..to each his own I suppose Lol..

a rare gem! actually dances and has impeccable rhythm, artistry and form. rare. most in this dance form are posers and move around like queens than dancers. bravo goddess!
True. I'm so tired of "tribal fusion/bellydancers" that just move around waving their arms, doing hand circles. It's so basic.

@@ariamara3922 That's not how it works . From posture to clothing to mudras used , everything is symbolic . You remove the symbolism & it's not Kali. Just so you know , I don't mind it , artists have their creative freedom .

Mila Husnutdinova, the name of the song used for the Indian Fusion section is Bol Two by Solace, on his album Opium Head. If you like it I strongly recommend his two albums Dirty Ragas and Opium head in particular but you will probably appreciate all his work :) btw my name is Jaydee Amrita Copperfield and I am the performer. Shakti Glow - thank you! I study Bharatanatyam with private tuition from Shakuntala and workshops with my grand-guru Bala-Sundari when possible. (She was the guru of my regular teacher) Bala is Kalakshetra trained (the greatest Bharatanatyam dance school in India). I must make I clear that the moves you see in this video are not Bharatanatyam, nor Odissi per se, as many have said. Those which resemble certain steps are drastically altered in order to work with the music and costume. :) love!

Her getup is exactly like of Hindu Goddess Kali. It's mix of mostly Odishi, little bit Bharata Natyam and belly dance.

Ree Khalid, correct it's fusion of Bharatnatyam, Kathak & Belly dancing. But belly dancing is Egyptian though.

I've not seen this dance in that kind of costume before. I understand it's fusion. I love your blue skin exactly of Krishna, if that is what is meant. I love your red hair and costume. It's close to Halloween now. You did a great job combining two dances, choice of costume, and being a dancer of two years and getting up on stage like a professional. Wow, possibly the best tribal fusion dance I've ever seen, beautiful. Liked the first half better, mainly because of the music, but regardless, this was a fantastic dance with excellent execution.

Heatherrua21 thanks - I sewed on a large rectangular piece of heavy, stretchy material from an Egyptian Beladi dress, folded over itself a little, (not fully) attached only at the sides so it swoops in a semi circle at the back. This is onto a long loin cloth style skirt. :)
