- Making DIY fender flares / wide metal arches on my MK1 Caddy Pickup VR6 Turbo build
In this week's episode, I start to widen and flare my arches to fit my wheels.
This is the same technique you could use on a mk1 caddy pickup / rabbit pickup or mk1 golf

Just done the front arches different which came out a lot better! Check out the video here: ua-cam.com/video/sr4fK200Dro/v-deo.html
@@jasonmacneil2256 more than one way to do a thing buddy! I'm by no means an expert but both sides are identical and a great fit so not sure what the problem is?
@@jasonmacneil2256 not really sure there's any problems as i got a great result 🤷♂️
@@jasonmacneil2256 yes they are! While the first one was free hand to get the look i wanted, i measured and templated the second from the first. The video may not show it but there was a lot of measuring going on.
For doing this the first time, you did an awesome job
Cheers Dave! Pretty pumped for getting some primer and filler on them. Got the front ones to do still as well 😬
@@GrindPalace i'm sure the result would be very nice
You have , very skillfully & accurately, simplified a difficult job. Thanks
kind words cheers! im no expert but gotta try your best.
Wow awesome job! You made it look so simple. You're inspiring me to tackle something similar on my V8 suzuki hatchback build. I'm going to have to clear some beefier tires to handle that kind of power.
Cracking effort there dude! Exactly what I'm wanting to do with mine, you made it look easy!
Cheers bud! Fully expected it to be a real mess but came out great, just finished the other side and was even better. That's for the support 👍
Wow nice work!! Makes me want to get in the garage and get to work😎 Can’t wait to see where you go with the caddy!
You and me both! Thanks bro
You made a damn fine job of that chap , impressive I like your style 👌👍
Straightforward job and well executed / Keep it simple ! Always works .
Thanks 👍
Top video will help no end on my fabia/Audi TT project 👍🏻
Props to you for being able to work in such a small space, I can't do that anymore!
It's a good challenge! Worst bit is staying on top of the mess. Merry xmas 🍻
thank you for this!!! i was wondering if this was possible in my head but i hadn't seen it done. Thanks mate!!!
Thanks man! I just done the fronts which came out better: ua-cam.com/video/sr4fK200Dro/v-deo.html
I’ve been trying to figure out how I’m going to use my scrap sheet of steel to do my overfenders, and your way seems to be the easiest! Thanks for the post!
Cheers bro! It's a bit ghetto but works well if you do same measurements both sides!
The level of creativity blows my mind.
Cheers buddy 🙌👊
You did a great work man! Congratulations
Cheers man, means a lot 👊
Wow that actually looks really good.
Thanks buddy 👍
Now thats what Im talking about... Nice vid and details.... Keep it up...
Cheers buddy ❤️

Fair play, nice job
Excellent work
Thanks 👍
Great job 👏 looks amazing
Cheers buddy!
Great job there dude 👌
Cheers buddy!
Brilliant job mate and exactly the way I’ve got all my grinders set up slitting disc no guards 😂
Man I've seen so many grinder accidents with no guards but wouldn't have it any other way 😆
@@GrindPalace Well I weld and fab for a living and now dipping into the pipe scene. My buddy took a slits into his nose recently from shrapnel from a cut off wheel. I gave him shit for about 2 weeks for not wearing a face shield lol.
@@mandoky1647 haha I'd expect nothing less 😂
Looking great there mate rather take your time and get it perfect... Otherwise loving it👍👍👍🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
Thanks for the love mate ❤️
Amazing work👍👍👍
Cheers buddy
Very good man
Cheers bro
good job mate, im looking for the best way to get my audi a6 looking factory and wide, i need to widen it by 65mm each side, but im thinking to tack the first plate top centre then cut the bottoms either side and tack same width so i have no tyre showing. where abouts in uk you from
Es algo que ahorraría mucho tiempo en hacer unos independientes
freakin well done mate
Cheers bud! Going to be having a crack at the front arches soon
Nice work.
Cheers buddy
Subscribed mate. Great work!
Your accent suggests you’re based not too far from me. 🙂
Chippenham!
Tight enough work space? Haha awesome job buddy keep up the great content 👍👏
Yeah man! Just doing the best with what I got 👊🏼
I look forward to watching more videos on the caddy, I have 2 that I'm working on, one is on a 4x4 Toyota frame lifted and the other is gonna be similar to the one in this video but my own taste
Got any links to piccys?
Awesome job beliebe or not I check many videos no body had your Idea am honest I was going to do it this way cut and open no worries I fallow your steps good job ..am doing this in a 96 chevy suburban I have 22 inch wheels on it is toching the edge now thanks.
Hey man thanks for the kind words! 22s are big wheels. All I can say is take your time and make sure you make note of reference points so it's easy to mirror on the other side 👍
@@GrindPalace thanks buddy good point I will :)
That’s some real shit! Love it man!
Cheers bro!
Nice one pal
Cheers bud ❤️
Wow!!! Really really great work brother!! Thanks for the share!! L+S!!
Cheers bro

I effing love the pointing finger! Hahahahaha

I am looking to do the same thing on my vehicle. I am not great at welding and was planning on going with Flux Core vs. gas, did you use flux core wire with your welds?
Hi bud, I used gas. To be honest with the thinner metal on bodywork I don't think you will have a choice.
Que buena idea
¡Gracias hermano!
How long did it take you to do one arch im doing the same to my k11 micra but i was thinking of just buying arches but welding on your on seems to look soo much cleaner looking
It took me 3 lunch breaks with the filming. I haven't done the filler and bodywork bit yet though, will prob be a similar sort of time too 👊
New Sub
Hi what did you paint on metal after grinding it down ?
It's a weld through primer. Basically a zinc primer. Stops rust because it has so much zinc in.
What a perfect video, hats off to you for showing this.. if you fancy similar mate I want my rear arches extended on a 911, if you want to do same thing on mine contact me ASAP and I'll we can work a price out.. Great skills 👌
Cheers for the love man! I'd love to help you out but barely have time for my own at the moment. Dad life!
I can honestly recomend trying it yourself, welders and grinders aren't expensive. Just about taking your time 👊🏼

You should really invest in safety glasses, and maybe some welding gloves.. Otherwise looks really cool.
Yeah safety squints are NOT cool protect your eyes always
Ça a l'air tout simple à faire je suis sûr que je n'y arriverais pas c'est génial ce qu'il a fait mais pourquoi toujour des volkwagen
You could do it only anything, I just happen to love this Volkswagen!
Can anyone help me with some tips or point me in the right direction?
I drive a 1998 gen 6 civic hatch, i was thinking about widebody, but i got no experience working on body panels, besides, i think widebody is too agressive for my taste. I just wanna flare them a little bit to make them more pronounced, if that makes sense; without cracking, cutting, welding anything. Ive seen some videos on fender rolling, but that just pushes the lip in to make room for wider wheels. Does anyone have any ideas? Is that even possible? Or are there any slightly wider aftermarket fenders available to buy?
To be honest there isn't any quick wins with what you want to achieve! You either gotta get stuck in and have a go or take it to a body shop and get your wallet out.
I have no experience with body panels, I just watch videos and have a go. If I mess it up I start again. All gotta start somewhere.
@@GrindPalace yea, spent a few hours on google and found a buncha discussions on "fender pulling", which should have the effect im after.
and i think im gonna do just that, rent me one of those rollers and have a crack at it lol. i managed to change the clutch by myself, this shouldnt be *that* hard.
do you the same job of front?
Yes I will do when I get there :)
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Any new videos coming ?
Just taken a few months off to build a garage which meant the caddy had to be put in storage while it happened. It's almost finished and I'll be back filming soon 👍
Waste of time fixing old junky pickup...nott good!....hehehe..
This junky pickup is a a dream to me, something I've wanted to build for over 15 years!
