- The opening to the 70s anime series Uchuu Senkan Yamato (Star Blazers). It is the opening of the subbed version. This anime was said to have started the golden age of anime(basically it was what got people into watching it). Uchuu Senkan Yamato is a really great anime, and I suggest you watch it.

I love how 2199 stays as true to the original Opening as possible while throwing in a few new things.
I wish matsumoto sensei actually kept his art style for the girl characters.
If anything, it’s actually better
too bad the cg looks awful
@@marshymarcelo Compared to other CGI moments in anime, 2199 is downright gorgeous.
@@hudsonball4702 I'm talking about the opening, the cg looks really out of place, like they were rotating the model in the viewport or something, looks cheap for something that used to give an overwhelming feel.
The soundtrack to this anime is simply sensational. Few anime soundtracks have since reached its feet.
I came here because I had a flashback of the soundtrack, that I have not heard since my childhood. That is 40 years ago.
Initial D is the only thing that’s in the same league
@@tharunbala7783 Initial D is mid at best. Only reason everyone knows about it is due to memes.
RIP Leiji Matsumoto (1938-2023)
RIP Leiji Matsumoto. You are one of the all-time greats.
I couldn't agree more. :)
no yoshinobu nishizaki is the true creator leiji matsumoto just co created thank him for space pirate captain harlock thank yoshinobu nishizaki for space battleship yamato although leiji matsumoto bought the rights to space battleship yamato but still thank yoshinobu nishizaki as well
@yumisuremaki2748 indeed i will.
My dad was such a history nerd growing up that, even though the US version had all references to the Yamato's name being altered, he figured out as a middle schooler that the show was really about rebuilding the Yamato and not that random Argo crap. So when he was telling me about this a few years ago before I was into anime and he couldn't remember the name he just said "It was a Japanimation where they rebuilt the Yamoto to go to space but they didn't tell the Americans that".
Awww how sweet! My freind said that it said Yukikaze on Kodai,s brother's ship, and the dub didn't fix it hehe.
And my freind is a history nerd too. He loves this show and showed it to me now I love it too!
Your dad sounds based.
There's reason why Voyager Entertainment (was it actually owned by Nishizaki as part of Office Academy or Westcape?) renamed the space Yamato with the name 'Argo'. Because There were still WW2 veterans particulalry those of Pacific Theatre still alive and many was as well having grandchildren. These Veteran generations are very patriotic and usually still held grudges to peoples of 'their enemy nations of their youth' until much later in his life.
War is .. as Robert E. Lee cited, 'Hell'. but for many who couldn't cope with post greatwar wrold which changed upside down, these wars were 'Arcadia of My Youth' (わが青春のアルカディア)
Keeping Japanese names on these ships in American dub is considered 'Unpatriotic'. for large corporate like Hasbro (which owns Claster TV that aired Star Blazers), this is not what Execs like to have a protesting mail delivered all the way from Republican States to their HQ in New York City (I think).
To this end. not only Space Yamato renamed to Argo. but also Alex Wildstar's ship. the Yukikaze is renamed initially to a numbered 'Ship' (Later revealed to be 'Destroyer'. I think by definitions of 1915-1940 which means a very lightweight cruiser that's slightly bigger than gunboat, not a serious warship that has a size of Medium and Heavy Cruiser like Burke or Zumwalt, ship that replaced BB and Cruisers), later in EP6 it is named 'Paladin' as well. Unfortunately Voyager Entertainment cannot re-film scenes with Yukikaze with a cel sheet of the same ship but with 'Paladin' markings.

Translations is considerably shorther than it should.
I admit it
R.I.P. Leiji Matsumoto. May you forever be gently cradled by the infinite universe.
Galaxy Express 999 traveled to the Eternal Galaxy in the Ultimate Supercluster
Farewell Leiji Matsumoto, we will reach you someday in Iscandar!
R.I.P
The golden age of anime really started with Yamato. It was a watershed. Japanese interest in anime started with Yamato. Even today, this anime is very revered in Japan.
gonna have to say you're a bit off, I would say Mazinger Z and other Dynamic works is where it started or at least planted a seed that still persists to this day where giant mechanical guardians still fight to this day
the one, the only, the classic
Thanks for the magic, Mr. Matsumoto. You'll be forever remember
Holy hell that slow, somber slow opening at the beginning gave me goosebumps.
The "360 day left" is a true classic.
RIP to a legend.
Up until I actually watched the series, I thought the idea of putting a navy ship into space was absurd. Oh boy, was I wrong; I remember wanting to just keep on watching the next episode, and the next, and the next.
If you think this is absurd but not gundam, you are absurd :|
@@justnoob8141 pretty much every sci-fi is like that, its all about the suspension of disbelief. to some people somethings are harder to take seriously than others. its ok to think something absurd is less realistic than another thing equaly absurd. it is fiction.
his point was, even with that, he still loved the experience enough to keep wanting more.
You should watch that other series when they put a steam train into space.
@@NTZephyrean Oh, I watched that as well. Amazing how powerful the railroad company was; able to destroy whole planets if it wanted to.
@@infinitecanadian You watched voltron? It's sci fi in some areas, 15 cars or around 7 lions
I like both, this and the 2199 version.
+Alexander Heath I got to see the 2199 version recently. If any show, live action or animated deserved a reboot more than any other in the known universe, THIS was well-deserved!
For a majority of animation fans, it is this epic saga (1974-83) that began the golden age of animé. What followed were Galaxy Express 999 (1979-81), everything Gundam from the original series (1979) to Char's Counterattack (1988), the original Macross (1982-87), Vampire Hunter D (1985) and Dirty Pair (1985), and many other classics. To most people, the golden age ended with 'Akira' (1988), which erased all doubts about the power of animé.
nah the golden age ended with evangelion

The soundtrack of this anime is sensational. In my opinion, the best ever made for an anime.
FUN FACT: The man who sings this opening, Isao Sasaki, also does the voice of the narrator in the 2010 live-action film! He also played Hajime Saito in Yamato 2 and Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato, as well as Daisuke Shima in Final Yamato.

...seriously, I'd somehow never heard the original version before now. (The English version of this was remarkably faithful.)
rest in peace, Leiji Matsumoto
R. I. P. Leiji Matsumoto 😭
I hope this song played for Matsumoto sensei in Heaven
This opening cannot be beat. Modern directors just don't seem to get what makes something great and they try to 'upgrade' completely unnecessary things. Simple and good is plenty, because sometimes the worst enemy of good is "better".
Badass. I will always stan.
This is fantastic!! I had only seen the original growing up, watching it as the US-dubbed Star Blazers, so to see this original Japanese intro is a special treat! I like how some of the scenes involving the ship were later CGI for the 2199 reboot, namely the first half!

masterpiece
Este opening provoca cantarlo a todo pulmón, es genial
"Como si fuera un himno..no?
It's not lost on us westerners, the significance of raising a ship that was originally sunk because it was sent on a suicide, desperate last-ditch mission from the seabed, so it can be sent on a similar mission.... Across the galaxy.
esta series era una de mis favotitas en los años 70s lo veia todos los domingos por la mañana.

My old favorite anime
I watched this when I was little and still love it.
My father he likes this masterpiece in the 70's when he was a kid.
I cried with emotion
It'd be funny if you cried without emotion. What a dumb-ass 🤣
This intro song is created as per specifications by Leiji Matsumoto. particularly with him being acquainted to big name symphonies. The original intro intended to have more 'dramatic' feels while the march version is quite an 'upbeat' feel.
I like how in both this and the new version,* they both start with the sound of the ship crackling to life, no instruments and vocal lead. The lack of instruments and the slow, somber tone ACTUALLY portray the emotion of near extinction. Real art.
*after episode 6 or 7 in the new version they ruined it by putting instruments in the whole thing.
New version: ua-cam.com/video/51PjegTadWU/v-deo.html
Actually the started putting instruments in the whole thing in the new version because the old version also started doing it after a few episodes...
@@sixtealbisetti2480 never thought of it like that, ty for saying something.
@@theenigma6160 This version of the opening doesn’t actually appear until the last few episodes in the original series. And the last episode doesn’t have the opening or ending theme. It’s really neat watching through and seeing how the opening evolved during production.
I think there are 4 versions of the theme song in the original series:
1. Has the same sound effects at the beginning, but has the song playing through it. This version was in the first 7 episodes.
2. Same version of the song, with some of the sound effects, but has a brief music sting at the beginning before the theme starts. This version was only in about 4-5 episodes.
3. Same version of the theme, but no sound effects or any added music or alterations. This is the version that is available on the original BGM soundtrack album. This was the most used version.
4. The version that appears in this video. It only appears towards the end of the series and is only in about 4-5 episodes.
There was also a one off opening that is only in the Rainbow Starcluster episode. It’s the track known as “Assembling the Carrier Fleet.” It was a piece that was used frequently in the soundtrack that they decided to use instead of the normal theme, because the episode was longer than normal. They didn’t have time for the theme song and a recap, so they just did a recap with this track playing underneath. A similar thing was done with the last episode though a different track was used. I think it was the Crossing the Beautiful Ocean/Iscandar theme, but I don’t remember exactly.
Some of the lighting has been changed in different versions for continuity, if I’m not mistaken.
Sorry this comment is so long, I’m a nerd when it comes to this series. I hope you found this interesting.

The original was seen in America, after Gigantor, Astroboy, Speed Racer, Kimba the White Lion, Marine-boy, Wonder Three, and Ultraman were popular. A live-action version was done in 2010, but it fell far short, and amounted to a kitsch-camp spin.
