I made a short EnChroma parody video of a Saturday Night Live sketch, but it was flagged as a copyright violation when I uploaded it here. Fair use is never worth arguing on youtube, so I just uploaded it to Reddit. You can watch it here: chromaphobe.com/enchroma-unboxing-parody/
I remember the first time my colorblindness actually affected my life in a way I recognized was when I was working in a kitchen in high school. A few days to a week beforehand I had learned that I was deuteranomalous in driver's ed. Customers were just starting to come in for the early part of dinner service and my boss called out to me to get him a ramekin of Green Goddess dressing. I'm still fairly new at the time, so I ask him which one the Green Goddess is. He said "the green one" and I look back down. There are two similarly colored dressings stored right next to each other: Green Goddess (pale green) and Creamy Dressing (pale pink). I cannot for the life of me tell which is which. I look back up and ask the chef "Which one's the green one?". He rolls his eyes and comes to do it himself.
I don't even know why I'm watching this one as I never even ate meat once in my life. But I guess it's still interesting and reusable on plant-based options.
Haha, didn't take the vegan warning to heart, hey? I actually had a section on plant based meats but cut it because I couldn't make it flow with the rest. I put it into the show notes on my website instead.
Great video and perfect timing. Is there a thermometer you recommend. I know different thermometers have different read times and tolerances and was wondering if that makes a big difference between the cheaper Amazon ones vs a Thermopop.
Like with most tools, I find if you are buying your first one, you should keep it on the cheaper side. I think a quick-reading thermometer is mostly unnecessary for cooking for yourself. Accuracy is also mostly noncritical for the digital thermometers since there is WAY more error in getting it positioned exactly in the coolest part of the meat. The only thing that can help you with that is practice. That said, I also have a principle to never buy the cheapest tool available, since they are competing on price more than anything (economics of discount goods) and are willing to make lots of shortcuts to save a few cents. That's just general advice though.
Holy crap, you said "US Customary Units" and not "Imperial" bless you so much for that. It's one of my biggest pet peeves when people get those mixed up. ❤ Sidenote: to anyone who bakes, weigh your ingredients instead of using volume. It's better in every way. Also, using metric when weighing.
Hey Man, I’ve got the weirdest tho g happening. I’m not sure if it’s from my colorblindness or if it something else, but say I’m out in a grassy area or anywhere with a lot of green. When I go back inside or anywhere without green my vision has this yellow/brown tint to it
So, what you describe *sounds* like an afterimage. Get exposed to one color for a long time and when you look away, you see the opposite of that color. Except in your case, yellow brown is not the opposite (complement) of green. Expose yourself to a lot of green and you'd expect to see a *purple* afterimage, not brown. I talk about it some more here: chromaphobe.com/words/a/afterimage/
Replace your family with a thermometer! Not only is it better at telling you when your meat is cooked, but it doesn't argue with you or steal all the hot water either!

Honestly there were periods during this video where I forgot that I was on a channel about colorblindness, this is good stuff to know for anyone!
Wow, you really manage to pick good topics… I got to say. Every video so far, spot on
I'll have to make the next one boring then! How about "checking for blood in your stool"?

Incredible! Best ever. Thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it!

At least when it comes to temp, there is no difference between the two, right?

Suddenly I feel very hungry....
Was it the bog people or the paleo feces? 😅
@@Chromaphobe lol! The paleo feces part did make me laugh out loud, which is hard to do when I'm watching videos by myself. Nice one!!
I always have to get my family to tell me when chicken is cooked

@@Chromaphobe for most stuff I do use a thermometer but usually when I have chicken it's chopped up small in a stir fry
What about IR gun to fix the ground beef problem, lol
Hmm, maybe you've got something patentable there 😏
