- Hi, This is my 1934 build Gibson L-4 16" archtop ... for sale!
I bought this guitar from Archtop.com in 2011 in order to learn jazz classics and western swing - and - I failed - too set in my ways perhaps.
Mass music in Kansas recently had a virtually identical guitar called an L-7 (1935) which sold very quickly.
When I got it, I had not been advised of the fact that there were virtually no frets left, which I remedied very quickly, and that there was a "painted out scratch of e fron upper left bout, and a small impact dent on the back with cracks abut 1.5" either side but there is no movement and no work necessary. Finish checking is minimal and the neck angle and set up is .. as good as it gets.
I'm looking for indications of interest on this guitar currently based in the UK.
A beautiful artfully made, and impeccably cared for instrument. Thank you for sharing it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Probably the nicest sounding archtop I've heard, and I love archtops. It also looks very Nice.
It is a very foine instrument ! Thanks, Andy
Beautiful looking guitar and beautiful sounding too.
Thanks Graeme.
Wonderful sounding instrument, and I think you are underrating your playing.
You are very kind Rudolph, but I know my limitations. Thanks for watching.
Lovely L4 and very informative video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Wonderful sounding guitar, very powerful. Best of luck on the selling. George in Montana
Hi George, thank you.
What a beauty ! Were I closer............
Guitars can be shipped you know!
@@SillyMoustache Agreed but I have had bad luck, more than I care.
Perhaps I should fly over : )
Wow, what beautiful harmonics it gave, + a Very interesting string choice- 13's, just ole Don here from Hamilton NZ on my Wife's tablet (Susan )😊😊😊
Hi Don, great to hear from NZ, always wanted to visit! Say thanks to Susan for enabling us to communicate!
what a stunner .. .
It is - deserves a better player than me.
Ah, yes. It's hard to part with such a friend. Luckily, I have no idea where I would play such a beauty. I have a couple of little played guitars, but are used when grandchildren visit. Thanks, Andy
Hi Tex, Frankly we never really bonded. My failing. and I bought another Collings (002h) recently and I do have a an Eastman Archtop as well.
Sorry to hear of the tempest in your teacup, I have the same problem. Good luck, it should fetch a pretty penny!
I am looking for offers but also trying to get a valuation.
Oh how sad you are parting with it. Looks so beautiful 😍
It really is! ... and I'm not!
An absolutely beautiful guitar , you will probably be sorry after you’ve parted with it .
🎸🎶🎸……Victor.
Possibly, but I never became good enough to be worthy of it.
Beautiful instrument !! Sure seems sad to let it go, but if it's sitting in its case and not getting played or seen, at some point it s time to make room for other things, or even just time to simplify life.
I'm sure you'll find a worthy home for it.
I hope so, Thanks.
Please don't sell this guitar. You will deeply regret it. I'm 78 and have owned literally 100s of guitars, some of which I deeply miss.
Thank you for the kind thought. I am old and don't get to play so much now and never did it credit. We'll see.
@@SillyMoustache I'm 78. I think we both came from the same batch. At my age all I care about is contentment, a modicum of happiness and surrounding myself with beautiful things that I love. Not necessarily expensive things but nice things. As we say in california, you are one cool dude. Smiles...
Pretty sweet…
thanks.
Howdy howdy. How are you doing? Hope you're well. Have you sorted out the UA-cam ad blocker issue yet? Thanks for sharing your stories and experience. Hope your guitar finds a good home and you can sell it for a good price.
Not yet YT issues, I have removed the adblocker but they didn't stop blocking me. I changed the browse, and found ways to view, but limiting my viewing of YT now. considering moving my thread to another website.
@@SillyMoustache That's frustrating. Are you on the UA-cam partner program? Have your tied contacting them for support?
@@SillyMoustache I sent an email but not sure if you got it. Have you tried logging out of UA-cam after uninstalling the ad block, then signing in again on your web browser? I've read that works for some people with the same problem you described.
Hi Andy, do you know if the tone bars are kerfed or solid? As far as I know they were usually kerfed with slits, but they can be solid carved. This is a very uncommon guitar though!
The F holes are very thin, but I'll try to find out.
Shame you have to sell it. That would be perfect for a bit of Eddie Lang or Dick McDonough.
If only I could play like that!
I’ve attempted several of those in my plectrum playing days, I had a Gibson FDH from around 1938. I play purely with fingers now though I’ve done my own arrangement of Danzon, one of the Kress/McDonough duets. Maybe you should keep it and try some of that stuff?
Nice guitar. Price? Will you ship to US, purchaser pays of course? if so, then I'll ask around...
I guess that could be done. Price is the big question. An almost identical "L7" (in a lesser condition) was on sale at Mass Music in Kansas for about $7k. It sold quickly and I don't know how much for. I'm considering offers.
Yes it has to go… a normal guitar like a D18 looks so much better.
Huh? I have my three dreads, so not really the point.
Hi, Is this guitar still available?
Yes it is.
#toogoodtojunkpile
I should think so!
== How many guitars do you have? ===
Kenneth, it is a question that I try to avoid, but if you stroll though my videos and/or search for My Guitars" you'll probably see them all. Thanks for watching.
How can a guitar be in that condition if it plays well. Looks like it’s been locked away all it’s life.
Well, it does have a few dings and dents and some finish checking, but I doubt it was ever played much.
You should not sell it, just lern real gypsy swing rhythm(the 2 and4 have to be louder and shorter!!) And learn to play with the reststroke technique for melodies and you will be happy.😊
Yes, I understand that but I am older than dirt and I have my styles kinda fixed.
I think the real reason you're selling it because it's a 14 fretter instead of 12 😆
No, not at all. I have all the flat tops I want/need, but it is about a good expensive instrument that I never learnt to play well enough (In have two other archtops).
