This video saved me from throwing out my tape measure and buying a new one. I would’ve never figured out there was a spring within the roll and winding it back up would do the trick. Thanks!
Thanks! Your video was very helpful. My Komelon 30' was completely seized up and would not pull in the last 7 feet. After following your instructions, giving it a good cleaning and turning it about 20 or so times, it now works good as new. Thanks again!
My problem was the thumb button for allowing the tape to retract had come out of position and wouldn't allow the tape to stop and would always retract. I might have figured it out without the video but the video got me there with a nudge to finally take the thing apart. Works fine now and I know how to fix the tension on the tape per your issue if that ever happens. Thanks for putting out the video!
I love this tape measure, but after half a year the self-lock was failing, and the tape started sliding in slowly by itself. I almost bought a brand new one but this video helped me to realize a bit of alcohol cleaning on the stopping wedge made it good as new. Thanks!
Thank you. I accidentally pulled my measuring tape out too far and I had to take it apart and put back to together. This helped when all the insides went everywhere when I opened it.
Got my Komelon power blade only two weeks ago before it stop retracting because of dust and water. Thank you very much for the informative video to help me fix my tape measurement!
Zachary... Thank you. I likely would have taken mine apart and figured it out, but your instruction showed me that this seems to be a common issue with this tape measure. In my case it wasn't the loss of retraction, it was the slipping when it was supposed to stay in place. And as you said, it just needed cleaning, I used alcohol. I've raved about this tape to many people, it has three features that aren't found on ANY other tape measure... 1) the 'stay out' feature, 2) the super fortified end tab (three rivets), so the holes won't tear or go out of cal, 3) the extra end tab, one on top, one on the bottom side, and 4) the dual sided measuring scale, yellow on A, white on B. That last one alone is a 'why hasn't anyone done this before' aha moment. Mine is their 8 meter version, the only metric tape available anywhere. I absolutely LOVE this tape, I should buy a second one because... well you know. Thanks again. Doug in Maine.
Thankfully I found your video! I really loved my tape when I purchased it, but when the same happens I was so annoyed. I’ll try to fix it like you show us. Blessings and stay healthy. Hugs from Tampico, México 🇲🇽
With a Komelon 25' tape measure, there are three Phillips screws instead of four as on the 30' tape. The screw nearest the tape exit does not come out all the way and bends a little as well. This has prevented access to the interior and the spring. What would you say is the problem? The tape measure is stuck in the extended position and will not retract at all.
Sweet was gonna buy the 9 ft bottle opener craftsman but I think I'ma get this one but the 16ft one to start measuring some big plywood sheets to make a work table starting to teach myself woodworking projects little by little
Thank you for the explanation. Good to know. My problem only after a short while is the tape does not lock well when pulled out. Just the slightest pressure pushes the tape back in...very frustrating. Could it be that white brake piece at end of the release button mechanism is dirty and the tape is sliding over the brake? I hope a simple cleaning will be the fix for that. Sure hope that won't be a regular task. I wonder if the way the name is pronounced is..Ko-mee-lon...Potato..Po-tah-toh
Had the same problem. Pull the brake mechanism out and bend the spring back so that it puts more tension on the tape when it’s pulled out. I did this and mine is working better.
thank you for this! 3 years later you're still helping people like me.

Love Mexico. I've been in the Cancun area and enjoyed seeing the maya ruins!
its 12 20 and my whole family is asleep didnt wanna break the tape bless your soul
Thanks putting it back together was frustrating until your video
Good video! I needed to put a standard tape into a metric unit, your video helped with my same exact issue!
That is great. Did you know America is one of only a few that use the standard?

Thanks for this! I was able to save a tape that my son accidently pulled out too far!
Saving that money! lol
Thanks man! I could save about 20 bucks by watching your vid
No problem 👍

I not only cleaned, but gave a light sanding with 100 grit paper on the white, wedge shape point. Seemed to help with the creeping back problem.
Thank you. Found one discarded today in this state of disrepair.
Thank you! Babysitting and my brother pulled it out too far. You saved us! Lol
Oh no. Glad you could fix it!!
Thanks. This is very helpful. I just fixed mine.
And mine works again. Thank you!!
Thanks for this Video Zach! Was able to reassemble in a few minutes! Thanks for the time you saved me!
No worries. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel!
My issue is the opposite. My auto lock stopped working after a few months. Anyone know how to fix that issue?
Bend the metal spring out some that holds pressure on the thumb break. Make sure and clean the hard rubber brake pad before putting back together.
Nice thanks for the info
Ill keep close attention on my komelon

It could be the brake. I ended up getting a new Stanley tape measure that Lowe's had on sale. 2 for 1
Had the same problem. Pull the brake mechanism out and bend the spring back so that it puts more tension on the tape when it’s pulled out. I did this and mine is working better.
Thanks so much ! Helped me fix mine in a jiffy 🥰
